- Celebrating 30 years of Nervous Records and Club Shelter in the Lab LDN
An icon of dance music since 1991, when he started his legendary Club Shelter events in New York City, Timmy Regisford has helped to pioneer the soulful house music sound that has influenced the current face of house music. The Shelter opened its doors following the closing of Paradise Garage and became a sanctuary for people to express themselves in which race and sexual orientation did not matter.
He has held various high profile positions in all areas of the music industry, having been A&R Director of Atlantic Records, Vice President of A&R at Motown Records, Vice President of A&R at Dreamworks Records and being credited for remix projects of music legends including The Boys, Diana Ross, Gerald Alston and Stevie Wonder.
This year marks 30 years of Nervous Records and 30 years of his Shelter brand. Recently, Timmy has produced sold out parties in New York, and has released a series of acclaimed compilations on Nervous Records entitled 'Soulful Respect'.

I remember being a young man fresh to death, smelling good, entering the Shelter for a spazz out til the early afternoon...dancing like my life depended on it with as many cuties as I could...Timmy was the Pastor in the Church of House...we didn't watch him...nor did we want to...we wanted to dance...dance...dance.. .I remember riding the Path train back to Newark NJ with my face looking like a salt field...others sprawled out all over the train seats...salt covered faces...THOSE WERE THE DAYS....THIS CROWD IS ASS...THEY NEED TO BUILD DJ BOOTHS AWAY FROM THE CROWD, OFF THE DANCE FLOORS SO THE PATRONS CAN FOCUS ON PARTYING AND NOT THEIR PHONES AND RECORDING THE DJ ALL NIGHT...GREAT MUSIC, ASS PARTY SCENE...
they trying brother... they r trying lol
Tarik!!!!!!!!! My brother from another mother! Me, you, Chino, Alex out till weeeee hours in the morning! My ears would hurt for 2 days from Shelter. I didn’t give a F! 🤣🤣🤣 That sound system at Shelter was the Truth!!! Timmy we Love You Bro! I am forever grateful to have experienced NYC nite life at its greatest! 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
@@djkjazz5050 lmao....different Tariq
I dont understand these new crowds... they literally crowd the DJ and just watch... if you dont get your azz on the dance floor and stop playing
Those days are gone because of smart phones. I always was interested in the DJ but only because I would later become a DJ. However, my true love was being on the dancefloor with the beautiful people dancing till the wee hours thanks to Junior and Danny back in the day.
This is too soulful for this crowd. NYC knows what to do when you play deep soulfulness we love you brother.
they just need to invite some dancers is all... the stand-around-and-act-cool-bottle-service-lets-get-waaaasted-crowd aint really going to get it... EDIT: But they are moving to the music, maybe i was a bit tough on them lol
NYC knows, se love Timmy
Here’s the thing. Back in the mid 90s there was a strong underground element who would dig soulful uplifting US ‘garage house’ but that crowd may have moved on to other things or simply was not there on Timmy’s night. I have always followed US deejays who play soulful uplifting ( what we called it in the 90s, for those in the know…) Soulful Garage House music with vocals because it was the music which had a feeling.
Bobby & Steve, Paula Trouble Anderson and a few others would spin vinyl like the New York Deejays and the dance floor would rock.
Today it is rare in London to here this and see people dance and not just stand there.
Glad to have experienced Timmy’s music
That's a whole factory!
They are so lost
Timmy is definitely legendary ! For my NYC peeps on this string, how blessed were we listening to Timmy back in the day on WBLS in NYC ? Timmy would have my radio on fire, live from the Shelter or The Red Parrot !
yaaassssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss! OMG thank you for that flashback✨
At the time when Timmy was hot, I was heavy into HOT-97. As I got older and changed to being a house head, He was one of the first Dj's I followed. Loved dialing into him when I was driving to the clubs late at night.
When Timmy started on W.B.L.S. way before the Shelter it was him and Merlin Bobb KILLING IT! on the after hour dance party Friday nights from 2 a.m. to 6 a.m. and sometimes Boyd Jarvis would be on the keyboards working it with them. I remember hanging in front of the Garage with a 90watt Sharp blasting Timmy and Merlin getting warmed up to hit the dance floor with Larry killing it inside. Those were the real club days and club radio that NYC was all about back in the days.
wow. The Red Parrot. haven't heard that name in a while. Timmy Regisford though, as usual on fire.
How many were blessed to dance in person 🙌🏼
living legend !! im 32 yars old and this man was my childhood HERO!!respect TIMMY!!
Timmy only warming up here, give him a few more hours and the whole place will be dancing like there is no tomorrow, Legend!, The Shelter was a home from home for me.
Living History! No other is like him in the world of House music. May God bless him to play till 100 yrs old!
Wow 100 years old I didn't know this???
May the Good Lord Keep him with us FOREVER!!!
I used frequent club shelter in NYC Timi was the best at his game where music was music back in the 80's late 90's... this is truly a treat for some of us who heard him play live at club shelter 😀😃🙂😀😃🙂
NYC was untouchable in the late 80s and 90s!! I transitioned out of hip hop (fun house-roseland ballroom-latin quarters),and took to house like a duck takes to water! Been a househead ever since!
@@KR8TZ you do sight the clubs of them days where unbelievable the new generation don't know what clubbing is now days is all about raves 🙄
@@scoobydoo6330 ..It's too expensive today...It used to cost less than 10 dollars to get into the best clubs on earth back in the day,and now it's like what four or five times that? 14 dollars to sit in front of Monique Bingham at Nells,7 dollars to holla at Madonna at the Red Zone!! I don't remember how much Roseland cost, but I could get back and forth to my house and the hit the club for less than fifteen dollars!....Good times, bruh!!
I'm not sure how so many people can be hearing this music and not be dancin their azz off to this True House Music experience!!!???
🎉🎉🎉
I love this Anita Baker mix by DJ Timmy Regisford. It actually brings tears to my eyes every time that I hear it!😍✌😘
I love Timmy he’s my Mentor I also play and use his style of playing every opportunity I get I go to see him play I’ve been rocking with him since his radio days on WBLS 107.5 THE MASTER OF THE RINGS 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I concur etfreeman1
🥰🥰🥰 Warms my heart to hear Lisa, Anita, Peven,MJ and the soulful list goes on! Soulful to the core!
OKAY!!! Lovin your list. You nailed it
Big up Regisford! Timmy's track picks are always incredible - every one a thriller winner for real dancers, but such a pity there weren't any in the building to appreciate the premium offerings from this legendary NYC's producer.
Timmy always on point. i loved the Shelter it was my home.
Man y’all ain’t never lied. Whenever I need my ears cleaned out I listen to a Timmy 🎶🎶🎶 set. Love the selections.
I always said Timmy is a master selector...
Timmy has been in this game for a long time, I've followed him for years. I love his choice in music. A true legend.
ティミーレジスフォードが来日した時は必ずクラブに行ってましたね。20代の頃の良い思い出。今でもあの頃のプレイスタイルだなんて感動です。yellowが懐かしいよ。Every time Timmy Regisford came to Japan, I went to a club. Good memories when I was in my twenties. I'm still impressed with Timmy’s playing same style at that time or now. I miss yellow.
I went to a Shelter night at Yellow Japan. End of the night he played fade turned off half way through and the crowd just sang it to the end. This was 2003. A magical night
Yellow!!!
what a dj!!! incredible
A great set by the Legendary Timmy Regisford. 30 years of House Music history.
You look and sound incredible Timmy ..... love, love and love
Love how he subtly mixes in the vocals on top of the rhythm tracks. ..my favorite mixing style and he is king! Makes me want to cry 😢!!! It's so fucking sweet. The mixing going on around 51:00. 52:30 and on...Sounds Wicked!
its a bit special that section isnt it.
Shots fired!!!! TIMMY KILLED IT!!!!🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Timmy Regisford ..NYC Soulful House Mixing at its finest!! This is what it is!!!!!
Wonderful set as always - Timmy's technique is so difficult to pull off, long transitions, 3/4 tracks playing at once without relying on auto-syncing technology. Tracks selected on the spot too.. Master
Only the real heads know! When he's on its 🔥🔥🔥🔥
i don't hear one spot where he has 4 songs playing at once, and neither do I hear 3 playing at once rarely at all. Could you time stamp them?
@@dpalaoro Without going through the whole set for you - 52:12 - DJ Clock, Rampa and something else coming in. His style is very creative and difficult to pull off - he is considered a legend for good reason.
Uhh , that is how us old school djs mix. It comes from Vinyl mixing. People should expect this not be amazed by it. Man the world has changed.
@@ronnellreffellable haha. I like how you say: "without going through the whole mix for you", yet the one you chose is at the 52 minute mark, which is halfway through the mix. And it's a poor example of "3 songs playing at once."
I'll wait for your 4 songs playing once example. lol
I heard him do a 4 hour set at Cedar Grove Park in Plainfield NJ on 9/17/22 and he absolutely killed it. He didn't play alot of soulful house. He played the hard tracks and afro house!!
When I heard him in Manhattan in the aughts ☢️, yes was mostly harder and progressive-ish yet funky dubs & vocals, and nothing mainstream whatsoever it was like, where is this Music coming from? Magic ✨
Gotta love the selection of music.. I'm vibing I can feel the music!! Greatness at work!!!!
I truly adore Timmy Regisford!😘
LEGEND!!!! We love you Timmy….We need your music!!!! Stay true. Greece loves you

Timmy we love you!!We are waiting for you again at Cariocas Beach bar in Greece
I'm from Mexico City. I have been in NYC twice. The first time in 2012 I went to The Shelter Party @ Vandam St. and then went back in 2015 to hear Timmy Regisford but now @ 42nd St. Both were great parties!.
Nice to see a crowd not on their phones and actually paying attention to each track and sound manipulation from the one and only Timmy Regisford. Only smiles and good vibes!
RESPECT
No Words To Described How Good This Is 👌🙏🏼🕺🏿🕺🏿🕺🏿🔥🔥🔥👌.
Mister Mike Nervous with the hat on behind Timmy, legendary as well !! Been promoting house forever... Great set Timmy !!
If that was in NYC mad baby powder on the floor and we alllllllll getting it in HARD!!!!! As soon as you walk in it’s like that !!!!! Go TRINI!!!!!!!!!! You make me Proud!!!!!!

GOAT! His flow is smooth into transitions, his choices makes sense! There's YT audio of LEGEND TIMMY REGISFORD djing HOUSE MUSIC on WBLS in 1985 which is NY's only long standing BLK owned radio station! The audio shows you that his flow remains SUPREME ❣
So good seeing Timmy Regisford man I got emotional

GREETINGS , HUG
RAFAEL
Yes there is certain elegance in house music. I think it's the jazz elements and piano riffs and the background chords.
Tim is an absolute weapon
This blend at 29:52 is sick!!!!!
Maestro
Remember Him From 84 King Street
Always In The Booth With Levan
That's how it's done do your thing Timmy 🎶🔥✨

There will never be another have been following him from birth 50+++ years to the last days of the real Shelter and the final dance @Varick/Hudson Street..Know your history...Embrace history....peace & love.
love how hes still using CD's !!!
Anytime u see a DJ pull up to the booth with a book of CDs these days you know it's gonna be 🔥 🔥 🔥.
How many do that today?
AWESOME GROOVES THANX, SO BIG UP
First time I seen him with his shirt on on a full set....😊
I was just thinking the same thing. You know Timmy is really in the zone when the shirt comes off. 🔥🔥🔥
lol!
LMAO
Legend! 1:22:00 is out of this world. His remix of Know what love is should be on 30 years of Shelter part 2 on Nervous records I believe.
Yes .. Nothing like NYC house.. miss those club days..
In 1987 when the Garage closed, which i didn’t know as I left NY in 1985! So, on coming back home, my main Question was; where to Dance Now! Shelter was opened for a while when a friend told me about the Shelter! I had found my Place!
The Shelter was the club I was waiting for after the Garage closed,The fact it was Timmy’s place sealed it for me ALL in since 1991 😎🙌🏾👊🏾
@@FSonic-r4i Didn’t He DJ on the Radio… BLS? Or was it KTu? Honestly, that Whole Era is a Blur! LOL!
@@br.anthonyhamilton2286 Timmy was brought in by Frankie Crocker @ WBLS where he ended up as Music Director.Performed the WBLS dance party with the great Boyd Jarvis on keyboards.Ground breaking stuff!😎👍🏾
Now this is djing.. Woooo.. I miss the shelter..Timmy is a BEAST
Holy living fck. Just listened to one of his early 90's Shelter tapes yesterday while strolling thru my collection. Then I came back here to replay the true magic.
such a legend!
Massive! 💯💯💯
The mix starting at 28:22 is SICK... and I REALLY LOVE when a DJ mixes in a track that, at first glance, seems to not make sense...it seems incongruous...and yet, it totally works! I'm talking 'bout 29:53 in particular, and where Timmy mixes in some 'I Wanna Know What Love Is' by Foreigner... with that other driving beat playing in the background.... Amazing!!!
Watching a master at Work
Going to sf in the 90s as a teenager was insane... but then i discovered shelter with timmy from 98-02 😍😍😍 next level shit
