- A 1980's film where Dracula falls in love. Poor acting, weird dialogue, and inexplicable plot points make this movie one of the worst anime ever, just bad enough to be awesome. I don't own it, I just upload it.

Thank you! This film was a part of childhood (believe it or not) at a _very_ tender age. My brother and I would watch it over and over on VHS. I still know most of the dialogue circa thirty-five years later!

As DOOM! pointed out, this is based on Marvel Comics Tomb of Dracula. It is a very condensed & loyal retelling of the last story arc. In the comics, it is Quincy Harker, not Hans and Lilith is replaced with Layla. The story moves much faster, covering a lot of material and I may have had a hard time following it, if I hadn't read the source material. Thanks for uploading the video!

This was incredible, I was riveted to the screen the entire time! Saved to library, thank you so much for uploading, I can't believe I've never found this before, it's like a Chick Tract gone wrong, then right, then sideways, I'm definitely satisfied and I think I might have peed a little.
I never thought about Satan versus Dracula as being a thing, but I'm glad they went there.
Funny trivia: the character Blade made his first appearance in the Tomb Of Dracula-comics that this movie is based on. Yeah, both the comics and the movie is by MARVEL.
Another trivia fact about the comic art. Dracula's design was based on actor Jack Palance who later played the character in what is now called Dan Curtis Dracula.
That's right. Although Blade did not appear anywhere in this film. But that's probably for the best considering how goofy this movie is.
I mean in the credits it does say it's based on "Tomb of Dracula by Marvel Comic Group"

A nostalgic piece for those that grew up with old rental VHS tapes, but hasn't aged well in terms of dialogue and dubbing. Visually it still looks pretty good, so a new dub may do this wonders (although I do like the actress performing Dolores, she's really sincere and heartfelt).

FYI:this 'anime' was based on Marvel Comics' "Tomb of Dracula" (1972-'81).
I have a few copies. My uncle used to subscribe it.
The alternate title for this anime IS "Tomb of Dracula."
They've reprinted the original comic book run for "Tomb of Dracula" in both hardcover and trade paperback within the last decade. It was a Marvel series. I've got the first hardcover volume; still have to get volume 2. Marv Wolfman (the irony of his last name, and he's Jewish! LOL) wrote the comic series with a lot of the art done by the late Gene Colan. Wolfman left Marvel after the mid-1970s and went to work for DC Comics almost exclusively for the rest of his comic book career. His most famous collaborator was artist George Perez but they never did any Dracula stories together that I'm aware of.

NOT gonna bother searching for this anime film! I have about 3/4 of the Dracula I want to have on DVD and Blu ray, and that's Bela Lugosi and Christopher Lee for me!
I think they only released the Dracula anime on VHS in the US and I'm pretty sure most DVD releases are probably bootlegs. Funny thing is that RUclips is the first place I saw the film. I was aware of it in 1986 but never saw it any of the video places I bought anime from OR rented VHS tapes. I don't think even Suncoast or Media Play ever had it stock when I browsed those places while they existed.
Doubt anyone's going to reissue it because the masters may not exist anymore or they might not even know WHO owns the film now! Anime changes ownership all the time based on production companies going in and out of existence. You could almost classify this as "lost anime" but I think the truth is nobody is interested in licensing it. If you've seen this film, you know how bad it is! 😆 😅 😂 🤣😆 😅 😂 🤣
There's also a Frankenstein anime where the voice of the little girl is done by Reba West, Minmay (Robotech) and Mihoshi (Tenchi Muyo) herself!
Frankenstein is semi-decent. Rented that on VHS and I believe it has been posted on RUclips, at least in the past. The Tomb of Dracula anime is just goofy!

Fun fact: Dracula once fought En Sabah Nur (aka Apocalypse) as a human in 1459 and lost. In retaliation, the Sovereign of the Damned later turned members of Clan Akkaba into vampires in 19th century London, forcing Apocalypse to team up with Abraham Van Helsing to stop the threat.
This love story is 100 times better than twilight.

I think this may be the best bad movie ever made-it's at least in the top 10.
This is funny as the three main characters do not influence the plot at all. In this story Dracula makes an enemy of both God and Satan so the whole things moves above the pay grade of these three assholes and their dog very quickly.

Maybe it's because back in the 1980s you could only empathize with the villain so much. Back then, Evil was meant to lose- big time too . . . . well . . . he did have a blissful year with Dolores . . . and his son ended up alive in the end. But in order for them to get away and still be innocent, Dracula had to die.

As a kid who grew up on saturday morning anime this hits a perfect tone for me
I fell asleep watching Vampire Hunter D and woke to this gem playing. I've never seen it before, but it has kept me up to this gem. At first I thought I was imagining how awful this was, but it rivals The Room; it's like its animated cousin. Yet, it kept me awake until 0430.

This wasn't just a random Dracula film. This was a loose adaptation of Marvel's Tomb of Dracula but it left Blade out (they couldn't get the rights) and tried to cram years worth of comic book story into one film. That's why it's so weird (Besides the bad dubbing).
It's not that bad, I remeber renting it onVHS when I was little back in the early 190s or late 80s. Quite interesting to watch it again now

Many think Dracula looks like Tony Stark in this depiction I think he has more of a Clark Gable, another commentator pointed out that the comic version was based on "Hollywoods ugliest man" Jack Palance.
I thought Shemp Howard was the ugliest man in Hollywood.
Interesting but for a long time Jack Palance was my favorite Drac...until Gary Oldman.
Gary Oldman's certainly a great actor , my personal soft spot inclines toward the earlier film representations eg, Lugosi. It can be difficult to get past the farsical elements in most portrayals though.
@@emptyhand777 Funnily enough both Shemp Howard/Horwitz and Jack Palance both trace thier ancestry to a similar part of Eastern Europe, Lithuania and Ukraine respectively. And the term Fake-Shemp is used to describe the process in film making whereby an actor who has died unexpectedly is replaced by a lookalike to complete the project. Which is what happened to Shemp Howard and also Bela Lugosi when he was replaced by Tom Howard in Plan 9 from outerspace. Just a bit of weird Hollywood synchronicity with a Dracula actor theme.
Aww that father/son dynamic is deliciously tragic (but could sure use a more sophisticated story teller to do it justice).

It's worse in DC Comics. Cultists summon Lucifer and he calls them out on the cringe stuff they used in their ritual, which includes one guy in a goat mask. I finally gave this a full viewing, and yeah, it's insane and utterly ridiculous. Yet, dare I say, better than any other anime adaptation of a Marvel property I've seen.
Beyond the animated series, There are modern animes of X-Men and avengers that you would find cool to look up. I don't know their names but just look up wolverine or avengers anime and I'm sure you'll find it. Watch out there is a children's avengers anime. While it's not bad for a children's cartoon it's pretty garbage for mature viewers.

This definitely was the role that put him on the radar. I know him mostly as Devimon from Digimon Adventure, The Puppet Master/Project 2501 from the original Ghost in the Shell movie, Harry McDowell from Gungrave and Quent Yaiden from Wolf's Rain.

Even the dog has a back story.
Sort of wish the two women he fed on the one at the airport, and the one in the alley, had come back as vampires, in the comics that's basically how it works once Dracula bites you and feeds off you die and come back as a vampire yourself, so by the comic rules those women probably came back as vampires after about a day they just did not show it, in the film.
