I mix up the Plus and Max and few times in this review. I tried to catch my mistakes in the captions but now understand that they only show if the captions are turned on. My second time using Final Cut Pro X.
The Ionoity screen only showed the battery level and not what the charge rate was.
DC Charging via CCS has a maximum of 100kW.
Finally, the charging chart is incorrect. The correct information is on the link below.

This is one of the best review of the ID3 , more conversational and less like a commercial.
Thanks so much for your comment Merrion. I'm really glad you enjoyed it. I get a little mixed up on the version and the charging details but I'm trying.
Heard on other channels lower range ID3 has same motor which is detuned not 204bhp?
@@112deeps thanks for the comment. See full specifications here www.evspecifications.com/en/model/8fa9b8
Thanks for the mention :) TeslaBjorn's 1000km run showed it consistently taking 100kW on a suitable charger..
Thanks for the comment Gerard.
Great review Derek
Enjoyed it. Keep up the good work
Thanks for the comment Mary. Appreciate your feedback.
Very Informative. Answeres many questions.
Thanks for your comment Francis. Glad you found it informative
You have great command of the language, very easy to listen to. Informative review as well.
Thanks so much for your comment and I'm glad you enjoyed the review.
Another detailed review - excellent!
Thanks for the comment DC Various Vids. Glad you enjoyed it.
Nice review. Cheers
Thanks for leaving the comment Robert. The review was a bit long but I've included chapters now so people can navigate to what they're interested in.
Thanks for comprehensive review. I hope the VW ID family will inaugurate mainstreaming of EVs in Europe. Eamon
Thanks for the comment Eamon. I hope so too!
Looks like a good option for ev buyers. Love to see more detail on charging though. Do we even have any available 100 KW chargers in Ireland yet?
Thanks for the comment Kevin. May have to do another video specifically about the charging. ESB have started installing new 150kW "High Power" chargers around the country. www.esb.ie/ecars/news/2020/2020/08/25/the-first-high-power-chargers-standard-charger-upgrades-and-new-fast-charger-sites and I've added the link to the correct charging times in the description of the review.
Good review, I see it as Ice age vehicle with batteri
Thanks for the comment Yuriy. I'd say VW did lots of consumer research and had to find a happy middle ground.
Great review, really appreciate the detail and style. We're very interested in the ID.3 even though it's not coming to North America, as it gives some clues as to what to expect from the upcoming ID.4.
Trying to branch out into more EV models here, so hope you don't mind if we borrow some cues from your camera angles and equipment list :-)
Thanks for the comment. Glad you enjoyed it. I'm looking forward to seeing the ID.4 too. Happy to help and if you've any questions drop me a line on Twitter.
I tested an ID.3 1st Max last week. I really liked how it drove and it's assist systems. But I absolutely hated the steering wheel buttons. And I believe at the price point they should have better quality materials
Thanks for the comment Tom. I wonder will they change the buttons on the regular edition or will this be what we're stuck with?
@@NevoEVReviewIreland As far as the dealership I went to said the buttons will stay... He also admitted he didn't like them and didn't get the feeling to work them properly 🙈
And I even think ID.4 will get the exact same steering wheel with the same buttons.
Very interesting, customer feedback will have to influence future models. Tesla like continuous improvements won't happen at VW
Re pricing, as you said all versions [currently available, presumably] have the same capacity battery and same motor power, how can there be 16k difference between the base and the max? Wheels and pano roofs aren't going to be adding 5 figures?
Morning Paul, the 1st editions all have the same battery and motor power correct. The only different is the extras you get. VW have the full list on their site www.volkswagen.ie/en/models-and-configurator/id3-1st.html
From what I can see these seem to start closer to 35k Where do you find them for cheaper and are there financing options?
Morning Dylan, thanks for the questions. Due to the chip shortage globally VW have removed the entry level ID.3 from their range. Hoping it will come back once full strength production returns. Yes, you can lease this car with different companies. I was looking at Leaseplan yesterday.
17:48 😐 .... BUT CAN YOU POWERSLIDE IT?
Thanks for the comment Robert, not that we could see 😂
€, Kms, Guinness... I love Ireland!!!
Just put steering wheel on the right side & I'm in 😂
Thanks for the comment Fer.....but it's already on the right side 😉
I prefer it to be on the left hand side. 😉
47k sorry still going for the Kona
Or Niro?
Hard plastic doesn t automatically equal poor build quality.
Thanks for the comment Jon. I totally agree, as mentioned in the review, if it's for better range I understand its usage. In the review I also point out the build quality around the console between the front passenger and driver. I feel it could be better.
@@NevoEVReviewIreland They had to cut down cost and weight for sure. But i would guess the main parts of the car are good. No vibrating part on high speed or panel gaps....
@0:50 they all have a 58kWh battery? Nope, they are 48kWh, 58kWh and75kWh capacities for each tier. Hence the price differences.
Thanks Barry. This review is for the ID.3 1st edition. The battery sizes you mention are coming to the market early next year.
You regularly confuse Plus and Max and the charge chart is wrong, it is not limited to 7.2 kW. What chargers is Ionity using in ireland, not the usual Tritium ones with a big display? You should get about 50 kW at 71 % when starting with a low battery charge.
Thanks for the comment Abraxus. I tried to catch my mistakes in the captions but now see that they only show if the captions are turned on. The screen only showed the battery level and not what the charge rate was. The charging chart is only in relation to the charging speeds for home, destination and AC charging question. I'll add the clarification to the description. Thanks again.
@@NevoEVReviewIreland Just saying here is the more correct chart which shows 11 kW AC. ev-database.org/car/1300/Volkswagen-ID3-1st
@@abraxastulammo9940 excellent. I'll add it to the description now too.
@@DerekReillyIrl And DC charging via CCS port is done at 100 kW.
Thanks for the comment Boudewijn. I don't know why I don't mention it in this review! I always mention the DC capacity. I'll add it to the clarification notes in the description.
Would you buy one?
Thanks for great question Ryan. It's a quality EV and I enjoyed driving it. It would be on my list of options if I was in the market. I'll also be recommending it to those in the market along with the other options. Kia e-Soul, PEUGEOT e-2008 and Nissan LEAF all on there too not forgetting the Hyundai IONIQ.
I should have gone into politics! Ha ha
@@NevoEVReviewIreland would be interested to see what you think of the Ioniq. Have read some very negative reviews
@@ryanlaffan7064 Hes done a review of the Ioniq 2020 model. ruclips.net/video/gJyaxh4MQXk/видео.html
@@NevoEVReviewIreland Definitely maybe :-)
That all looks very clunky/fisher-price/dated. A shame. This car had so much potential, but I think they've missed the mark.
Thanks for the comment. Time and sales numbers will tell.
Somewhat agreed... The displays have so dated graphic.
Exactly!

Better range and charging speed than most EV in the same price range like Kona, Leaf, E golf. Quite efficient as well. The one with 58 kwh batteri even equal Model 3 SR+ range up to 440 km. It s also one of the, if not the most quiet EV in it s class. Roomier than Golf. The price is also very competitive. I think this car will be a success for VW, same with the new ID4. The ID3 is Norway most sold EV in september.
