That’s a great question and I’m glad someone asked! I’ll say this, it definitely still plays well but it’s showing some play wear. Despite constant cleaning and polishing, it’s a bit tarnished and some plating has worn off. Another thing, it may just be me, but the intonation in the higher register isn’t what it used to be. Until I can buy myself a substantial CC tuba, this is what I got. I still use it quite a lot but I have found myself using my old Yamaha 103 a bit more. It’s been holding up though.
It’s definitely a good starter horn. I will say, later down the line (3 years or so) you might want to switch to a more professional horn. But it can be a good starter.
Nice review Zak! Based choice of intro music and that tuba sounds really good! Definitely fuller in the lower register than I expected of a 3/4 Chinese-made tuba, but it helps to have a set of chops like yours. I have some work to do on my tuba chops. EDIT: the Jupiter I reviewed and uploaded today also has a *very* short pull on the 1st slide. Does the 3rd slide give you more leeway? I found that to be a better option on the Jupiter.
Thanks for the comment. I will say the amount of slide you get from the other valves is slightly more than the first. The third and fourth valve slides in particular are quite long but not as long as they could’ve been. Thanks again for watching!
How has this horn held up for you in the year since you posted this video?

I’m buying this horn and I wanted to get a look at what I was getting before hand :) thank you.

I wanted a tuba so bad since graduating in May 2019 😭 I love that instrument.
