Meeting Moment: Addressing Concerns about School Resource Officers

Concerns were raised by some Calgarians in the fall of 2020 about how police officers in schools were impacting racialized students. Our Commission and the ‪@calgarypolice‬ promised to conduct a thorough review of Calgary's School Resource Officer program.
Several rounds of engagement have been conducted since, in partnership with ‪@thecityofcalgary‬, ActionDignity, ‪@TheCalgaryBoardofEducation‬, the ‪@CalgaryCatholicSchoolDistrict‬ and ‪@ArgylePR‬ .
At our last meeting, our Commission was presented with 46 recommendations for how the program should evolve to better and more equitably serve students from all of Calgary's communities. In this Meeting Moment, the review team shares their key finding that is driving the changes.
