Ann Wilson turned in that performance at 62, and recovering from a cold...
Wow. Just, wow.
Legends honoring legends in a room full of legends.
Well said
That says it all.
Rock legends honoring rock Gods.
Great comment 😊
They had to cut to Yo Yo Ma a couple of times during the guitar solo so that those who thought that Yo Yo was playing guitar, would know that he was actually in the audience. I don't know who that is on guitar, but he bears a slight resemblance to Yo Yo. I'd like to see them side by side with the guitar player wearing glasses. 🙂
Rock legends playing for Rock Gods and Rock Gods Give A standing ovation to rock legends As Robert Plant shedding tears
It was an amazing compliment, but had a lot to do with Jason on drums and all those bowler hats. He and Jason's Dad were best friends.
To play that in front of not just Paige, Plant, and JPJ, but all of the other “celebrities” in that crowd is simply amazing! This maybe the greatest “cover” of all time!!!
@@rebeccalipps23 absolutely excellent! And I know the guys from Led Zeppelin know how much we cherish their music they'd given us over so many years, but there is something just so heartwarming seeing the smiles on their faces as they witness what HAS to be the best cover of their classic song, you know they realize how wonderful it is.... chokes me up every time I watch this... god bless them and what they've given us...bless JPJ and John Bonham, we miss you guys
( and holy cow, towards the end there when Jason looks up towards the heavens there sort of as to say 'how was that pop?'.... man right in the deep feels ..... )
"Paige"???????
it is and who has the balls to cover Led?
It is
Amen
I heard that the group invited Jason to the event and he faked another commitment and surprised them on-stage as the drummer.
Yes. I read that he was asked by the guys to represent his dad, and he said he was busy. They didn’t know until that moment that he would be standing in for his dad, literally.
62 tear old Ann showed the kids how to do it . Rock Goddesses playing for the Rock God's and they nailed it.
Only band worthy of covering Led Zeppelinh
LOL. silly comment bruh. Nobody is truly worthy.
It doesn’t matter how many times I see this performance…… I get chills all over my body and tears in my eyes. Every. Single. Time.
I’m a 62 year old black guy and this makes me cry every single time.
56 year old white guy right there with you!
63 year old white lady, same here, every time.
Yep, another 56 year old reduced to a whimper over here!
50 y/o here. Always choke me up.
I agree completely!!!
Why is watching this so emotional?!!!!
'I know it's only Rock and Roll but I like it like it yes I do'
Music can be a very powerful thing!!.
This wasn't a cover....................................it was a compliment!
Heart absolutely killed it awsome
When you get a standing ovation from led Zeppelin you know you must have done something right
Page's enthusiasm is endearing, and Plant is clearly overcome with emotion. Two very different and beautiful reactions to a very special moment.
Plant misses his friend
Qhen he teared up he was thinking of his best friend John Bonham as he watched Jason John's son and his godson play his dad's drum kit
That was just out-freaking-standing
I never get tired of seeing this tribute. For me, it’s the choir and the strings and horns that really elevate this. A beautiful tribute to LZ.
Could you imagine playing Jimmy Pages solo in front of him???? Man respect for that kid…. He did a great job!
Well he’s not a kid, he is 70 yrs old himself and knows the band members quite well. He is a mad guitarist in his own right, that’s why page was loving it so much.
Wow, just wow. I think Robert Plant was trying to hold it together. Bless him
I love the cut to Yo-Yo Ma in the audience (world’s greatest Cellist) during the guitar solo. Talent appreciating talent.
The camera panned to Bonnie Raitt during the performance too
@@rubroken I believe I also caught Debbie Allen and Jimmy Kimmel?
@@sebastianblack6506 This video was shortened(I don't know why), in the full version I think I saw Steven Colbert and his wife
The saxophonist was Blue Lou Marini (Blues Brothers Band).
luv that too...he's totally rocking out.
Anne was born to sing this song, she brought Robert to tears singing his own song.
Plus....the coolest president and first lady watching the coolest band being honored.
👍❤🤙
When Robert tears up,
I tear up. He said he was thinking of Bonzo during the performance.
🙌 this 64-year-old Brit Led Zep fan's eyes are filled with tears - what a time to be alive! Well done America back in the time before alternative facts...
Wow!
The bowler hats worn by the choir was a tribute to Bonham, who wore them extensively during the late 1970's tours. Jason was also a surprise guest, and he played his dad's kit. Best Stairway cover I've ever heard, and fitting it came from Heart, who were heavily influenced by Zeppelin.
I believe Ann Wilson was 62 years old and battling the flu when she belted out this song. Accolades to everyone who was a part of this outstanding tribute!
Masterpiece performance ❤️👍
In the words of Che..."I enjoy watching them enjoy it"
We feel the same way watching you all on your channel.
One of my favorite live performances ever
Ann and Nancy have been Zep fans from the beginning. Ann's singing style has been called the "female version of Robert Plant" in the past and Heart would regularly sprinkle Zep songs in their concerts. I saw Heart in concert several years ago and recall they played Battle of Evermore and I think a couple of other Zep numbers. As someone else mentioned, when Robert invited Jason to be his guest at the honors, he had to pretend he couldn't make it - because he was performing in it! That's why Robert stood up in surprise and pointed at Jason when he was introduced. Also, as others have mentioned, the bowler hat was a nod to Bonham's occasionally dressing onstage as one of Stanley Kubrick's "droogs" from his film adaptation of the book A Clockwork Orange. The look consisted of a white boiler suit and black bowler hat - google "John Bonham droog" and you'll see pictures. This performance was the best cover of Stairway that can ever be done.
Great pics out there of Keith Moon sitting down at a kit with a 3-4 year old Jason Bonham. If only…
For all of my life, I'd said no one should ever cover Stairway To Heaven. Then I saw this. Now I say no one except Ann and Nancy should ever cover Stairway To Heaven.
They knew what they were doing picking Heart to do that song ♡♡♡♡♡ Legends ♡ All around
FYI - This clip was the edited version that was played on TV. The producers in their infinite stupidity cut the song down. However, the good thing is that the full length version of the song is also on RUclips...somewhere.
I believe they cut out the 'bustle in your hedgerow' verse.
this is an even more edited one than the original edited one... how many re-edits are there? This has to be the worst one I've seen so far...so much of the emotion was lost...they even remixed a butchered a lot of the audio in this one.
Apparently Plant invited Jason B to come with them to the event but he had to decline cause he had a prior engagement. This performance was his prior engagement so Plants enthusiasm at see Jason was real and a shock in the best possible way. If you get a chance find Jack Blacks homage speech to Zeppelin from the same event. Fucking hilarious and heart felt👍👍🙏
So cool. I didn't know that about J.B and his prior engagement! So funny!
I saw Robert Plant with Alison Krauss in Taos NM 3 weeks ago. Imagine a few Led Zeppelin songs played in the rockabilly style. Sold out show in a small park.
I was introduced to heart back in the early
I was introduced to heart back in the early seventies I always thought that and Wilson had a fantastic voice
Seeing lenny kravitz walk of stage in the start, think he did "Whole Lotta Love"
Maybe try that one.
At 62 and 58, Ann and Nancy proved they were still the best badass women in rock. I prefer this to the LZ original. Did you notice Yo Yo Ma in the audience, rocking out during the electric guitar solo?
I've probably watched this 100 times, but every time the backdrop lifts and the big choir kicks in, I still get chills. Such an amazing tribute.
Same with me, my friend
About 10 years ago in San Francisco Heart played with Jason Bonham Band opening the show doing a Led Zep tribute show. Ann & Nancy cane out and a few acoustic Zep song. Very Cool
Could it be the best live recording of "Stairway To Heaven" ever ? Yes ! Kudos to Heart & Jason Bonham R.I.P. John Bonham Kudos to Robert Plant Jimmy Page. John Paul Jones Led Zeppelin greatest UK Band Ever
The greatest cover ever. Period. Goosebumps
This shortened version of the performance is good. The full performance of song is even better. They cut out a verse and part of lead in this version. Not sure why. Showed some other celebs in audience jamming to this tribute
Heart usually covers some Zep songs in their concerts, like Rock N Roll! You must do a Heart deep dive, they have decades of material and it's interesting to see how they change with the times but still sound amazing! Love you guys!
Heart played this in concert when I saw them a few years ago and KILLED IT!
Ann Wilson was 62 when she gave this performance...!
Epic
I love the look on their faces watching their song being preformed as a tribute to the great music they made. Heart killed it.
If you want to get a good laugh,
Honest Composer Reacts is one of the best.
Loved it!
She's in her 70's. xo :* She's Ann Wilson. Absolutely legendary, in her own right.
ty4this
I tear up every time i watch this Greatness all around
The Best Going!!! Excellent Work!!! Many Thanks.... BEST COVER EVER... NO DOUBT!!!!!!!
✌✌🌍🌎🌏✌✌
60+ and to be able to sing like that ... just amazing.
I don’t think anyone had ever covered a Les Zeppelin song before! Heart was fantastic
This never gets old. 62 yo Nancy belting it out. The choir, orchestra, the guy who plays the forbidden riff in front of THE Jimmy Page.
The entire production was superb! Hats off to everyone on and creating behind that stage!!
Ann's singing, Nancy's playing her guitar -- both fabulous
I get a chill every time I watch this.
Ann and Nancy were heavily influenced by Zeppelin, and were terrified doing this song. They didn't want to screw it up in front of their idols.
In fact over their career they've covered a number of Zeppelin tunes. I saw them cover "Rock n Roll" way back on August 16th 1977, the day Elvis died. It was the last song of the encore and they dedicated it to the King.
Just a little bit of pressure there, nailed it.
❤❤❤
A SPECTACLE! Unbelievable cover of a giant song...
I get a kick every time I see Yo Yo Ma briefly grooving to the instrumental. Cool to see a trained classical virtuoso enjoying such a high level of musicianship.
You have the highest quality audio and video on RUclips.
Thank you sir!! We appreciate it.
This performance is INCREDIBLE!
LED ZEPPELIN's 2007 award show. Hearts version of the track gradually grew to include a string section, a horde of backup singers and
the Joyce Garrett Youth Choir. Jimmy Page, Robert Plant and John Paul Jones sat watching from the balcony and were visibly moved, particularly Plant, who had tears welling up in his eyes. Seeing John's son (Jason) on the drums, and everyone wearing the bowler hat to honor John Bonham was the emotional icing on the cake of a beautiful performance. Great reaction, guys.
Its a great cover for sure, without a doubt, but I chuckle when people say this is better than live Zeppelin from back in the day. Juss' sayin, keepin' it real.
Yes, it brought tears to Robert's eyes. Many people get this wrong about why he cried - it was not bc of them doing the song well, nor bc Heart is awesome, etc.
John Bonham wore a black bowler (derby hat) on Led Zeppelin's 1975 Tour. When the curtain came up in the back of the stage - the whole choir was wearing bowlers.
It reminded Robert of his best friend, John Bonham, and his death. Bonzo's death being heartbreaking and such a senseless loss.
Robert even said that years afterwards. Anyone who knows Led Zeppelin quite well - knew why Robert cried in that moment and knew exactly what he was thinking about.
Robert missed his friend, John, terribly. Bonzo was the one from the group, along with his wife, Patricia, who spent a lot of time comforting Robert after his son, Karac, died on July 26th, 1977 - during their mammoth 1977 US tour, which cut it short.
I've been waiting years for one of the Zeppeliners to break down and cry re the passing of John Bonham. ❤💔❤️
Don't know if this was already mentioned, but Ann Wilson was 62 at the time of this tribute, and she was fighting the flu. What a set of pipes! I've seen this countless times, and it still gives me chills.
Bonzo Jr. on the drum kit.
OMG I can't wait to watch this!!
(It wasnt as good as I thought it was going to be)
Best cover of any song ever!
Made it her own, damn near; is right! Stellar performance! Lenny Kravitz rendition of "Whole Lotta Love" is also killer during these Kennedy Center honors and Jack Black gave a hilarious intro to the festivities, as well. Great reaction guys!
this guy right here
Steven Tyler ( Abby Road Medley) Kenedy Center Honors Paul McCartney 2010
Also Epic. A must reaction!!
The finest tribute ever . Just look at the reactions from Zeppelin … Simply beautiful …Love the Kennedy Centre Honors and as a Zep fan since the 70,s could not be more proud ..
it's so absurd how phenomenal this performance is
Heart inducting them was no accident. They met Led Zeppelin while both were in concert in Seattle in 1977. Both Bands became close, and kept in touch during the next 35 years or so.
So many elements to this…the orchestra, the choir, Jason Bonham…..and The Wilson sisters are simply magical and huge Zeppelin fans for decades!
They have the best live version of Rock And Roll outside of Led Zeppelin….recorded many years ago and periodically heard on AOR radio stations.
They also have a live rendition of The Battle Of Evermore from 2012, I think it was, where Ann plays acoustic guitar (I didn’t know until I saw that that she even played an instrument) and Nancy plays the mandolin… It’s really very good!
Ann's voice has matured nicely. She was 62 years old when this was performed (2012). She still had it, for sure.
IMO, the greatest cover ever done live !!!
The Wilson sisters , Jason Bonham and others destroy it! Man that was legendary
The drummer is the son of the late John Bonham, Jason Bonham. Sounds exactly like dad. He had a good teacher since childhood.
Man when Ann hits that long run on the rock and not roll at the end,I mean holly crap it doesn’t get much better !
I've been waiting for this!!! Thank you!!
Same night . . . Lenny Kravitz did "Whole Lotta Love" and Kid Rock did "Ramble On." ALSO THAT NIGHT . . . Beth Hart and Jeff Beck did "I'd Rather Go Blind" in tribute to Buddy Guy.
and all those covers you named were all better than this performance, easily.
Jeff was supposed to play Jimmy Page's solo, but played with Beth Hart on I'd Rather Go Blind. This whole show was killer!!!
Possibly the most unforgettable performances of all time.
Zeppelin got to know Heart in the 70s whole on the road. They were notoriously grumpy about other bands playing Stairway, which was the biggest song in the world at the time. When they witnessed Heart cover the song, they were impressed and gave their blessing.
Love the Wilson sisters. Their chance to pay tribute to one of their primary music idols, the other being the Beatles, is difficult enough without having them present during such a prestigious event. But they capitalized on the moment with one the most stellar performances, as you can tell by the response by the band.
Now, take a moment and listen to them blast away on a cut from their album, Bebe Le Strange, called EVEN IT UP. You'll enjoy it very much.
Plant has said that they forgot to invite Jason and at the last minute called him and he said he couldn't make it. So seeing him up there playing on Bonzo's drum-kit and wearing his Bolo hat must have been pretty emotional.
Plant is Jason’s godfather.
Plant said he doesn't like hearing Zeppelin covers, especially Stariway, but he said this one moved him to tears.
The Lenny Kravitz performance of "Whole Lotta Love" from this is excellent. Plus you get to see a former President mouthing the words "Want a whole lotta love"...
YES!!!!!!!! I've been waiting for you guys to do this one!!!! Looking forward to seeing it...(especially with the way you love and respect Led Zeppelin!)!!
Have an awesome (and safe) 4th!!!! Keep up the great work!!! 😎😎
Plant lost his son and Bonham was there for him. And when Bonham died Plant has been there for his son Jason!
Plant is Jason’s godfather.
A tribute worthy of Led Zeppelin.
Love this performance. So many there to honor the best band ever!!! Ann and Nancy killed it! Thank you
Great Reaction Guys !!!!
An amazing honorarium from the incredible Wilson sisters & Jason, to one of the greatest metal rock bands of all time. Thanks much for reaching to it.
They talked about it on the Letterman show - so their reactions are out there.
Best tribute video of Best Band and #BestSongofAllTime with my best reactors #AirplayBeats so good... I tear up every time I watch this one, thanks for not stopping it in the middle too... thumbs up and shared of course, thanks ya'll
LOVE your reactions to Robert, Jimmy and John's reactions...
At 54 and growing up on both their music, it chokes me up a bit every time.
Man, I got so emotional when ever I see this performance !!! Only Ann and Nancy Wilson could pull this off !! The arrangements were sick with the addition of a Full choir is superb !!! Mad respect for the Wilson girls !!!!
Glad to see you got here after hearing Heart and Led Zeppelin build their careers. Love this journey ❤️there is more- Lenny Kravitz and Foo Fighters do songs as well. Heart closed the show as only they could do it. ❤️
Can you imagine standing in front of your heroes singing their masterpiece........whew! But they killed it ✌️p.s. the guy in the back playing acoustic guitar is Kyle Gass one half of tenacious d with Jack Black ✌️
I love that Jason, John Bonham’s son, was on drums for that tribute to his dad- the greatest drummer in rock history
That’s what gets me every time..
For me this will be the MOST "ICONIC VERSION" EVER of that SONG!!! 😍🔥🤯🎸
Heart did a kick-ass cover of Rock and Roll too, back in the day. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
