I do freezer meals now as we are raising grandkids since my daughter passed 3 yrs ago from cancer. I get such great inspiration from freezer meals! Easy meals are what I go to. An easy way to freezer meal prep is also to make 2. What I mean is if your already making, for instance, a lasagna then make a second one for the freezer. You already have all the things out, already making a mess. Bonus if you know it's something your family really likes then make 2 for the freezer and one for dinner that night. It slowly builds a stash of easy meals.

If you put aluminum foil on first and then cover with plastic it works better. When you get ready to cook it you just take off the plastic and leave the foil on. Learned this from Jamerelle Stewart’s channel. 😊

Yep I agree with the other commenter about the foil breaking down. The first time I freezer meal prepped I put the foil down first and found myself picking out little pieces of foil from MANY of the meals I had made. I now wrap in plastic wrap first, then foil and when I go to bake them I just add the foil back over top after taking off the plastic wrap. This method works much better IMO

I'm a little late to this channel but I do have a suggestion. My children, when they were quite young, were picky about what veggies they would eat. So I took to pureeing veggies and adding them in places they wouldn't expect. "Hey kiddo, do you like mama's spaghetti?" Them: "It's so good." (No, seriously they would ask for seconds.) Me: Not telling them that there were bell peppers, zucchini, onion, and carrots in the sauce. So, definitely do that. Gotta get veggies in them whenever we can, you know?

Can I freeze anything already cooked/fresh? And I just warm it up in microwave, crockpot, or oven? Can it really be this simple?!?! What about taste/texture... Is it still pretty good? I know it won't be like "just cooked" but sometimes I'm so busy I don't stop to cook food and skip meals and that's not good. And I have plenty of time to cook meals ahead... I would love the answers to what I asked. You are so smart. Thank you!

Hi I too make a list of what is in my freezer. My mom many years ago would buy once a month and also do alot of freezing with the summer garden. She would create a map. Just looking in the freezer and creating sections and labeling from top to bottom and also would date it. She would check off and then would always know how far and where to dig for what she needed. Blessings!!

Love these! Going to try one day. Wish I’d done years ago when I had my babies. I remember buying a stouffers lasagna & saving it in my freezer as a treat after I had my 2nd baby. Freezer space back then was very minimal and only a little top spot. Nowadays I buy the tin tops for the aluminum pans - put on & then wrap twice in glad press & seal. Super durable and no freezer burn.

Thanks a lot for the video, love it!!! I'm also planning to cook & freeze meals for a month & I have a few questions and would love if you answer them, listing them down below:
    1. Should I buy a dedicated deep freezer for it or my refrigerator's freezer compartment would suffice? I have heard that deep freezers (especially chest freezer with manual defrost) might be a better option, would love to hear your take on it?
    2. I'm also concerned about potential food poisoning risks if food is kept for too long, or if compressors auto stop and food is melted/thawed a little bit during the day. I think refrigerators might do that instead of manual defrost deep freezers. Again, would appreciate your views on it.
    3. Should I use plastic bags/zip-lock bags or have food stored in plastic containers?
    4. Have you stored kneaded dough ever? I have heard that it goes bad really fast
Thanks in advance, have so much more to ask but these are the top 4 questions!! Would appreciate a reply!

If you buy another freezer and know that you want to keep doing freezer meals then an upright freezer might be a good investment. You can freeze things in bags on a sheet pan and then they are so much easier to find and get out because of the shelves. I see some people who do a lot of freezer meal prepping especially with larger families use them. Another good thing to freeze is potatoes. I’ve done it where I peeled, cut, and froze potatoes for mashed potatoes. You do have to do a quick boil of your potatoes for just a few minutes and then put them in cold/ice water to cool them or they will change color and be a bit darker because of the same enzyme that changes the color if you leave the potatoes out of water for too long. There is nothing wrong with the potatoes if they do get that kinda darker color and you can still safely eat them but some people might not care for the look of them. Taste is the same too. The potatoes also cook quicker in my opinion.

Katherine from "Do it on a Dime" puts her categories of meats and veggies into color grocery bags (pork in one bag, beef, chicken, veggies, pizza, fruits, ice cream). That way you know chicken is in the yellow bag, beef in the brown bag, pork in the pink, veggies in green, ice cream in white, etc...easy to remove and put back.

Finally, at 51, I actually like small amounts of even raw onion. But the biggest part of my life I spent pureeing onion for just about everything that needed the flavor too. Had to giggle when I saw that! It's even how I make salsa to this day...the onion gets pureed and everything else just pulsed. Still do it a lot of the time for soups.

Looking at your first recipe, as Italian let me suggest you to do an easy and faster tortellini recipe. It is called "tortellini Panna, prosciutto e piselli"
You just have to cook the tortellini in hot boiled and salt water for few minutes, and then dress them with cooking cream, diced ham and pre cooked peas.
Everyone has it's own taste, but in my opinion, there's no need to add all this sause to tortellini. Otherwise you can't taste the tortellini, you can only taste the sause :)

Have a off brand instant pot use it several times a week. Was in the $60 range on Amazon. A pressure cooker will only blow up if all the water evaporates. Grew up cooking with one and still do.

This Mama's House my cooker is a Omorc I got off amazon but I can’t find it for sale anywhere. Might be better off going with a insta pot after all. A 6 quart is under $100. 6 quarts fits a whole chicken.

Good idea but please remember to wash the food and for sure the meat soak with vinegar salt water or lemon line juice.. Just cause sometimes meat or food has been sitting for a while exspically that you have kids!

You are so organized, congratulations! I am lucky that my mother lives nearby and she is a very good cook, she helped me out a lot postpartum 😊 No offense, but as a European I am a bit confused, that you use all this aluminum containers. They are not very popular here in Austria, we mostly use reusable plastic containers - less trash (that means also less stuff to bring to recycle) and convenient because you always have them at home when you need them. I assume that is not so popular in the USA right? Just asking out of curiosity.

    • @mavisormani3738
      @mavisormani3738 2 года назад

The aluminum ones can be placed directly in the oven to cook the meal.
      I’m guessing that’s why they’re popular.
Afterwards, they can be discarded. No mess to clean.
