Beseige is a game I’ve always wanted as a person who is heavily in love with engineering and building contraptions ever since i was little but haven’t been able to get because of a lack of a pc to run it on but now I’m finally getting one and I can finally unleash my hours and hours of ideas and things I want to build along with playing a lot of pc exclusive games I have been dying to play since I have only been able to play on console
What he’s trying to build is an Open Differential, an open differential works exactly as described, it allows one wheel to move at a different speed from the other. The problem is that if one wheel loses traction it can cause all of the power to go to that wheel because it has less resistance and therefore the wheel that has traction doesn’t get any power and you’re stuck which is an obvious problem of off road vehicles. This problem is fixed by a Locked Differential, this setup allows ZERO difference between the wheels. This causes problems on the road because every time you take a turn one of your wheels will slightly lock up and screech until you’re out of the turn. There are also Welded Differentials, which are just modified Open Differentials that act like Locked Differentials. Lastly, Limited Slip Differentials exist and they are a complicated mix between Open and Locked Differentials and allow a tolerance of difference between the two wheels and nothing more.
That was great for a first try, took me hours to figure out to build my own differential without looking at other peoples creations, only by watching a 1937 video explaining how a differential works haha, honestly would recommend other people to watch it on youtube its called *How Differential Steering Works (1937) *

Super cool! I actually do exactly this kind of stuff all the time in Besiege. Transmissions, clutches, etc. It makes me want a game that better-made for it, because it gets clunky quickly.
So a long time ago there was a physics exploit where if you had four hinges on a wooden block mounted to a swivel joint, that block would start spinning like a perpetual motion machine (in that it would produce more energy than was input and would eventually spin fast enough to cause structural failure) I build a sort of pseudo gearbox/switchbox system that used it to power the drive and an angry windmill to use up some of that kinetic energy to prevent it from ripping itself apart. It wasn’t very effective but I was quite proud of it.

Good video, but there are a few things you missed (specifically about Besiege, not about differentials).
