  • Fiddle players Tommy and Siobhán Peoples play two tunes.
Tommy Peoples originally from east County Donegal, but now resident in County Clare. Born into a musical family, he took up the fiddle at a young age and continued to play during his teenage years.
Moving to Dublin he joined An Garda Síochána and regularly played in the traditional music sessions in O’Donoghue’s pub. For a time he was a member of The Bothy Band and recorded an album with them but eventually left to pursue a career as a solo performer. In the 1970s he moved to County Clare and married Maria Linnane, the daughter of Kilfenora Céilí Band leader Kitty Linnane.
Since then he has performed all over Ireland and the United States and is renowned for his unique style as well as his gift of composition. Tommy has recorded two solo albums, and another in duet with traditional flute player Matt Molloy, accompanied by Paul Bady.
For this performance Tommy Peoples is joined by his daughter Siobhán for the slow air ‘Hector the Hero’ and a reel, ‘The Bag of Spuds’.
This episode of ‘All The Best’ was broadcast on 2 July 1984. The presenter is Breandán Ó Dúill.
The first edition of ‘All the Best’ was a standalone programme on 03 January 1984 presented by Pat Butler as Fear an Tí.
Later that year, a series of twelve programmes was broadcast in the summer of 1984 with Breandán Ó Dúill as presenter or Fear an Tí. ‘All the Best’ literally featured some of the best traditional Irish music, song and dance. Each episode was a concert filmed at Cultúrlann na hÉireann, the headquarters of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí na hÉireann in Monkstown, County Dublin.
