Super helpful. Thanks a lot Ahsan. Could you please show me the document showing that we are not obliged to file a tax declaration for the following years once we filed this year ? (For voluntary tax declare)
Its very difficult to prove a negative. There are conditions which make you obliged to file a tax return. You can view them here : ahsanfinance.com/how-to-submit-a-tax-return-in-germany/
I file my tax returns every year via SteuerGo, however last yr the money I got back was too less (about 150 EUR) compared to what SteuerGo had calculated (about 1700 EUR). I was wondering if you had any idea of what causes such descripencies? Normally, I was always getting back the amount as per SteuerGo calculation. Last year was an exception. Another question: can a tax adviser look into my last year’s filing ?
Yes, you have 1 month to file an objection on the tax return. So its better to first analyse the tax assesment yourself and see if they have rejected an important claim. If you don't understand anything then it could be a good option to let a professional have a look.
@@ahsanfinance I was referring to my 2021 assessment which I filed in June 2022, so the one-month time window has already passed. Is there any provision to file an objection now?
The window is 1 month after you Receive the Tax Statement. So if you got the assessment for 2021 in 1st Feb 2024, then you still have 1 month to object. You can contact a lawyer as they might find a legal reason specific to your case.
Hi Ahsan, I filed tax returns for two of my clients and from which I got refund for one client within 3 months after notice of submitting some documents, whereas for the other client, it has been 6 months and still neither received any notice nor refund.. Is this normal? I mean I should wait till 8 months ? or shall I send a mail for a status ?
Hi Ahsan, your videos are a life saver for expats! Clear explanation as always!! I have a question related to loss carry forward. I would like to file a tax return for 2020 mainly to create a loss carry forward for the tuition fees that I paid ( I did not have a job during that year). Can I do this using smart Steuer or Wundertax applications ? And can this loss carry forward be used in 2023, while claiming a refund?
Hi Ahsan, Thanks a lot for the informative video. I have a question. I am planning to file my mandatory tax return for the year 2022 with the help of a certified tax advisor before the deadline. But I am not currently living in Germany and don't have an active German bank account anymore. Can I still file a tax return?
Hello Ahsan, Thanks for the clarification on the tax return. I am a student and I filed my tax return for last year in which I also added some travel expenses, tuition fees and other expenses. But I only received the Steuer tax. They sent me a letter and listed all the expenses they calculated and in the end they issued a tax return of zero euros excluding Steuer tax. Do you know why they did like this..
You only get the Income tax back. But if your claimable expenses are more than the income tax you have paid, you get a tax loss certificate which you can use in the following years tax return.
Hello, thank you for the video. I’m a student in Germany since 2021, and never filled taxes, and now want to file this year. I am thinking of using Wundertax. Should I apply for each year in wundertax or can I apply at once itself. If I apply each year then should I pay 35 euros every time? Thank you
@ahsanfinance hope u r doing fine. I have never applied tax return before. Although I m working full time since 2017. I got married in 2022 and changed my tax class to 3/5. Can I apply tax return for previous 4 years together? Or I m in trouble as I got married in 2022 and didnt apply for tax return till now.. please guide.
For 2022 and 2023 you can only apply with the help of a tax professional. I would recommend you hire one immediately as you might get fined for not declaring your taxes while being obliged.
Hi I am a student in germany and I need to file a tax return I had Lohnsteuerbescheinigung 2023 from the employer. Could you recommend which was the best way to submit the tax return through elstr or wundertax or consulting any agent??
Hello sir I have been in tax class 6 since more than 5 months although I am doing one job only. I went to finanzamt and they told me my manager is responsible to change my tax . But my manager is not doing it. I have been paying tax as tax class 6 but I am doing only one job. What should I do in this case? Can I get tax return
Hi, if I’m declaring my taxes using forms, how/where do I fill in the expenses like relocation costs, work travel etc. is there a separate form for filling in the expenses? If yes what’s the form name. Thank you
Hello, can someone help me? I'm really disappointed with my tax return for the year 2023. I applied through the taxfix app, and it showed me a return of around 480€, thought I work full time. Now when the result is here, it is -166€ which means I'd be paying more tax rather than getting any. What might be the issue?? Can I apply for an appeal?
Well you can read the tax assessment and see why you have gotten this result. As far as the appeal is concerned, yes you can file one within 1 month of receiving the tax assessment notice.
Bro is it true that when an unmarried blue card holder files tax return in his first year, he gets most of his income tax back? My friend got back 3800 Euro
Well it doesn't work like that. Tax Returns are simply reduction of taxes with valid work or study related expenses. Your friend might have shown a large number of deductible expenses, thats why he got a huge tax refund
Hi brother, i apply for my Tex return for 2023, but it’s showing very less amount, (around 300 euro ), I paid my all Tex’s why it is less brother? Please reply
Hi Brother (@ahsanfinance), I followed your video and was able to file tax via smart stuer. Now I have received a letter from Finanzem -> WA - EST 2023 - further information and applications in cases with a foreign connection. Is it something I should worry?

I am assuming you are filing from outside Germany?
@@ahsanfinance Yes correct
Well it can take up to a year if the case is complicated
Is a smart watch something that could also be deductible?
Unlikely, only if you show it is absolutely required for your job or studies.

Hi @ahsanfinace
If some one is a student for 6 months and full time for other 6 months? How should he mention that? Thanks
If you were a student for 6 months then file the taxes as an Employee, and add study expenses in its respective section

Yes you have to apply for each year individually. If you wish to use wundertax you can buy a multi year bundle which would be cheaper

hi Ahsan, Thanks for nice information. I have a question. As I dont earn money with my broker in 2023, do I need to claim it in tax declaration?
If there was no profit then you don't have to mention it there, but its always better to include all the details

If its a german broker then no disadvantage

Are you filing out physical forms or using Elster?

I am not quite sure what that form is called. You can use Elster.de to check which form can be used for what expense
