I'm not too familiar with League lore, but from what I hear, the difference is that Arcane Jayce is Tony Stark when he's written well, and LoL Jayce is Tony Stark in Civil War (the comic)

There's literally nothing wrong with the LoL characters. The showwriters didn't "stray away" with them, the took a look at their stories and went "allright, how can we give compelling and fitting backstories to those characters people love"? They worked with respect for the original. It's not a case like tge "The Boys" comic were the writers _had to_ completely rewrite from the original source in irder ti have a serviceable story.
The best part about arcane is that it isn't lol. Any lol player can confirm that.
They did not stay away from League, they embraced the lore and put their own spin on iconic characters, creating a fascinating story

Modern Harley Quinn was heavily influenced by Jeanette Voerman from Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines (even Arkham games referenced her) which predated League of Legends.
Character-wise Jinx is obviously inspired by Harley Quinn.

I straight-up hate the LoL designs with a passion, especially Jinx and Vi’s. I will forever thank the showrunners for changing it for the better.
LOL Vi was too hamfisted with the whole cool shaved hair tough girl persona.
In Arcane, she's still has a tough way about her, but that's because she's angry at the topsiders. She channels that anger into something productive, like being a leader to her siblings while still being impatient and short tempered.
LOL Jinx’s insanity made her a knock off Harley Quinn with no real rhyme or reason behind it other than for the manic pixie dream girl trope.
In Arcane, they channel that insanity into something actually tangible. A trauma response to all the death and violence she's seen since childhood. Not to mention Vi's outburst and abandonment.

@mjw2002mjw Well, the alternative was that Caitlyn and her team go after Jinx with extreme prejudice. At least with Vi on the team, they can mitigate some of the damage to come.
Design wise, she's getting closer to her LOL counterpart. But that's really it.

It’s so sad that no matter which character from arcane is your favorite, they all go to hell no matter what (forced to play league of legends forever).
This is why arcane is solid, they took concepts and ideas, respected and looked into them.
Where many others... like the witcher just spat on whatever origin and character building they could find.
The lore we got for victor and Jayce still works out well in larger quantity, when victor actually abandons his humanity, the previous story would make sense when you take things at a flatter value.

It should be said that LoL have never tried to be particularly deep or profound. LoL has always been cartoonish and straightforward and I think people forget that that is not a bad thing. Not everything needs to be super developed and thought out, it's ok to just be simple and fun.
And before people rip into me, that's not a critique about Arcane it's just saying that neither is better than the other. LoL is cartoonish and slapsticky, never bothering to be more than zany. Arcane is a serious take on those characters, with depth and fleshed-out character motivations that tries real hard. Both are good, it's just their intentions that differ.
That being said, Homelander slowly fading in is comedy gold
Ekko in LoL: Loves his community so much he turned down an opportunity to go to a prestigious piltovan university. Loves his parents so much that he uses his time travel device to have dinner with them multiple times every day so he can spend even more time with them.

Ekko in arcane is the leader of an independent anarchist adjacent commune that fights both sides to combat the proliferation of drugs in his community. That’s an extremely cool change to his character.

Jinx doesnt look much like Harley Quinn. Being a crazy woman isnt exactly exclusive to Harley. The closest character for her is the Joker and she still doesnt look like him obviously.

when Jinx was released she did not look much like Harley, especially in colors. Harley was still popularily red and black last I checked. If anything, DC seemed to have copied Jinx instead. Obviously not really the case, but still. Her style and arsenal is ALSO nothing like Harley. You are likely comparing Harley now to Jinx. Harley today and Jinx look a lot similar for whatever reason. They are still different.
And she isnt a complete ripoff of the Joker either if you say Joker. The only real similarities is the skin color and her craziness.
Either way, two characters being similar isnt what "ripoff" means. You can technically say Harley is also a ripoff by this logic since her character is based on Arleen Sokin who played a jester (the name is even the same) so, not very original now, are we?

@Windy_Artist-Dev making it cannon is, i think, a bad move and bad precedent to set. I believe the game, lore, and other affiliated media, including arcane, should all be connected but distinctly separate. WITHOUT doing any multiverse shenanigans. Let them be their own things. They should draw from each other, but they shouldn't be copies of each other
@@dirtydeeds4free553 That would be cool but considering how Riot is expanding everytime further it would be pretty hard to keep record of what is what, besides, I'm pretty the canon thing for almost everything benefits them not only to keep it coherent but for marketing, making it easier for people that meets the franchise for one product or another to keep consuming more.

@@Windy_Artist-Dev There's also the problem that Arcane's Runeterra and League's Runeterra are so fundamentally different when it comes to magic. Arcane is a world where magic is supressed and rare, Jayce seeing a mage is treated like an exceptional and once in a lifetime event, which makes no sense if he apparently has Seraphine, Ezreal and Zeri living close by, the first of which being extremely public with her magic.
You can find ways to justify and retcon to find an explanation but all that does is undercut the ability to tell stories in both universes, especially if they now have to become one.
And considering Riot's last lore retcon isn't even done (Shaco, Cho'Gath, Corki have absolutely no lore to speak of) I highly doubt their ability to fully reconcile the two universes through a medium that's going to take MUCH more time than just rewriting the backstories. I fear we're going to end up with a half baked canon in Arcane that can't possibly hope to include every champion without compromising it's storytelling ability and a confusing (and not canon) game universe that gets inconsequential developments through new champion releases that make the reconciling process 10x harder for Arcane, as well as so many of people's favourite characters just being left in limbo as to whether they are canon or not, or with no idea if they'll continue to like the character once their entire personality changes in the show.

Both for me since we've never seen his face in game IIRC. To know this cybord overlord came from a scrawny little nerd and not just, you know, a pure evil-looking guy in his fourties or fifties. Just like how his intention is treated inconsistently, lol.
I mean, it's really just a matter of media and preferences. Obviously, for arcane they decided to give the characters a more complex and expanded backstory, but there's nothing wrong with what they have/had in the game (also, their designs are perfectly fine, I don't understand the diss at that; plus, it' New 52's Harley Queen who is a bootleg Jynx, not the other way around).
The show did great, but making stuff "deeper" isn't always gonna cut it. The same way you can get Arcane or the Ashe comic, you could get Annie's current lore. It's just a matter of execution, nothing else.

A friend tried to get me into LOL a couple of years ago, I played it a couple of times but couldn't get me hooked because it seemed like a version of Warcraft 3 (I'm from the time of that video game when I was a teenager XD) but much more repetitive. Basically LOL is summarized in doing the same loop millions of times, at least in Warcraft 3 one can build a "settlement", explore the map... (but even with more things to do and more units to control at once, it became repetitive after not long) but there is the story mode in which you really see the characters developing in a context and you see what the personality of the heroes/champions is like, more than just a few phrases and a couple of paragraphs from a biography written somewhere.
The Arcane animated series is quite excellent, and as one would expect it only took the concepts of certain characters from LOL and deepened them much more, giving them coherence with the world and between the characters themselves. LOL is just a virtual miniatures tabletop wargame, but a bit more like a Tic Tac Toe, while Arcane is plot and narrative with meaning.

jayce is not a good person, even in LoL lore, look at what he did when viktor tried to safe people in zhaun...
He means well but is a flawed guy that gets caught up by the inertia of everything. I like that Arcane made him actually nice, while also giving him a fuckload of 'WTF dude' moments that are acknowledged as such that darken and complicate him.
LoL lore straight up makes him sound heroic and everything... but it comes off as fake asf and his actual actions are ass.
