Connor: Hey guys, Connor here at etrailer.com. Today, we're going to be taking a look at the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver, here for our 2020 Ford Fusion. As we can see, this is what the Curt Trailer Hitch looks like installed on our Fusion. Has a one and a quarter inch receiver tube opening, which is going to allow us to do quite a bit of different things, such as towing a trailer. Or we could use a bike rack or cargo carrier, if we want to hit the trails or free up some space inside the vehicle. Our Curt Trailer Hitch here has a class two rating, which is going to provide us with a 3,500 pound gross trailer weight rating.
And this is going to be the amount we can pull on our fully loaded trailer. It's also going to provide us with a 350 pound tongue weight rating, and that's going to be the downward vertical force here on the receiver tube opening.This tongue weight is going to be important, whether we are towing a trailer or we have a bike rack or cargo carrier. So please keep in mind. We will need to check the towing capacity of our Fusion and our owner's manual. The cross tube, the main body on the hitch here is going to be sitting behind our bumper.
And this is going to give us a very sleek finished install look. So on the side of the receiver tube opening here, we're going to have a half inch diameter hitch pin hole, and this is going to be used for our hitch pin and clip, keep in mind, these are sold separately. To secure our ball Mount or bike rack/cargo carrier. We also have locking options available if you prefer one of those. So welded to the bottom of the receiver tube opening here, we have our safety chain loops.These safety chain loops are going to be perfect for these smaller S type hooks on our smaller to medium duty trailers.
And also we could even use the larger clubs S hooks if we wanted. As you can see here, we have plenty of clearance even with the larger clevis hook to move our hitch pin in and out. So now we have a couple of measurements here for you. They're going to help when you're selecting your hitch mounted accessories, such as a ball Mount or a bike rack or cargo carrier. The first measurement we have here is the distance from the ground, to the top inside edge of our hitch, which is going to be about 10 and a quarter inches.
This is going to be useful when we're selecting our ball Mount. So we make sure we get the correct rise and drop in relation to what our trailer needs.The other measurement we have for you is the distance from the center of the hitch pin hole, to the outermost edge of the bumper. That's going to be about five inches. This measurement is going to be particularly useful. We're selecting our bike racks or cargo carriers that fold up against the vehicle so we can make sure we don't have any interference issues. So in regards to installation, this is definitely going to be something you can do at home by yourself. There's no cutting or drilling required, nor do we need any special tools. Therefore, we're not going to have to make any permanent modifications to our vehicle. However, keep in mind, if you have a hybrid model, such as what you see here, there is going to be an additional bracket we're going to need to make, but we sell these here through Etrailer and we'll walk you through the process.To start our installation then, you want to come underneath the vehicle here. We need to locate this rear appearance panel, which is going to be directly below the lower bumper faciei. So this little panel here needs to come out in order to do so, we're going to have a mix of fasteners here. We're going to have some screws. We're going to have some pushpin fasteners. We're also going to have some plastic nuts on the inside. So we want to take a seven millimeter socket and begin by removing these screws here on the exterior of the panel. Now, once our screws are removed, we're going to have these two plastic push pin fasteners here on the outside. What you do is take a trim panel tool here, pry the center out and then pull the rest out. And then finally, we're going to take our 10 millimeter socket here, as we said, we're going to have some plastic nuts here on the inside of our panel that we need to remove as well.Now we can take our rear appearance panel here and set it aside. So now that we have our appearance panel out, we can go ahead and come to the inside of the vehicle here. Now for this video, I went ahead and circled yellow outline the two holes that we're going to be using for our trailer hitch. Now, once we have our holes identified, we want to take our bolt leader here. Take the coiled end. W
Is that speaker on the 2019 ford fusion hybrid as well?
I haven't been able to determine that, however if the speaker is there it will be very visible after that appearance panel is removed.

I cant find any info on the PHEV’s tounge weight limit im looking to add a hitch for hauling ebikes (about 300lbs with rack) will this work?
Ford states in the owner's manual that the Energi model isn't designed for towing, so they don't list a tongue weight capacity. We looked up the towing capacity for the gas model, and found that the 1.5, 2.5 and 2.7 L engine equipped vehicles have a 1000 lb towing capacity. The 2.0 L engine has a 2000 lb towing capacity. The generally accepted tongue weight capacity is 10% of the vehicle's towing capacity, so since the Energi and gas versions of the 2020 Fusion have the same chassis, it would be fairly safe to assume that you're looking at a 100-200 lb tongue weight capacity depending on the engine the vehicle is equipped with. Either way, you won't have sufficient tongue weight capacity for a bike rack/bike combination weighing 300 lbs. We do offer the # 306-X7239 from EcoHitch that has a 525 lb tongue weight capacity, but you'll be limited by the lower capacity of the vehicle itself.

I have to rent a uhaul trailer to tow a log splitter across a few states. The log splitter is a little over 600 lbs. Would this be too much for the hitch and car?
You should be ok with tongue weight and total trailer weight for the hitch to handle but you will want to check what the capacity of your Fusion is to safely travel.

Will this fit on the 2020 ford fusion s?
This hitch is not designed to fit the 2020 Ford Fusion Sport. We do not currently offer a hitch that will fit it.
