Hi from Indianapolis! My husband went into a 15 day coma from an Enterovirus after an outbreak of Hand Foot Mouth at our daughter’s preschool. He now has an acquired brain injury from both viral meningitis and encephalitis. His heart and lungs were also involved. We have since connected with *numerous* families in the Midwest with devastating outcomes after Hand Foot Mouth. It seems to be Enterovirus 71? My question is why doesn’t the US have a vaccine for this when other countries do? How do we advocate for this? I’m so angry that most pediatrician’s brush this virus off as mild when it has the potential for incredible morbidity and mortality. Thank you!
