You rock! So informative I have a goodman furnace and compressor Makes the loud buzzing sound while running. There are a few within a few blocks of my home snd they seem loud too. One if my friends said goodmans are notoriously loud. Is that true. Its about 72-78 db Working well and cooling the home Should I swap out contact or just leave it? And bad capacitor wouldn’t make the buzzing sound right? Keep up the great work my friend!
Hi. From what I understand, the contactor can cause the humming noise. I would replace that first. But if you know you have a bad capacitor, it would be good to swap that out. I don't have a goodman compressor so I can't confirm if they are loud when running. Good luck
The compressor was the cause of the noise, more than likely there was a voltage issue cause by the bar contacter and preventing the compressor from fully cycling
You can not change a contactor unless you cut the thermostats off. 24 volts come to the contactor even if the switch is pulled and main ac power turned off. It's funny that the camera cut power and you didn't record the contactor change. Very odd ! You would have gotten shocked if the thermostat activated.
If you turn the power off from the braker. There would be no power coming to the unit. I mentioned that in the video to turn the power off from the braker panel and make sure there's no power coming into the unit.
Saved me $600. Thanks man!

The loud hum at the start is definitely the compressor motor. It is either jammed or the compactor is dead
Could you tell where the noise was coming from originally, the compressor or the contact you replaced?

01:29 That is not a "humming"... that is a BUZZ. Hum= compressor. Buzz= electrical.
My new ac condenser sometimes does this

Working on ac units you need to know what your doing just changing parts is not wise. Occasionally parts changers get lucky
