I'm not sure, I reckon they tuned their instruments to nearly a tone up and just went for it!
DJFozter believe it or not it's tuned a semitone higher, Matt Molloy play's an eflat flute.
He did /does for many years the higher pitched instrument can give an extra lift to the music ...they are generally a bit easier to handle.
the one person who gave the thumbs down must be tone deaf ha :) ha

Possibly an E flat flute? Matt Molloy played all of his first album on an E flat flute.
easy, but can be detrimental if you aren't cautious. The fiddle strings must be tuned half a step sharp; GDAE becomes AbEbBbF. The flute is likely Eb. Dervish and De Danann most notably recorded in this tuning a lot.
@TheSingingBarmaid Matt Peoples is the first one and the second is known as Matt peoples number 2. Matt Peoples is Tommy's uncle.
