I have the purple/black extra and I love it! I also can see why this guitar wouldn’t be for everyone. Also yes QC is an issue sometimes, I got lucky and love mine.
After watching your video I’m going to tear mine down and give it a good cleaning and thorough once over and make any changes/improvements I need to. I really am happy with it but it really could use a good cleaning and polishing on the frets/fretboard. I’m going to check for left behind tape as well now😂
He seems to be moaning for the sake of it. I have one and the pups are fantastic as is the build quality for this price point, you may get the odd niggle but it's still worth every penny in my opinion.
got my Extura today as B-Stock. Stunning Axe. Had to tighten the Tuner's Nuts and that was about it. No Flaws No Nothing. Plays like a dream, PUs are inline, I personally don't care about some inches Difference in Knob-Body Distance, the Neck plays like cream and I really love the modern Fishman Tone, never had those and with Neural Nolly I'm squishing my Face 😂
I bought one online recently and it didn't really have any issues... My biggest complaint is that the pick-ups sound incredibly average and the tone difference from the push/pulls is really not noticeable. Honestly probably gonna remove them and put a Seymour in the bridge and whatever else in the neck. Shame, bc I really like the look of the ones it comes with.
wow, sorry you got a turd, i bought all 4 of them from sweetwater a few months ago and have nothing bad to say about mine. I havent opened up any of the compartments and have no intentions to as to me as long as it plays well and looks good i am good with it.
"No big deal this is a cheap guitar after all" well yeah compared to gibson and other overpriced brands probably yes but i would not call a 900 dollar guitar "cheap", for the money the quality is absolute shit
Yeah I have to agree on that. Nearly 1000 dollars is not cheap and mainly young musicians buy this, meaning the 1k price tag hurts even more... without a case too. I am comparing it to lets say the 1000 series of LTD and the 1200-1300$ Schecters. Its cheaper compared to them.
@@GeorgeVGuitars they are still active pickups which i use. ceramics are what im after, a hotter pickup for what i play. i dont use alnico in my current guitars but yes i know about fishmans. gibson/epiphone clearly still stick to their rock n roll roots and havent changed to us hardcore metal guys. but i have found my answer elsewhere and both pickups are alnico so i would have to spend additional money to change to modern fluences which in my opinion should be an option from the factory. maybe im just being too picky and then maybe not as ive been an emg guy forever and want to try fishmans.
Hm not that it's bigger than the explorer. The body shape is slightly different. Im not sure if it will fit the vases cut for the explorer body. Best go with a universal case that is not cut to a specific body shape.
Right now im chosing between this one and epiphone ebony explorer, which would be no brainer if only the ebony model would not have that pickguard, yes its for some reason important for me xD
@@GeorgeVGuitars Basically :D, but im not that patient so im probably just gonna buy the extura in black and hope its gonna arrive in good condition and not with some cracks or super sharp-too long frets or something, kinda sad being afraid of buying instrument for 900 dollars and being worried about it being in good shape when u can get better quallity guitars for like 400-500 dollars if you know where to look...
@George V Guitars thanks alot man, just ordered a pair of 57/66. By the way, my extura is pretty much flawless. Just had to set it up. It's probably the best guitar I've ever had. Really comfortable to play both sitting and standing
We'll see about that. I got a yellow tiger, yellow v and 3 LP Prophecies coming soon. If that is bad too, I think it is safe to say a lot of them have problems.
The other one might have the same issues, or even worse. Keep in mind the Extura and the 58' Explorer are quite different from each other. What kind of music do you want to play? The extura is quite modern feeling and sounding. The pickups on the 58' Explorer are pretty soft and the neck is chunky.
If you spend this much on a guitar you only get what you pay for... maybe spend 4 or 5k and you won't notice anything.. people don't want to spend money but want top notch stuff .. that's not how this works
Among all the things that you pointed out, most are superficial, with the exception of the wavy heel, which is unacceptable at the price range……… There are Harley Bentons that are half the price with no wavy heel.
That heel is absolutely ridiculous and borderline offensive. I've never seen something like that before on a guitar straight out of the factory and I've worked in several music stores in the past. I bought a Firefly flying V a few months ago for $270 and while not perfect, it still has better QC than this piece of crap and plays well.
Just bought one and it was literally perfect. Not a single issue with anything..
Mine too🤘
I bought one last year, it's mint.
I have the purple/black extra and I love it! I also can see why this guitar wouldn’t be for everyone. Also yes QC is an issue sometimes, I got lucky and love mine.
Because a lot of people are not comfortable with the explorer shape and they bang it everywhere. The purple is nice ;)

I seem to hate it in all 5 guitars that I reviewed with this pickup, for the sake of it 😳
You may get the odd, what now?
This is the first I’ve heard this gripe.
Dumb review. And those strings are juvenile. And awful player.
Yeah, it's all preference, can't really count the pickups against it.

Watch Glen Cricket’s take on the new Gibson Dave Mustaine V - Gibson is garbage

im trying to find any info if the bridge is ceramic or alnico.

I almost bought 1 used today. But decided to research. Thank u so much for helping me decide not to buy.
They are not all like this one probably, but it is good to be able to check one in person or at least have some sort of return option.
Yea man if it was a good price used you most definitely should have grabbed it
One more question, does the extura fit the gibson explorer case or is it too big/small ?

Maybe if you used some real strings on the Extura, it would sound better.
Not my choice, not my guitar. Also a lot of videos out there that sound the same. I would say I managed to get a decent sound out of it ;)
I've used these strings before and while I didn't like them, they are fine and not that much different tonally from regular strings.
