Thanks for the review and demo! You got me by surprise saying that the high access isn't that great on this one. I thought that this sculpt away at the back helps a lot with that. Currently i'm on the edge - i like the V but at the moment i would choose Extura (it changes from day to day). Purely based on looks, since spec is almost identitacal between those iterations of prophecy series. I already own a gibson LP, (among other things) but am looking for some relatively cheap kinda metal-ish active pickup 24-fret axe, and naturally went down to epiphone for something.
@@GeorgeVGuitars Yeah, if i can't find one close to me i can always take advantage of a law in my country that gives me the right to return anything ordered online without even stating a reason for 14 days, so i'm covered on this. Also - i'm in no rush, so probably it's still few weeks before i pull the trigger on that idea - there's a chance i switch back to liking V more and it seems that should solve the problem. I mean, what's the point of buying 24-fret guitar if you won't/can't use them.
Thanks for the review. The shallow route from the bridge pickup to the control cavity is concerning. Even the screw holes for the truss rod cover and the battery cavity are too close to the edge. Even the pickups aren't in line. I'd rather pickup a LTD Phoenix-1000 based off your review. Take care!
I thought about getting one of these, but it seems most of them have issues. I bit the bullet and bought an LTD Snakebyte instead and couldn't be happier!
I work at a guitar shop they're actually a great guitar the problem is ... one can be great then the next one could have that problem.. cause u don't know who was working on what one at the time in their factory...
What do you mean? 👀 There are plenty 25.5 and baritone guitar videos in my channel. But this is Epiphone/Gibson, everybody is expecting 24.75 ;) I had a couple of 27' and 28' Gibsons but it just feels wrong somehow. You can still go all the way down to A if you want to on a regular gibson. Its not ideal and intonation is funky, but hey, a lot of famous bands do it 👀
@@GeorgeVGuitars Metal guys do this a lot, drop D, drop C, open C, and so forth, require a little extra string length at the post to make these tuning changes. Not so much about scale length, however short scale can make drop tuning floppy on the bass strings, but more about having enough string length to change tunings when necessary.
@@DavidPerry-ui2qz You don't need a winding for a drop tuning. Drop from E and A and actually look at the millimeter that the string unwinds on the post.
Is it just me or are these pick ups incredibly average? They were the selling point to me until I got one and heard them. They're not bad, but they just seem underwhelming regardless of position. Thinking of just gutting it and putting in a Seymour Duncan in the bridge and whatever in the neck.
push/pull pots / coil splitting / etc are just gimmicks. I have been replacing the pots in my guitars within a few weeks of buying them with 550K Bare Knuckle pots without any of the gimmicks.

Yep, its pretty bad on the extura, make sure you try one. Or at least have the option to return it.

Thanks man, let me know what u get when you do.
George can you please tell me what bone and nut you would buy? E string is way too close to edge
Bull horn - black
I am actually buying one of this, purple one, but I am a bit afaird of the quality issues!
Make sure u have the option to return or exchange it and you are gonna be ok.
Thanks alot man what amp are you using?
Diezel VH4 Head
i ended up buying the Gibson Explorer. I still may get a Extura. I've never had active pick ups before.
Good choice

Yeah you made the right decision

Actually the extra string length is absolutely necessary for any dropped or open tunings. Remember not everyone plays in just standard.

I've got the Extura and I love it. The issue was I had to level the frets, once I did that it was awesome. I love the pickups. Fantastic for lead.
Yeah most epis seem to need a good fret leveling job and then they play great
Is that a pro job?
I did it myself. Been working on my own guitars for years.@@stevetimleck
I hate push /pull pots, I much prefer push/push pots that my Levinson Blade has

I'd say below average even :/
There's lots of videos online where they are super impressed with these pickups
Blang lala bang. 💯

Yeah i also use the BKP 550 but you cant use them with the active fishmans. You gotta swap the pickips too
You guys never corrected me in the comments so we don't talk about it ok classic lol.
i hope mine doesnt have all these problems
Where did you order it from?
