I've added devices throughout my home over the past ~2 years, based on need for automations, not based on where the devices are located. How do I rebuild my mesh? Do I successively exclude and then re-include my devices? If so, to I need to then rebuild my automations? Running the Z-wave repair tool fails for a large proportion of my devices. I have about 20 repeating + about 10 battery-powered devices. One of my automations is slightly erratic, with the devices being about as far away from the hub as they can be in the house.
Is there a difference in adding older Z-wave devices and the newer Z-Wave Plus devices? How often should we run a Z-Wave repair and does it cause the mesh network to be rebuilt?
"Classic" Z-Wave devices may need to be paired near the hub, but Z-Wave Plus devices should be able to pair in-place through your mesh network (and if not, they're unlikely to work in place, either). There are rare exceptions for some devices, like secure entry devices (garage door openers, locks) that may need to be paired very close to the hub.
Can you explain, or point to an explanation about, what it means to "let the network establish itself". Also, can you explain how automating before that establishment prevents or inhibits the establishment?

Do the same tips apply to Zigbee devices?
how can i make step 3 ??
What automations are being spoken of here ? Creating groups, google integration? Are these automations or are you referring to rule machine?
What happens if power goes out after setup? Will the mesh network rebuild properly?
Is there a way to run 2 hubs for high availability?

Run a Zwave repair every time you add something new , your network will thank you ;-)
NICE tips! But can I apply them to Zigbee devices?
Many of these are still good practices with a Zigbee mesh, but zigbee doesn't require devices to be excluded and is a self healing network.
So how far each device could from each other. What the first device?
are there any z wave compatible ceiling fans ?

Great question. Also, If I'm adding one hundred devices, do I need to add them all before I automate anything?
I’m also curious why adding automations is tied to the mesh network establishing itself.
It’s called ‘superstition’. A very important part of wireless mesh network setup in general...
Just buy Z-Wave Plus and pair them. They are much more advanced then Z-Wave and perform self-diagnosis.
