- Dak Prescott can now grip the football and will begin throwing today. The quarterback has not played or practiced since injuring his thumb in Week 1. Cooper Rush is 4-0 since stepping in for Dak as the starting quarterback, and the Dallas Cowboys head to Philadelphia to take on the undefeated Eagles on Sunday Night Football. Skip Bayless and Shannon Sharpe debate on whether Dak should start in Week 6 if Dak proves to the coaching staff this week that he is 100 percent able to throw the football.

With Dak playing, the Cowboys have no identity and they try to sling the ball like they're the Bills or Chiefs when in reality they should be running the ball as heavily as they are right now with Cooper Rush. The best thing for the Cowboys is run the ball and control the clock. Keep that dynamic defense fresh because if they don't and the defense gets tired it's over regardless of who the QB is.

@@johnet22 Hostetler was THE definition of a "game manager". A career long back up, painful to watch. It felt like he was sacked each time he dropped to pass, or knocked down, or hurried. He made sure he got touched each play by holding onto the ball as long he could.
Anyway, he was efficient enough to get starting jobs after the Simms injury. Respect for that.
Either way, Rush has MORE attempts (including the 16 last Sunday which drastically dropped his average) per game than Hostetler when each QBs were starting.

Rush may be a “game manager” but the fact is the whole team has been playing different since he came in. He executes the game plan, keeps the offense on the field long enough to give the defense time to rest and he’s come in clutch the couple times he’s had to. He’s no where near the athlete Dak was before his 2020 injury but he seems to make better reads than Dak and he can make certain throws that Dak can’t/won’t. All of this is subject to change over time but right now it is what it is.

You still need to be able to pass the ball. The eagles have the talent to not only load the box but also cover very well with slay and bradberry on the outside. Linebackers are solid in coverage as well. What happens when the run game isn't working and they're forced to throw it 30+ times

I think that Rush should continue to start since the wins have been great for the team. Others think about it in terms of Dak losing his starting position. If he loses his position then that’s what it is. Rush is obviously doing well so why make another change and revert back to the frustration the team has already been through with Dak? Let this play out and see where it goes. I want to see the Cowboys win and this is working.

Cooper will be playing with heart to have a starting spot. Dak will be playing to keep one. Interesting predicament.
They both actually have a point, but probably the best move would be to keep Cooper in because he’s hot on a streak, throwing Dak into the lions den against what’s (supposedly) the best team in the league currently is probably not the best. What would be best is to bring Dak back against the lions as they are definitely a weaker team and at that point he’d have had 5-6 weeks of healing and can more easily get back into the swing of things. I’ve liked Cooper immensely these past few game but to be absolutely fair, with what they are paying Dak, Cooper is just building up his trade capital, he will never be the starter.

It's very clear that the way dallas needs to play to win is only being done when rush plays regardless of the reason, if Dakota plays we don't run we pass take chances no needed throw picks and put more unneeded pressure on our defense.

Well, do y'all remember when Keenum turned around the Vikings in 2017 and took them all the way to the NFC Championship Game? Rest is History afterward. We were most successful when Dak was dinkin and dunkin and pounding the rock.. once we tried to make Dak more of a focal point by throwing more, it messed our rhythm up.. now that our defense is playing really good, we need to stick with the game plan we have with Cooper Rush with Dak..
