Appreciate getting to see your gel test. Best guess the S&B bullet seemed to perform slightly better because it was fired into a severely compromised (by the Barnaul bullet) gel block. Had both rounds been fired into pristine gel, I strongly suspect the S&B would not have appeared to edge out the Barnaul.
I agree with your assessment, the Barnaul mushroomed well and held together better. In a real work situation I believe the Barnaul would give a better result. Thanks for watching!
Store just got both brands. Came back here to wach video review on both. There same price and i was wondering which ones i was going to buy. Guess there about the same and not much difference detween the 2
Dont have any experience with SP Barnaul and wouldn't want to pay the price for the brass cased S&B but two seasons back I harvested a sweet mulie buck with a SP Wolf round that shattered a shoulder blade, blew out both lungs and took off the top of the freezer fillers heart before exiting leaving a fairly nasty exit hole. I have been a pretty big fan of Wolf ammo, especially since they went with the poly coating....just superb ammo. I do see that RSR currently has Barnaul on sale so I might get some just to see what the ammo is all about. I try to stay away from lacquered cases....I am too lazy to spend a few extra seconds cleaning my chamber from that crap. Never has been a huge problem though, still remember back when all Wolf ammo featured lacquer.
+Ilka Heffernan I am glad that you found the video useful! I am using my grandfather's 9x57 Mauser for now, but when I do use the SKS it will be Barnaul for me too. :)
I don't see why not, people have been using .30-30 bears for more than 100 years and they come out pretty even, just keep it to under 100 meters and you should be good. What part of NB are you in? Good luck and thanks for watching!
Im in Fredericton for university but hunt around Rusagonis or Salisbury usually. This fall was my first season hunting. This spring is gonna be my first time going for anything bigger than a partridge so I'm trying to learn as much as I can. Thanks and if you ever wanna go for a hunt give me a shout!
Congratulations buddy, it's great to see new people getting into the sport, good luck! I actually have about 10 -15 bears coming to within 500 meters of my house so I'm going to focus on those first. :) They are pretty amazing critters, make sure you watch for a while to be sure it's not a sow with cubs and make sure you have something nearby so you can judge their height, sometimes from a distance a small bear can look pretty big if you don't have a reference to gauge it's size.
S@B was only supplier for Czechoslovakian army, original army 7.62x39 has no sharp peak bullet but flat about 1mm square and was copper coated.Emagine you are hit one of those. This ammo was used during Vietnam war and veterans remembered horrendous wounds these bullets made.
Awesome! This is exactly the comparison I was looking for. Good video. One thought though. Is it possible the S&B penetrated further due to the gel already being kind of torn up from the first two shots? I'm no ballistics expert or anything just a thought. Perhaps some velocity info as well would help us to understand what exactly was the cause of the difference in penetration. I know this video isn't exactly new, but just some thoughts for future videos :)
Can I buy that washer and dryer...?...lol....I have used the Barnaul with good success....Dropped many wild hogs within 35-100 yrds...drops Coyotes in there tracks...no wounded animal yet...Thank You for the video.
Is it Posible to shot at 328 yards with the barnaul ammo or would you prefer more expensive ammo? Because the only place i can shot is at a 328 yards shooting range:/
i would use an ak47 from sdm because they are the only ak's you can get in my country without high import and paper costs. And i'm an average shooter, normaly with a sig 550
Wow
Look at that S&B price
2015 was a hard year
$21.99
Great video!!!
I’m a fan of both
I am glad you enjoyed the video, thanks for watching!

Both work just fine, for me the S&B would gain an edge because it's brass but realistically no practical difference. Thanks for watching!
Reminds me of Grandma's delicious poundcake.
LOL, this stuff isn't nearly as tasty. Thanks for watching!

I'm not sure but I have heard rumours that Wolf is Barnaul's American brand name. We don't see Wolf here in Canada.
Thanks for watching!
Thanks, very informative. I plan on using the Barnaul ammo in my sks next week for deer(it'll be a first).

Ilka Heffernan I've been debating using my SKS for Coyotes with JSP rounds. I'm going to now after watching these vids.
how did it go?
Im in New Brunswick too, do you think you could use 7.62x39 on a black bear?
I don't see why not, people have been using .30-30 bears for more than 100 years and they come out pretty even, just keep it to under 100 meters and you should be good.

If you haven't already joined, there is a NB Bear hunters group on FB, lots of good information and good folks.
I have not but I sure will now! Thanks for all the advice sir, and good luck this season!

Thank you for the information, and thanks for watching!
Roman Zdenek the horrendous wounds were inflicted during the Vietnam war by the 5.56mm fired from the M-16, not by the 7.62X39mm.

I was really impressed by how the Barnaul opened and they stayed together well too. Thanks for watching!
Is it Posible to shot at 328 yards with the barnaul ammo or would you prefer more expensive ammo? Because the only place i can shot is at a 328 yards shooting range:/
+Kappi1997 The range would depend more on your rifle and your ability to put the shot on target, the ammo should do it's job.
i would use an ak47 from sdm because they are the only ak's you can get in my country without high import and paper costs.
And i'm an average shooter, normaly with a sig 550
+Kappi1997 You will want to practice shooting at that range to find your point of aim for the distance.
They both did good. Barnaul did twice as good.
Thanks for watching!
what were you shooting it out of?
+Jeff H Sorry, I thought I mentioned, I was shooting a 1950 Tula SKS.
How far were you when you fired at the blocks?
I was at about 25 yards.
Are you in Ontario ?
+Buck Downs New Brunswick
This guy actually red tho
LOL, thanks for watching!
Patrony,patrony,patrony ????? FMJ , HP, SP ?????
Both rounds were soft point, SP. Thanks for watching!
