Actually you don't need the Time Stop Hat to beat Act 9: Cheating The Race. You just need the scooter badge and some precision jump and you can still beat the rocket guy~ and that's why A hat in Time is a great game, it's doesn't limit how you play, you can always find new ways to beat it~
Seriously, every youtubers praise this game, always giving it perfect scores and i agree with that... then you "official" game critics : IGN (8/10), Gamespot (7/10), Jeuxvideo.com (from France; 15/20)... basically, these critics are too much nit picking, making it lose points for some camera issues, framerate, no french option (i'm a french canadian and i really don't care at all) and some of these issues also appeared in games that got perfect scores on these websites, like WTF
It does kind of annoy me how gaming journalists think that Mario is inherently better than every other platformer. I never played Mario as a kid so I was always curious about the immense praise it got. Then a few years ago I began to go through all the main Super Mario games. I liked them, but failed to see what was better about them than any other great platformer. It's not even like it's nostalgia either. There are loads of platformers I never played as a kid that I prefer to Mario; Sly, Shovel Knight, Classic Sonic, just to name a few. Whilst I love the Super Mario series, it so annoys me that game reviewers are so dismissive of platformers except for Mario. "It's good, but it's not Mario."
Michael Hill im excited for mario oddessy and im pretty sure its going to be an amazing hit, but people truly dont know that yet since the game isnt released yet. So it is a little obnoxious to immediately assume its game of the year when its not even out yet
It's pretty much because Mario pioneered both 2D- and 3D-plattforming and set the bar for so many other games. Sure, if you look at, say, "Super Mario 64" now, it looks like a very ugly game with average plattforming, but back then it was the first true 3D-game and it was nothing short of being mindblowing. And the game got judged when it come out, so of course it got a lot of praise back then. Similar things can be said about many other of the Mario games, and even the new game "Super Mario Odyssey" looks very promising so far, with so many creative original ideas.
stars are required to open doors because spells were put on the doors and only stars can break the spells, thats also why all of the toads and peach are trapped in the walls =)
i feel weird about saying this, but a hat in time is a platformer we need i agree. but not necessarily the platformer i want. to explain. when i play a platformer im looking for just the sole experience of platforming. im not too focused on hub worlds and exploration. NOT THAT IT ISNT BAD but, a game like Super Mario 3D World, i've classed as one of if not my fav platformer cause its exactly what i want. and also bring mario 2D into true 3D. its sole focus on platforming has made some excellent level design and its one of my fav games. another good example would be Sonic Generations. all in all a hat in time is an excellent game that does what its going for well, but i dont think its necessary for all 3D platformers to go this route. its important to have variety in styles. great vid
I just bought this on PS4 and as a lifelong platformer fan I freakin love this game!!! Hat Kids adorable! I can't afford a Switch 😔 so looked for a quality 3D platformer on PS4 and I'm in love with it! Buy it FOOOOOOOOL! HAHAHA Oh wait it's u Lol
Great review except for the "obligatory" Yooka Laylee shade. Both games are great. As a Banjo fan I loved Yooka Laylee way more. But both are an amazing addition to 3D platformers :)
It wasn't obligatory. It was just a good comparison, since they're different sides of the same coin. For me, I just found the game to be barren and boring. A friend of mine described it as "soulless" and I agree. But I never grew up with Nintendo, so that includes Banjo, so I've never had a nostalgic attachment to the series. As I said in this video, If you like the game, that's fantastic! I'm glad you do! But I'm just saying I didn't and those are my thoughts on it. Just to clarify.
I said obligatory because every single review of A Hat in Time seems to do it. However, I understand your point. I hope both Playtonic and Gears for Breakfast continue to do games like these! :)

People have beaten it with the regular hat as well
it's absolutely infuriating but it's possible

game journalists are hackfrauds

You basically described ign
You can spell ignorance without ign

The second this is out on PS4, I'm there! I really want to play it now, but I don't know if my computer is good enough to run the game 🙁
Ospyro3em you need to have a 64 bit Windows, don't make the same mistake I did

ZeoLightning maybe the time rifts are more your cup of tea
Then "Bubsy: the wookies strike back" is the platformer we deserve

i did it without stopping time....just saying
Great review. Man I loved this game.
Did you ever play Tearaway Unfolded? Any 3d platformer fan should check it out.

I think Yooka-Laylee as a series has potential, I just didn't enjoy what they did with many of their design decisions.
Solid review
Better than other platformers this year? definitely. Better than mario odyssey? Maybe.... maybe not.

Thanks for stealing my footage. XD
It's fine though. Great commentary!
