      That is an awful line. Neither JJ nor Rian did ANY world building during the trilogy. We never see the Rebels massing ships or making plans. Also, at the end of the second movie, Rian goes out of his way to tell us the Rebellion is doomed. He tells us that the Rebels contacted the Republic for help and NO ONE was coming.
      So here we are at the end of the THIRD movie, we STILL know nothing about the Republic, other than it was nothing more than those six planets that JJ blew up in the first movie. But JJ didn't care. He wanted to have his cool space battle but he didn't want to work for it. He didn't want to explain how this was even possible. So when Lando says that awful, "they're just . . . people" line, that is literally the only thing JJ CAN say about them.

    Ima be honest. I love how we actually get to see how much faster the falcon is compared to other ships. Like I don’t recall them ever really showing how much faster it really was. Like the original trilogy the ties would keep up easily with it which is kinda weird considering it’s not considered to be that fast of a fighter. So seeing it completely torch poes x wing when they were trying to save Finn was coo to see.

    • @Thoralmir
      @Thoralmir Год назад +5

      It had the most powerful hyperdrive engines for it's size, meaning it could croos the entire width of the galaxy in a matter of a few days whereas it would take moat other vessals weeks or even months; the claim did not really apply to sublight speeds however.

    • @kgatch113a
      @kgatch113a Год назад

      So when they talk about speed, they are not talking about actual speed. A fast ship was one who had the best hyperspace lanes stored in its nav computer. By linking lanes together, it could make a trip shorter, this speeding up the trip and making the ship fast. We see this in Solo when Han and Chewie do the Kessel run in less than 12 parsecs, because when L3 is uploaded into the nav computer, she is able to assimilate the charts faster and more thoroughly than a normal nav computer.
      Now it all makes sense right? The Falcon is routinely outsped in physical speed by Tie fighters and Star Destroyers. But when going into Hyperspace, it will be taking the shorter, and thus faster, routes.

    • @chrislastname9682
      @chrislastname9682 11 месяцев назад

      @@kgatch113aI should add that the Falcon was also running a black market hyperdrive illegally modified to a Class .5 rating. Meaning that it can travel twice as fast through hyperspace as the standard speed class, which would've only been installed on light cruisers and shuttles. Even the Imperial II Class ISDs had only a Class 2. In fact, in Legends only 2 other ships have hyperdrives that go past a Class 1 rating: Slave 1 at 0.7 and Dash Rendar's Outrider at 0.75. There's a few non-standard examples as well, but those were Hapan and Zenora Sekotan designs, with the fastest being Anakin's Jabitha which did an astounding 0.4.
      As far as sublight speed, you're absolutely right that the Falcon only pulled 80 MGLT max. It *was* faster than any capital ship, and I seem to remember a retcon for certain battles explaining that while TIE fighters and X-wings can top out at 100 MGLT, the Falcon has better atmospheric speed/maneuverability because it has more powerful drive core and more repulsors. But that's just hearsay from what I know.

    • @chrislastname9682
      @chrislastname9682 11 месяцев назад

      @@kgatch113a it's from the collected lore from both Canon and Legends. Mostly books. The (Legends) Expanded Universe was very kind to Lucas by retconning some semblance of physics and science into his nonsense. The whole "she'll make .5 past light speed" line was an absolute killer and the only way most authors could make it work was by assigning hyperdrive classes that represented the scale of average hyperspace travel. Class 1 is 700LY/ hour. Class 0.5 then is (estimated, Solo was prone to exaggeration) roughly 1400LY. Officially, he was able to go from the Core to the Outer Rim in a matter of hours. Anakin's living ship Jabitha came from a book series that covered his life as a child Padawan under Obi-Wan, pre-Clone Wars era. I think the ship existed for a matter of hours before it was destroyed.

This is a galaxy-wide collection of people who have had to put up with the Sith's crap for God knows how long. They're tired of it and they want it to end. And end it they did.
    In my opinion, this was a nice little nod to where it all started, where it all ends.

      I see this as, essentially, the end result of an EPIC miscalculation on Palpatine's part. When it was just the First Order most people were ignoring it as same' ol same 'ol. Wanting to be feared like he was before, Palpatine reveals that it is in fact him behind it all. And it works, in the sense that it makes people more afraid. But like Yoda said, 'fear leads to anger.' Instead of fear making them cower like before, this time it makes them rise up because, as you say, he pushed them over the line into 'we've had enough of this sh--' territory. In essence, he hoisted himself by his own petard, since if that fleet had gotten a chance to disperse across the galaxy he would have won.

    I have my fair share of criticisms regarding this movie but this part was one I unequivocally enjoyed. The entire galaxy finally coming together to tell the Empire, the Emperor and the First Order that they've had enough of their tyranny, enough of living in fear. Ships from the Original Trilogy, the Prequels, the Clone Wars, Rebels and even a few from Legends, binding the entire franchise together.

    While it’s a gigantic plot hole how Lando managed to pull the entire galaxy out of his butt just in time for the final battle, and we don’t even see him do it, Is frustrating;
    I’ll defend the impact of that moment nonetheless.
    When Finn yells “You did it!”
    It comes off like Lando finally accomplished what was once impossible.
    Lando is the last of the four original lead characters.
    Like Han and Luke, Lando experienced grief, letting it get the better of him,
    Ultimately leaving Leia to fight the battle by herself.
    And when he finally does show up to help, Leia to, is gone.
    Yet he doesn’t retreat or question his decision.
    As Poe mourns over Leia’s body,
    Lando emerges,
    the Force theme playing behind him.
    The first time the song has played for someone who wasn’t a Skywalker, or for an act of the force.
    Lando now sees that being the last one left isn’t a sign to fall into despair,
    Or that he should give up,
    But that there is purpose for him being here,
    And the force has called him here at this exact time and place to fulfill his purpose.
    Not to live with the regrets of those not around,
    But to do what they would all do if they were still here.
    The emotion comes less from the faceless majority appearing,
    rather from the last hero left, who’s luck is gone, all odds are against,
    Taking the risk anyway.

      The way this scene is portrayed with the Resistance fleet is actually how I always imagined the Battle of Endor after reading this description from the Return of the Jedi novelization (just a shame that even the Special Edition didn't manage to capture it):
      "In a remote and midnight vacuum beyond the edge of the galaxy, the vast Rebel fleet stretched, from its vanguard to its rear echelon, past the range of human vision. Corellian battle ships, cruisers, destroyers, carriers, bombers, Sullustian cargo freighters, Calamarian tankers, Alderaanian gunships, Kesselian blockade runners, Bestinian skyhoppers, X-wing, Y-wing, and A-wing fighters, shuttles, transport vehicles, manowars. Every Rebel in the galaxy, soldier and civilian alike, waited tensely in these ships for instructions."
      And, I also imagined some former Trade Federation Lucrehulks - complete with droid fighter complements - taking part in the battle!

    And nothing exemplifies that better than the fact that I actually watched all three of these moviez, in the theaters, and didnt remember this scene at all. They just didnt stay with me. They were...ethereal. They came and went without any real lasting effect.
