Very surprised. I was under the impression that living in Costa Rica was very inexpensive but apparently things have changed. I really don't think that it's a place to go to retire to anymore. If you want to live as an American with all the commodities you would expect as an American, you're talking 3 to 4 thousand dollars a month, if not more. There are many cheaper areas that I can think of where my money would give me a much better lifestyle. I'm starting to realise that the south of Spain is by far one of them. Great weather, beautiful beaches, good health care. You can find some lovely little towns where you can live very comfortably for less than 2 thousand dollars a month. Also don't forget that you will be close to all of the European countries, if you decide to travel.
Hi Bill, yes it’s true that Costa Rica has gotten much more expensive in the past 10 years. Some of the people said that they lived on $1500-2000 per month but you could also live on that in Europe easily
When I was motorcycling through CR in 2009, I thought that it was effectively the same costs as Colorado. Rural life could be on the lower scale, but then it is rural without amenities. Urban or upscale experiences were about on par with Denver. Maybe 20% benefit, if you watched your money. Comparatively, when I spend time in Mexico, I find it is 50% less. If I am frugal, I live as well or better than the US at 40% of my costs. CR has dropped off my list of possibilities, in favor of Mexico, Ecuador, Chile and Portugal.
Not sure if this helps, but I checked Costa Rica on Airbnb and found more than 300 listings for monthly stays that were less than $700 per month for 1-person renting the entire place (not shared housing), with at least 100 stays under $350/month. That search doesn't show all the listings, so I narrowed the search to the Nicoya area and found 86 listings under $500/month. I think the biggest expense in CR is housing, and if you are renting monthly stays you can get much better deals than the $1,200 mentioned in the video. Depends on the lifestyle and standards of each person I guess.

I stopped going to Costa Rico about 15 years ago. It is a beautiful country but you can find that right here in the good ole USA in South Florida or the West Coast. The prices back then were about the same as here even back then. Sounds more expensive now. They gov't even charges you to leave the country. Plus you will never speak the language unless you are immersed in it. Your videos are so professional and informative plus you always look great.
Yes, rent is expensive everywhere. We have to consider the income as well. Americans who move to southern countries with dollar incomes will absolutely see rents such as these as inexpensive/ affordable. But if you ask locals who earn their currency, this rent is expensive. Location and comfort definitely makes a difference.

Looks like Costa Rica hasnt changed super much after 25 years . . .
BTW, I remember back in 2000-2004 the government of Costa Rica had a big campaign to push for making City of SanJose/SanJuan a global hub of Internet startups . . . looks like their domestic CostaRica economic push failed . . .
also Screw the VV.H.O. they want to pass a BIG new authoritarian power grab May22-28 to take away all human rights across every Western nation . . . are you aware of this new non-incredulous legislation???
Hi there! Thanks for watching and sharing your comment. No I am not aware of that.
Wow Costa Rica is expensive. I knew that but dang. Panama City is at those levels now almost if not more for dining out and rent. Amy reason why you have so many car repairs??
How many days can you sit on the beach, while your house is being robbed or your vehicle
This is living proof that everyone in private all the countries it's not that as expensive as you think.. depending on where you go.. but you definitely have to be your research first..
yes; definitely takes research and planning!
You mention Nature Air as a possible in-country airline option. They ceased operations entirely in January of 2018.
Oh I did not know, thanks for mentioning William 😊
Great video as always.
Thank you, Eric ❤️
I love ur videos.
Thanks! Glad you like them.
Subbed Your Channel, It is very interesting and beautiful :) thank you for sharing...
Thanks for subbing, Yasin! 🙌😊I am glad you enjoyed my content💛
Saludos desde Costa Rica. Buen vídeo. Aquí todo está caro😅👋
Any ideas for rent in like a quiet sleepy beach town? Not really into the city living.
Hi David, you might want to check out my video on The best places to live in Costa Rica ruclips.net/video/_Wy3dlqMeus/видео.html
You are beautiful.
Thanks for info and keep it up!
Thank you for the kind words, Fred. 🙏
Is all depents I own a small farm 4 accres with a 2 bedroom aparment in a beautiful town Palmares Alajuela a rent out the place for $450.
Dang, it costs me less to live in Portugal in a 4-bedroom, 2-bath apartment than it does to live in the central highlands of Costa Rica.
And when I finally buy a place instead of rent, it'll be even cheaper.

Not to mention that you can order from Amazon pretty easily here. Amazon is in Spain, Germany, and the UK... so you can order pretty much whatever you'd order from Amazon US. And it will make it to you with little fuss.
That's great, thanks for sharing jetfowl. 😊
how lol everything i looked at in portugal was super expensive , id luv 2 live there tho
@@ninaxoxo2555 Central and northern Portugal is a lot cheaper than Lisbon or the Algarve (or the Azores).
An excellent estimate for cost of living there
Looks like I can’t afford it. Living on social security disability my max spending per month is $1200. Is there anywhere warm for me in the world?!
What are the best beach towns in Costa Rica for digital nomads?
I did a best places video for Costa Rica here: ruclips.net/video/_Wy3dlqMeus/видео.html 😊
Hi Kristin. I am looking at a few options and hoping to live 6 months per year in Ecuador. I am looking into house and pet sitting in Ecuador . I am receiving retirement income now, but started a wellness business last year that will serve clients online . This is opened in the US. Do you know how I could live in Ecuador for 6 months each year? Or who could help me get clarity on retirement or temporary residence visas?

You are so cute. I am following your videos from previous two years. So cute you are.
Thanks Deepak
Ridiculous prices! Go to the Buddhist countries, much more for the money and way nicer ppl.
You mean, like, in Burma? Where they brutalise, horrify and terrify the Rohingya minority with their ethnic cleansing? Way nicer people my arse. Read.
@@mac3490 We all know western media ALWAYS side with the mus...., don't we? ALWAYS!!
Agreed

I stopped going to Costa Rico about 15 years ago. It is a beautiful country but you can find that right here in the good ole USA in South Florida or the West Coast. The prices back then were about the same as here even back then. Sounds more expensive now. They gov't even charges you to leave the country. Plus you will never speak the language unless you are immersed in it. Your videos are so professional and informative plus you always look great.
Glad you like my videos and thanks for sharing Dennis! I understand your insights, I've shared mine as well ruclips.net/video/cbGMngGx2xk/видео.html
Sucks I can’t retire there
good video
Glad you enjoyed it, GhostDave!
For a familly of 4 I can say I live quite fine for $2500 a mount....
Thanks for sharing, Berny! 😊
Cool
Watching these videos really makes me realize how darn expensive it is to live in the US.
Is it necessary to be able to speak Spanish to become citizen in CR?
Hi Mark, I think they do have a language test. You can check out this link for more info: www.giambronelaw.com/site/advice/gaining-citizenship/spanish-citizenship/spanish-application/applying-for-spanish-citizenship-what-is-required/
yeah you do
Ok , prices are pretty much the same where i live .
I feel like all these cost of living videos are out of whack with the crazy hyper inflation we've been having.
Inflation is definitely happening, but it’s interesting that some people are living on the same budgets from 10 years ago and others are spending more

i know you didn't want some dude's response..😃..but yes i have, beautiful, really cheap, but the people were soso...to keep it polite, not always very hygienic compared to thailand were i used to live
Cool! Thanks!
Not yet!
Are you paying for all this in USD OR Costa Rican Colon
You can usually pay rent in USD and pay for some items with usd and receive cash in colones. But I’m this video I converted many prices to usd for reference to viewers from different countries
I don't like luxury places just a simple place , clean, easy to move.
good
Thanks, zm liu!
My Friends niece was murdered this week in Costa Rica. American, had lived there for several years.
I am so sorry to hear about your friend's niece. My thoughts and prayers to the family.

@@TravelingwithKristin See you in Sardinia, Florence, or Rome. With $6.49 gallon of gas here in San Diego, it's time to move on (or move back) to sanity! Yes, Euro prices have risen, too, (Spain 9%, etc.) but my living expenses are minimal in Italy...so it's nice and quiet, and I can actually get away from all this horrid political bickering and focus on producing my work and sitting in the sun, listening to the church bells, sipping my third cappuccino, nodding off, feeding the pigeons, and snuggling with my beloved Italian wife of 38-plus-years now. I wish you great peace, Kristin. As a fellow writer/director myself, I know how hard this work is! Just wanted to leave you with this one thought: You are greatly appreciated by everyone here within the YT community; thank you for all your hard work, your attention to truthful reportage, and, most importantly, your authenticity!
Is this pesos? or US dollars
Hello. Thank you for your kind words. Have a happy evening today. (👍🏻306+)💞💘💕
Hi there as well! Thanks for watching. Have a great day as well 😊💛
Sounds like it’s expensive as you want to make it
Where you live now?
Currently in Miami.
Groceries are quite affordable.
Yes one of the lowest expenses is groceries especially at the outdoor markets (ferias) 🥬🍊🥑🍍
In the US, organic produce is supposed to be certfied by some sort of government program. Does the Costa Rica government certifiy that organic produce there is actually pesticide and herbicide-free?
@@TimMaloneyNMactor what are you smoking lol I got a bag of food so heavy it was hard to carry for 4 dollars, shit that doesnt grow anywhere except california or florida, and i workout

I think the places mentioned in this video to rent is for the rich.
Sounds much like here in U.S.
pretty similar but depends on your lifestyle. Locals are living on a fraction of the price as foreigners it seems
I’m sorry but I’ve heard Costa Rica is known for having so many prostitution easy girls all over. Nah not for me. I’m from South America and Costa Rica doesn’t have the beaches we have down in our continent...
I understand, Leila! Thanks for watching anyway 🙌😊
It's a sex tourism destination
Not as inexpensive as it use to be... 😐
That’s for sure!
One thing my wife needs is goats milk. Other than that she can get by on mostly local fare.
I wish people who make these videos would say what $$$. they are talking about. The U.S. is not the only country with dollars as their currency and not the only country in the world. God bless America and no one else.
