He is one of the only mangakas i've seen who keeps in contact with his audience like that, it's great that we can understand how he works and how he comes up with new ideas it's very inspirational, love you Ito sensei thanks a lot 💖
What can you do. When he's done drawing digitally it's ready to print in 2 seconds. When he's done drawing traditionally he needs to scan it, etc etc etc. I love traditional as well but it's just 1 more step to an already long process these days. (Obviously there's a lot of cases where its used and still used and still predominant but in manga business no way jose. Not if you're serialized. (unless you're ahead of schedule) but since Ito is a perfectionist, he could spend hours on one page if he didn't get himself to move on.
@@charmolettafranquestafiestayam I understand it's necessary and I understand why he has to switch over to a digital format to keep up. I just hope that his level of detail doesn't eventually start to suffer as his deadlines become shorter.
So great that my favourite horror comic artist actually loves my favourite horror director's movie .. but than again there's no way he would not appreciate Ari Aster's greatness .. their sense of horror are in the same ball park, very atmospheric stuffs..
i’m pretty sure he does sketch first in most cases, but for this video, he just wanted to do a quick little drawing, so he didn’t need to do a sketch first
@@nahte- He has done these characters for so long, you no longer need to sketch it. Drawing a character like that effortlessly with no sketch represents thousands of hours of illustration experience.
the scariest thing in this video is the confidence with which he puts ink to paper without any visible sketch or thumbnail. horrifically intimidating levels of skill!
They’re very simplistic compared to the rest of his art. There is a rule in cartooning that the more simplified a character is in design, the more they audience will project themselves onto that character. This is why many sunday paper comic strips have such simplistic characters! Ito’s use of simplistic design amongst heavy detail naturally draws the eye and creates an effect that haunts the viewer!
i think it’s the detailed eyes against a really minimalistic face, i’ve been trying to implement that part of his style into my art style, it’s fun, gives a really cool effect
He’s so well-mannered and talented at his work. Very happy to see that Junji ito shows us how he draws his characters and what inspires him to draw them. Truly a talented man.

You don't need to sketch if you've mastered composition and if you've already envisioned what you want to draw beforehand. this is a fairly simple drawing. as for doing a manga, that's a whole other process - from what I know there's the story board and a few other details which typically requires a sketch first. This man is a master.
hearing him mention Umezu Kazuo drove me nuts, I loved Kazuo's Fourteen and Drifting Classroom as the former gave a really dark and dystopian future while the latter is just purely crazy horror fiction.
I love his work so much! So dark, disturbing yet beautiful to see/read. My favorite stories of him would be Hellstar Remina is the most disturbing to me alongside The Bully even if it's very short. Army of One, Hanging Balloons and Window Next Door. As for favorite character it would be the protagonist of Uzumaki and Souichi.
I honestly think that if I were to bump into this legend and ask him to draw me something, it would suffice if he were just draw a single line on a piece of paper and I would put it on my wall.
