  • Hi guys. This is part 7... or 8 maybe of the rather disorganized and chaotic full vehicle restoration project. I have done quite a few vehicle repairs, but this is the first time I have carried out so much work on a car. I was supposed to just get it road legal and just drive it about for a bit... but then I got a bit carried away, and before you know it you have gone beyond the point of no return.
I have had this terrible death wobble which had made my ride unusable ever since I have had it, or pretty much. I have only driven 3000Km in the 18 months that I have owned the car. I have done a lot of work on this Classic Range Rover. Land Rover build great cars and I have two of them, and in the family there are a few more. This one had been quite a project, and I totally underestimated how hard, expensive and complicated this project would be.

I can imagine that moment you figured it out must have been bitter sweet

Bitter sweet indeed my friend. It's just crazy that I had overlooked such a basic thing. But never in my life have I come across that situation. What is reassuring is that a good half dozen experienced people and two professional garages where I did the balancing and alignment didn't spot the problem either. All the best mate.

If everything is set up properly you can use without the steering damper and not get the death wobble, that should be the last part you replace when trying to fix the problem, good you found the reason though

Hello. Yes I now realize that I didn't really give a good explanation of the other possible causes of the wobble. But I'm only a beginner and there are a number of great videos out there for better explanations. Kindest regards

My death wobble was bushings. Good work.

Ha Ha they are the wheel nuts for the Alloy wheels for a disco

I'm not so sure.... Disco wheel nuts (and other land rover nuts for alloys) have a taper on the end and can be used on steel wheels at a push....

Well there are more things to sort out having a wobble.
