I lost it when you mentioned how this song was the kind of song used in a movie in a fun beach scene because probably the most famous usage of this song basically plays off that expectation and instead subverts it by having it play during a kidnapping scene from Silence of the Lambs.
Tom Petty passed away in 2017, but left a huge legacy in music. You can't go wrong with any of his songs. Also check out the Traveling Wilburys, a super group that includes Tom, George Harrison (Beatles), Bob Dylan, Jeff Lynne (ELO) and Roy Orbison.
Eponymous is Latin. I believe the translation is "of one's self." So, like a self-portrait or an autobiography. So when a band releases a self-titled album, it's known as an eponymous album.
Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers were a great American rock band formed in 1976. They had a lot of great hits such as "Refugee", "Runnin' Down A Dream", "The Waiting", "Learning To Fly", "Mary Jane's Last Dance", "Don't Do Me Like That", "You Got Lucky", "Change Of Heart", "I Need To Know", "Listen To Her Heart" etc. In 1989 Petty went solo & had quite a few hits such as "I Won't Back Down", "A Face In The Crowd", "Yer So Bad" etc. He was also part of the supergroup "Travelling Willburys" in 1988.
After the OKC bombing Tom came in with a couple of concerts. I went to the last one he gave ..... The price of the tickets were 50 bucks for floor up front. Can't get them that cheap nowadays.... He donated the proceeds... Best concert I've ever been to.....thanks for this one..... RIP Tom
This is the song you sing, just before you get kidnapped by Buffalo Bill and end up in the hole. "It places the lotion on its' skin, or it gets the hose again".
@@kierstenridgway4634 I loved how she picked up on the general vibe about a girl living her best live, but did not know how left things went with the Silence of the Lambs movie.
The song was featured in movies. The two I'm aware of are "Fast Times at Ridgemont High", very fitting. And the other is "Silence of the Lambs", very creepy. But Petty did a brilliant job of making music that fit life. A life soundtrack if you will. Great reaction!
Tom Petty was such an amazing artist; I was stunned by his passing. Far too soon. Tom, you are loved and missed by so many of us. Thank you for all the great songs, we'll be playing them until there's no one left down here to play them. :)
I only got to see Tom live once. It was at William & Mary College in Williiamsburg Va. It was the tour for their Damn The Torpedos album. It was one of the best sounding concerts i've ever been to. The volume was perfect & you could hear everything clearly. The value of a good sound engineer. R. I. P. Tom
It WAS in a movie and the girl was singing it loudly in the car... and then she was kidnapped at some point and you'll have to watch the rest to find out what happened to her. "Silence of the Lambs" - hard not to think of that movie when you hear this song if you've seen it!
VH1 used to have a show called "Pop Up Video" and you would love it. It played the music videos and little pop up bubbles would come on the screen giving fun facts about the song, artist, or video.
LOL, as part of a movie soundtrack, this song is best known for being the character intro for Catherine Martin, the girl held in the pit by the serial killer in _Silence of the Lambs._ It was used perfectly, and in less than 20 seconds established just who she was. A great song used by a great director in a great film. :)
Tom's music really is timeless. it's just great rock n roll. When you listen to it, it doesn't sound 70s 80s 90s.... it just sound great. I think any of his hits could be a hit today.
Mtv used to do pop up videos that had fun facts pop up over the normal music videos. Tom Petty has one of those unique voices. Eponymous means "self-titled". Like and Elvis album titled "Elvis"
They are a really tight band! One of the best live bands I've seen. And I've been to over 200 concerts and roughly around 100 artists! No exaggerations!!
Out on 441 , like waves crashing on the beach . Yeah those days in Florida in 99 -2003 . Good times !!! Was there till 2019 but those early days , oh man . Party on those were 🤘
You would love Pop Up videos. Text bubbles full of trivia would "pop up" throughout the music video. I can still hear the intro, Pop, pop, Pop Up Video!
You can never go wrong with Tom Petty. I saw Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers 3 times and kick myself in the ass everyday for not seeing them more. RIP Tom
Huge Tom Petty fan! This is one of his best! It was in a movie but not one like you imagined. Silence of the Lambs. Victim was singing along to this song before she was kidnapped!
My All Time Favorite Band. Got to see them in 2017 on the tour commemorating 40 years. 11 days before Tom Petty passed away. He is a great American song writer as well and rock and roll artist. Please react to his song called Angel Dream. A stunning song he wrote towards the end of his life.
I saw them at Bonnaroo festival in 2006 on the 30th anniversary of being a band. Stevie Nicks came out and sang Stop Dragging My Heart Aroung with them. It was fricken awesome. TP and the Heartbreakers made it 41 years before Tom passed in 2017.
I've only recently become a Tom Petty convert. Through his songs and interviews, he seemed so genuine and, in my opinion, a real treasure. Please continue the TP journey. I suggest "Breakdown", "Mary Jane's Last Dance", "Learning to Fly", "You Don't Know How It Feels", and "Crawling Back To You".
This song is in a movie, well probably lots of movies, but the one that will forever stick out is not a movie you would expect. This is the song playing in "Silence of the Lambs" when a serial killer abducts a victim. VH1 used to have pop up video with fun facts. Eponymous (Eh-pon-nuh-muss) is a smarty pants way of saying self titled, their first album was called Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.
Petty is just great feel good music. Saw him twice and both times were amazing performances. No fancy light show, no pyrotechnics, no smoke machines or laser shows. Just a spotlight, a band and their music. So much class!
It was in a movie, the girl Buffalo Bill kidnapped in Silence of the Lambs was blasting this and singing along on her way home from work before she got abducted
They are one of the tightest bands in history. In general, the album version will sound different than the live because it's difficult to reproduce all the sounds and effects used in the studio. But not with them, they use a more minimalist recording process that is nearly perfectly reproduced live.
Tom was also part of a supergroup called the "Traveling Wilburys - Handle With Care (Official Video)" Sadly we lost Tom Petty to an accidental drug overdose in 2017...RIP: Tom 💔🔥🎸U R Missed Lovely reaction, thanx 4 sharing and have a great day
I got in so much trouble calling in to The Box. Even after getting busted calling in, my sisters and I would have it on for hours just to catch our favorites. Whoa, you totally brought back some happy memories!
HERE COMES MY GIRL is another one of their early hits. Sadly, Tom passed away unexpectedly at home in October 2017. Some of my favorites are some lesser-knowns, and include YOU WRECK ME, YOU DON'T KNOW HOW IT FEELS, and SWINGIN' - and I recommend the official music videos, because he was a master at making those, too.
HI BRITT!!! 😊 SO THIS SONG AND ( BREAKDOWN ) WERE TOM'S 1ST 2 BIG HITS 😊 R.I.P. ☹ TO TOM, WE LOST HIM WAYYYYYY TOO EARLY, THANK GODDDD HE WENT PEACEFULLY!
Tom and the boys have quite a bit of a catalog. I like the hidden gems. I'll name a few. The dark of the sun Kings highway Yer so bad Cabin down below Flirtin with time, (I sang this for my grandma before she passed and at her service.) High in the mornin Gainesville Turn this car around I could keep going but that would take a while.
RIP to Tom Petty!!!! Yes, you will find his music in Movies. One of my favorites is "Fast Times at Ridgemont High". Not gonna find a bad song from this group or when Tom went on his own.
When Petty first came out I thought he was just a Bob Dylan immitator but after all his great writing and hits there was no denying that he was the real deal. His own man.
Tom has always been the epitome of cool to me. He looked and sounded kinda weird but he embraced it so strongly that nobody ever even mentions it. His charisma made it all work
Movie song you say???? Well, it plays a very prominent role in the movie “The Silence of the Lambs” while a key character is driving her car and singing along at full volume. Check it out.
six years in Oct and it was going to be there farewell tour after 40 years and it finished up and at home he died from pain killers taking for a broken hip that he should have suspended the tour for but he didn't and it cost Tom his life
@@donnellholmes6334 Thanks I couldn't remember the year I was supposed to go to one of his last concerts in Huntsville Alabama but missed it and was hoping they were coming back through for the next tour. I said that day I knew how my mom felt when Elvis died now, my heart was broken.
Over 40 years of making music and continued to evolve during that time. I feel as if we grew up together - the good times, bad times, divorces, remarriage - all of it. Please check something from his last album like Fault Lines!
Re: epon...(can't spell it)...The name of the album is the same as name of the group. Or the group named the album after itself. Got to see Tom live, in Jersey, actually, at the Garden State Art Center. Thanks for the reaction.
this song is a bar band must play, everyone plays it. heres a not so fun fact every time i went to a bar , after this song was played no less the 4 girls would come up to me and say "you look just like tom petty with darker hair" im dirty blonde.
I live in Leesburg Florida where Fl Hwy 441 runs thru to Gainesville Florida where TP grew up. So if someone give me directions like go turn left on 441 ... I say like waves crashing on the beach! Only TP fangs get it.
Tom Petty’s greatest hits is great for road trips.
Oh don't I know that!!!
I lost it when you mentioned how this song was the kind of song used in a movie in a fun beach scene because probably the most famous usage of this song basically plays off that expectation and instead subverts it by having it play during a kidnapping scene from Silence of the Lambs.

According to them, not a supergroup, just friends making music.
Eponymous is Latin. I believe the translation is "of one's self." So, like a self-portrait or an autobiography. So when a band releases a self-titled album, it's known as an eponymous album.
Wow. Thanks teach. I didnt know either.

I loved this song but that scene totally ruined it for me!
OMG, I thought to myself, I know what movie this was in😂🤷♀️

This song is in the movie Fast Times At Ridgemont High. It’s playing when the students are back for first day of school.
An eponymous album is what we'd refer to as a self-titled album now. It just means named after itself.
R.E.M. had a greatest hit album that they named Eponymous. It wasn't an eponymous album, that was just its name...
They are a really tight band! One of the best live bands I've seen. And I've been to over 200 concerts and roughly around 100 artists! No exaggerations!!

My hometown boy. Love Tom. RIP MY MAN.
Fun fact, my high school American govt teacher, Rick Rucker, played in The Epics with Tom Petty when they were teens in Gainesville, FL
One of the best classic songs.. Loved Tom Petty😍 RIP
It was in a movie, the girl Buffalo Bill kidnapped in Silence of the Lambs was blasting this and singing along on her way home from work before she got abducted
Tom petty passed away in 2017 .Saw him in concert and Stevie Knicks was touring with him. This has always been my favorite petty song

One of the best interviews I've ever seen was with Tom Petty on PBS after an unplugged performance, he was a very smart articulate guy

This is my favorite Petty song.
Eponymous means something named after the person (or band) that did it. Like Warren Zevon's first album being called Warren Zevon.
This song has been in over 4 million movies....FACTS
One of my favorite TP songs.
Britt you are an American Girl ⚘️
HERE COMES MY GIRL is another one of their early hits. Sadly, Tom passed away unexpectedly at home in October 2017. Love this song & love Tom! ❤
Day, I remember The Box! Hadn't thought of that in years!
Love it, like the studio version better. Cleaner lyrics, plus polished background singing. A classic song. Think i have a new crush😊
Also it is in the beginning of a movie but its Silence of the Lambs as character gets kidnapped.. Great movie..
RIP to Tom Petty!!!! Yes, you will find his music in Movies. One of my favorites is "Fast Times at Ridgemont High". Not gonna find a bad song from this group or when Tom went on his own.
Fabulous, fun song!! I pictured your girl walking smartly through the streets of Manhattan! Lol
When Petty first came out I thought he was just a Bob Dylan immitator but after all his great writing and hits there was no denying that he was the real deal. His own man.
I used Last Dance with Mary Jane as my retirement song. It was ironic and fitting for me. It was sad to hear Tom had passed away.
It's in a movie. Silence of the Lambs. 😊
I'm a Jersey guy, grew up in Elizabeth, NJ
Omg. . i remember the Box. . . My dad wouldn't get us cable so it was the only music channel I had, mid-to-late 90s
Perfect a cappella harmonization: Voctave's Disney Princess Medley. Please!
Love the short bridge, this is my favorite from Tom Petty.
The box! Oh man, didn’t think anybody remembered that lol..
Tom has always been the epitome of cool to me. He looked and sounded kinda weird but he embraced it so strongly that nobody ever even mentions it. His charisma made it all work
"Silence of the Lambs" has a great scene that is decidedly not as...upbeat...as you might expect while using this song.
Love TP and the 💔 Breakers
It was played in the film Chasing Liberty

Eponymous means self titled. So their first album was called Tom Petty And the Heartbreakers.

Awesome reaction Britt, don't care for the song but I watch because of your awesome reaction 😊😊😊 absolutely love guitar playing ❤️🔥
When guitarist Mike Campbell was asked which song, in his opinion, was the quintessential Tom Petty song, he replied "American Girl"
Eponymous in this case means 'Self-titled'. Sorry if someone already said, top comments didn't mention it.
This song always reminds me of “Fast Times at Ridgemont High”.

Got to see Tom live, in Jersey, actually, at the Garden State Art Center.
Thanks for the reaction.
eponymous-adjective of a person giving their name to something. Of a thing, named after a particular person
You're right about a movie "SILENCE OF THE LAMBS"
I loved you Brett that you weren't born then I was only fifteen at the time still love it still play it
Yes i remember the boxlol. Remember pop up video?
R.I.P Tom Petty
Tom Petty sang songs no one else could have pulled off
this song is a bar band must play, everyone plays it. heres a not so fun fact every time i went to a bar , after this song was played no less the 4 girls would come up to me and say "you look just like tom petty with darker hair" im dirty blonde.
Eponymous is a self-titled album
Elvis also got to meet Tom Petty. There's always more than one perspective. 😆
I'm loving your reactions ❤
Funny you should say that. American girl was in the movie Fast Times At Ridgemont High
Eponymous means the album is named after the band so the album is just called Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.
I live in Leesburg Florida where Fl Hwy 441 runs thru to Gainesville Florida where TP grew up. So if someone give me directions like go turn left on 441 ... I say like waves crashing on the beach! Only TP fangs get it.
I think it just means that it is named after the artist/creator, etc. Rabbit Hole! Peace, Love!!
That man didn’t keep a comb in his back pocket for nothin!
This is a little older Tom Petty passed 2 or 3 years ago
5 and half years already
I know, right? 30 years. That's old data. He made a 40 year strong, before passing away. That's great song writing.
You would love Southern Accents. My favorite ❤
Silent of the Lambs
In Silence of the Lambs one of the victims was jamming to this just before she was taken. So you called it, sort of.
Brit now try the traveling woolberries, all stars including Tom Petty, Dylan, Orbison, Harrison and more.
I've never heard anyone comment on Tom Petty's hair
More like an 80’s movie where a teen girl or boy is getting out of bed to this song for school, vacation, anything.
