Biggest Surprises I've had from owning 2 Cane Corsos 1) Mating season is ridiculosuly annoying with the male. They whine and whine and whine 2) No person who's inattentive to their dog, should own one. They will bite someone if you're not. I dont even care if trained, they are 'pre-installed' with the nature to defend home & family 3) After 6 months old, you should have space for them to run 4) Very intelligent. They need mental stimulation daily 5) They have natural herding & hunting instincts. Put them on a farm and watch them begin learning immediately 6) they cost a lot to maintain properly. Wholefood is the best way and only way to do it right. Raw or slightly raw (a little steamed) best. But takes a lot to understand diet.
I have a Cane Corso (Otis - 150lbs) about the same age as Zeus. Everything said about the breed in this video is 100% true. Whenever I used to travel for work, security was always something I thought about, but now that Otis is at home on duty I no longer think about that. He would lay down his own life for his family, and he is spoiled accordingly. This breed is so amazing. What an incredible family friend he has become.
We got both. They did great getting along at the beginning, now not so much and after some fights they got separated (GSD wants to run the place and stays alive because our CC isn't a killer) & now they are only allowed to spend time together under supervision & they know how to behave with activating the electric noise in the metallic fence with the Cattle Prod Stick (Waterproof). PS: no recommend trying to separate them by yourself in the middle of a fight
So your Corso can snack on your GSD?? GSD bite force is around 238-291, while a Corso can be all the way up to 690-700 PSI in their bite. We have 2 Corso &it's been beautiful! Listen to the previous comment. Do u REALLY want to use a cattle prod to safely break up fights?? Or be a constant babysitter?? GSD r lovely! Not a professional here, but I would recommend picking 1 breed (or 2 of similar weight & bite force- like GSD & Rotty)

When our German Shepherd started being annoying & too controlling over everything, I saw how our Corso used to lifted him up like a rag doll and pinned him over his back. Corso's neck muscles are not joke. Like I said, our Corso is noble and usually stopped when he wanted to, without doing so much damage, and then would let the GS get up and let him grab his loose skin (neck) and make a face like "yeah whatever, calm down, my German guy" 🤣

Romania and a few other countries have really good breeders, there are also a few in the U.S that breed actual working line cane corsos. But searching and doing research online and so on is the best way to start. Same with any dog breed you're looking for specific traits or working capabilities.
❤ I love my Cane Corso he so protective of me my husband & my father. He listens to us all, they are very active dogs. So play time should be set aside for them. Great dog breed to have for protection
Don't go for a modern corso like this one, go for a traditional corso if you need a dog for guarding duties and question the breeders on whether the dogs they produce are capable protectors.
Love my corso. Extremely protective even when socialized properly. I have a do not pet collar on mine when taking him out because if you just walk up and pet him he might snap. He needs to warm up to strangers before he allows him to be pet.
What killed it was right when she said they researched the breed and then doesn’t know how to say the name correctly. I didn’t know how it was pronounced until I looked into the breed before getting my first puppy.

@@tallvinesbs1595 Cropping is banned where I live but I see dogs online with just tiny bandages around their ears holding them up, doesn't look as hard as a dobie crop. I wish ear cropping was legal here man, I would make sure my dogs crop was perfect. My dog would look so elegant with a show crop.
To see the Corso at the dog park looking like a big powder cake dog just breaks my heart. Everything is changing for the worst though. These people want to take out the natural nature of these dogs to make them more marketable and it only hurts the owners. When the time comes for a real need for protection, these new "rescued" breeds will be as useless as a $100,000 car that won't start. Soon Cane Corsos will be at dog parks wearing tutus getting bullied by Chihuahuas.

The dog looks more Neo and 170 is too big .big isn't always best but it seems everything in the USA is huge. He's panting like it's an effort to breath normally and because of his size it's going to put a strain on his heart. This breed was the most agile mastiff but I doubt it will be for long.
I would say I've had a few big mastiff that behaved just like yours until they hit 2.5 - 3 years and its like flicking a switch . Any strange dogs and people ad they are willing to react hower they see fit , can be a dangerous time for everyone involved. I alway tell people with immature dogs that who say "oh my dogs friendly" . Yeah hes friendly till hes not anymore, can train through it most of the time but you need to be ready for that first reaction to avoid tradedy
Thanks for the tip! Socialization, and not bending boundaries has kept Zeus to be as docile as he is. We’ll continue to do so, but I understand your point. Consistency is key.
@graciegutierrez6702 my current Boerboel came to work with me 3 days per week meeting clients on a daily basis , went to doggy daycare 2 days per week with up to 50 dogs and came to farmers markets, fishing ,hiking and off lead at the park at weekends . Socialisation is great but if and when they decide they are guard dogs it all goes out the window . Our current boy lunged at a random man in a pub one day whilst I was eating lunch luckily on lead but was inches away from disaster. Happens in the blink of an eye for seemingly know reason , from then on most strangers and strage dogs were a threat and training was difficult. It's normally at the point you think you've nailed training cause it's going so well with obedience and recall etc
@kevinyoung947 not sure about the dogo but the bigger mastiff that I've owned , Boerboel, English, Puerto Rican, French have all matured late 2-2.5 seeing a change in most . Only my current male Boerboel had ongoing reactions for 1 year but manageable now. Would love to own a dogo but it's a banned breed in the UK

I am really interested in the Corso and been watching videos, looking up their heritage, and found two breeders near me. As an avid runner who normally runs at the gym, am I able to take a full size Corso for a seven to ten mile run over the course of an hour? Or will just walking be sufficient with ball time for them to get their run on?
Based on my experience with my 6-year-old female, this video is a great resource for anyone interested in owning a Cane Corso and so much of it rings true. Also based on my experience, I would say a hard ‘no’ on expecting your Cane Corso to run more than 1/4 - 1/2 mile once a day.
We have a constant problem where our large 170 lbs cane corso gets picked on by dogs. dogs scream when he walks by and their owners freak out at us and our dog never even locked at him. My hope is that people educate themselves, that not all dogs, regardless of size are automatically aggressive. Learn the warning signs, how to properly approach a dog etc. I know as a parent, that was one thing we did to priorities even before we got our new dog....ask, let the dog come to you, never approach from behind...etc.
It’s very unfortunate to show a Cane Corso like this as a representative for this breed. In the breed standard Corsos have up to 110 lbs - but 170 lbs is insane. Zeus‘ face has a bit resemblance with the Neopolitan Mastiff, that might explain the extreme weight. Zeus is a very cute boy, but from the Standard view a bad representative for the breed. Please check the breed Standards before creating such documentaries 🙏🏼
I've watched quite a few videos on large breeds. I wonder how many people in the suburbs are readily concerned about their safety and the need for protection (which seems to be a common theme and locale from my observation). I've raised a 75lb staffy and live in a city with many crime-related incidents. Still, I've never felt the need for my dog to protect me or my wife. (The dog's presence alone is usually an a-hole deterrent.) I look forward to raising a Cane Corso and understanding their protective nature. Still, I wouldn't want my dog needlessly in harm's way. I wonder if an owner harbors a fearful disposition if it unduly influences the dog's threat response.
Our dogs were never trained as “protectors” but their presence was enough to deter some crime and it helped that my dog barks so loud it rings your eardrums. People in the suburbs should be training these dogs to bark to alert and to not eat anything given. That is enough for most so that criminals don’t poison their dog and so they just bark instead of accidentally biting a kid.

@@philip1345 that would make him a CPM (cane da presa meridionale) which is a very very limited and elite project here in south italy. it would require you to pass all sorts of ''test and exames'' just to eligible to take part in it, so i guess its not.....its a good dog for this family...its all that matters.

Unless you get a working line that isn't mixed with neopolitian and so on most corsos aren't what the breed is meant to be or look like now a days.

I just got mine, she's a blue with grey green eyes and 3 months old. She's getting her coordination locked down in the house, we have no carpet. Lol.

100%, I really wish they show cased a more correct cane corso (I know the true corso has been lost) but the European lines are bred a lot healthier.
Mine is a male around 110 he still has some growing but 170 is a bit much and not healthy.

@@philip1345 that would make him a CPM (cane da presa meridionale) which is a very very limited and elite project here in south italy. it would require you to pass all sorts of ''test and exames'' just to eligible to take part in it, so i guess its not.....its a good dog for this family...its all that matters.
