I bought a Tecomec blade balancer (made in italy).. It looks identiacal to the Oregon balancer.. but more importantly t It does no woble one bit, it sees wery well constructed. (and gives cosistent results). I bought it on eBay for 85$ + tax and shipping to Norway.. the genuine one from Oregon is between 104 and a 134$ + shipping/tax.. so it's possible to find a dement knickoff of theis balancer, but from what I see here ones is should definently avoid the wery cheepest ones..
I had the wobble on my knock off balancer and found the problem was the nut and washer in the back side of the plate. The nut was a cheap nut that could not be tightened, So I took the nut and flat washer to the hardware store and matched the tread size and picked up the better made nut. also got a couple of matching flat washer because I was going to double up on the washers for better strength. Put on the new locking nut and was able to get the shaft tight. I used a 8mm socket and a 6mm open end wrench to tighten the nut, on the shaft there is two flats to hold the shaft from turning during tightening the nut, NO MORE WOBBLE. The balancer works great now,
I am glad you were able to salvage the balancer. I just sent mine back. When we buy something, we should not have to repair it like that. However, when you look at the big picture you did indeed save money by purchasing the cheaper option and it sounds like it was a fairly easy fix.
If you look at this (and the Oregon version) there is a screw from the backside holding the shaft to the plate. Tighten this up and it would have been fine.
Was about to buy one, further researching reviews said that it wasn’t all that great, however your vid, holy crap it is junk. That wobble you showed, wasn’t shown in other videos. Deffo avoiding the knock off now! Zero ounce of accuracy there
Obviously genius, there’s something wrong with either the shaft or the bearing fit apparently that’s a QC issue and I’d send it back but as far as knock off one doing the job just as well as the Oregon one they’re identical that’s not that’s not made right something is definitely wrong with it don’t even know why you made a video showing that obviously there’s a problem with it you should’ve sent it back
That is what I eventually did. I stated in the video I was going to throw it in the trash, but a cooler head prevailed, and I decided to send it back. lol
Years ago I purchased an Oregon balancer and have had only great results ever since. I do not remember how much I spent. I do remember how much I saved each season sharpening and balancing my blades.
Yeah, throw it in the trashcan. That’s the smart thing to do . Never seen one in person, but I’m sure there’s a couple bearings or at least one bearing on a shaft in there with a nut on it. Obviously, the nut came loose during shipment and the bearing slid out of the fit just a little bit where it wobbles on the shaft Or whatever the case may be, I can’t see it from here but If you can’t figure out how to tighten it up a little bit and adjust it properly to make it work right maybe you should stick to the nail in the wall method that might be more your speed.
Quality will be remembered long after price is forgotten.
I will remember that

I thought I was going to need to trash the one I had purchased but fortunately Amazon gave me the option to retun it.

I was very disappointed. I plan to order the original Oregon at some point and do another video.
Rick can't you return via Amazon?
Thanks for mentioning that, I just called and yes, I can.

I did not see any sort of adjustment available; I did however wind up sending it back.
Thanks so much! I was about to order a knockoff one from eBay.
If you get the new one, could you post an update?
Yes, at some point I plan to get one, that will make a good video, thanks for the suggestion
I got fooled too, I'm sending the cheap Chinese knock off back for a refund.

Buy the best and cry once!
so true

fortunately, I was able to return the knock off.
Great Video. I was looking at one of these. Now, it has tuned in to why the knock-offs should be avoided.
I was watching a video, and some guy was on there saying the knock offs were just as good LOL
