Tim Allen has already portrayed the real Buzz Lightyear before in the Star Command movie but in his version, the character was part of the _"fictional movie"_ that the Toy Story characters inserted inside of the VCR to watch it on Andy's TV. So the events that were happening in the Star Command movie weren't real, the real parts are the scenes with the Toy Story characters. So why couldn't they do that story in Lightyear ?
@jerel - That is because Star Command came out in the year 2000, 16 years prior to Donald Trump's presidency, to which Tim Allen considers himself (unofficially) politically aligned. Di$ney and the parasite activists that have hijacked it, removed him from the iconic role in favor for someone who endorsed their radical political ideology, and was already contractually employed with Di$ney.
I met Tim Allen in a restaurant years ago with my family and we were all exicted to see him. A few of us went over to his table and asked for his autograph. I said, "would you mind?" And he said that actually he WOULD mind. We were shocked at that moment as huge Home Improvement fans growing up, and I didn't like him for a while after that lol, but what I realized about him is that he just keeps it real. I value his authenticity in this time when so many celebrities feel the need to conform to not be cancelled. Authenticity is more important than ever and so I forgive him lol
I mean, wouldn't you hate for some stranger to come up to your table in a restaurant and ask for your autograph/picture when you're just trying to have a meal? I absolutely would. So I never hold it against celebrities for responding like that-having that constantly happening has got to be pretty awful.
Years ago I saw a guy who hosted a 1/2 hour gardening show on the local public tv channel dining at TGIFriday's with his family. A lady nearby pointed at him and said loudly, "You're Tom Smith (not his real name) aren't you?" He turned red as a beet, and answered, "No, I'm NOT. I HATE that guy." At first the lady was a little stunned, and was about to say something else, but then realized it actually was him and she felt like a fool. People at other tables were looking at him, asking each other who he was. Well obviously they weren't watching public tv on Thursday nights at 8:30. I felt a little sorry for the lady because she shrank back and tried to disappear into her chair. The guy and his family left 2 minutes later. People looked at one another, shrugged and went back to eating their burgers. Your encounter with Tim sounds a little less traumatic. 😉
Tim Allen has a better attitude about this than people that have nothing to do with "Lightyear" or "Toy Story" & have sour attitudes about it. He could teach them a thing or two. Class act.
I agree. Wish more people appreciated him. One of the last if that specific old Hollywood breed of class and talent. Most of them have aged out or deceased.
@Dontay It's not the same character. Tim even said this himself. That's one of the things that threw people off. The film is about the person the toy is BASED on, not the actual Buzz Lightyear.
Allen's Lightyear was a toy that was not aware that it was a toy, and the process of learning that and developing relationships with other toys was the whole motivation for the character. Making "the film that inspired the toy" is a way to tack the Buzz Lightyear name onto an entirely different property.
Tim Allen and Richard Karn are a real class act. I will have to check out More Power. It gives me a Dirty Jobs kind of vibe which is another show I really enjoyed. Tim Allen is Buzz Lightyear to me and my family. We are huge Toy Story fans. In regards to Lightyear, my family and I have seen Top Gun Maverick in the theaters three times and we have no plans of seeing Lightyear even once. That should pretty much tell you everything you need to know. BTW, we are a proud, middle class, Black American family.
@@slackstack888 Thats just it, not everything is politics. Certainly whether you watch a film AT ALL shouldn't be based on politics. Yeah that's great, and you're one of the reasons Top Gun is so popular among the very few who are seeing it. Because with so many viewings from so few people it actually proves how it's not really as popular as its box office would seem to be. That's just like how Titanic got so huge in the late nineties, they just had so many people seeing it over and over again but still not that many actually saw it.
@@JacksonHoulihan Well, just for arguments sake I think that was a pretty big number for both, but does it actually matter? I have no desire to see the first top gun or this top gun but I'm not about to rate a movie I didn't see. I suspect I could write out the main theme of it without seeing it.
Before the debut of the Top Gun sequel, Tom Cruise thanked the audience for attending and it's doing great. Chris Evans decided to insult people who didn't appreciate the alphabet grooming of kids and the flick is tanking. It also got banned in several countries because of the alphabet theme. They tried to cancel Chris Pratt for being a Christian and a good dad, but its doing great at the box office.
What? Please stop lying. Chris Evan insulted the homophobic people who are crying about the single frame kiss scene. No one brought up grooming 😂😂 whatever fits your narrative though.
Yep, not only that, Disney executives made it clear that they want to shoehorn in gay propaganda in their movies made for children. I've always like Tim Allen and grew up watching Home Improvement and a lot of movies he was in. I really hate that society has become so hateful and divided in recent years that Tim gets all sorts of downright, genuine HATRED from people who don't even know him because he identifies as a conservative. It's like no one believes in forgiveness anymore. He wouldn't have become famous at all if people never got over his drug trafficking charges in the 70s. The world would also be robbed of Robert Downey Jr and all of the great things he has done if they could never forgive him for his past. Forgiveness and tolerance just don't exist anymore, people just want everyone to conform to an identical ideology or else they want to ruin their careers and lives. Damn shame.
He's right, the movie doesn't have a connection to the toy because in the universe of all the movies "Lightyear" came before Toy Story. The toy was based on a 90s TV show Andy saw that was technically based on this movie. At least that's how it was explained by the director or producer of "Lightyear" which makes since as to why he looks different and is voiced by someone else. Lightyear Buzz is a real person, Toy Story Buzz is a toy.
Disney screwed over Tim Allen, Robin Williams as The Genie, and Jim Henson's Muppet Franchise. It's all a matter of record, and the general public knows it. Everyone has Disney's number. 🤨😒
Disney didn't screw over anyone. Tim Allen has a career because of Disney. Tim also voiced the toy. This movie is based on the human, not the toy. Also Tim is still working with Disney on a Santa Clause series coming to Disney + this year. It;s funny how people complain about how Disney screws him but Tim always works with them. A large majority of his resume and success is Disney. Through their owned studios like ABC, Pixar, Touchstone, Walt Disney Pictures etc. 1991-99: Home Improvement 1994: The Santa Clause 1995: Toy Story 1997: Jungle 2 Jungle 1999: Toy Story 2 2000: Buzz Lightyear of Star Command: The Adventure Begins 2002: Big Trouble 2002: The Santa Clause 2 2006: The Shaggy Dog 2006: The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause 2008: Wild Hogs 2010: Toy Story 3 2012-17: Last Man Standing 2012: Chimpanze 2013: Toy Story of Terror! 2014: Toy Story That Time Forgot 2019: Toy Story 4 2022: The Santa Clauses
Since you like research, look into how Disney didn't consult Robin Williams on merchandising, and how Henson Associates were given a modified, low-ball lose it all deal when Henson passed away. You know NOTHING about Tim Allen, the stand-up career that led to his highly successful TV series (which segued into another) and his humility...which prevents him from holding Walt's "piss-poor" successors to the fire. TALENT got Tim Allen his opportunities...not FIZZ-NEY.

Toy Story 4 was like Spider-Man 3, Fast and the Furious 3, Superman 4, Speed 2 and Home Alone 3. Straight trash.
@@kenb2671 Nope, there is definitely joy to be had in half of those mentioned. Toy Story 4 was lifeless with a boring story that should never have even been revived, woke characters shoehorned in to make up the Disney quota and painful dialogue.
Spiderman 3, FF3 and Speed 2 are actually enjoyable.
I love the fact that Tim and Richard are back on TV together. God bless you guys
Anything Tim will make as a show I will watch and enjoy. It was great seeing Richard again.

He probably didn't want the baby to obstruct the view.

Idk they really dropped the ball on that one
They probably forgot about Star Command when they were making this movie
@@josephmendoza9523 They didn’t forgot about the Buzz Lightyear cartoon, they HATE that cartoon and want everyone else to forget it.

Class act.
Indeed.
Nothing against chris evans, but THIS is the real buzz, whether he was just the toy or not
😂
Chris Evans is a leftist looney. No professionalism in attacking fans.
I like when Tim says, "Now we gotta watch our language". To bad most people don't any more...
Tim is such a good guy. And man I miss home improvement
I'm watching reruns everynight.
Uh, its tells us lots about you, but not much about the film. Why wouldn't you go watch a movie simply because its a different voice?
Another Maverick fan. I'm so watching it now, it's had too many comments like yours, talking about seeing it several times.
@@slackstack888 Thats just it, not everything is politics. Certainly whether you watch a film AT ALL shouldn't be based on politics. This guy is an actor, sometimes he's said things I agree with, most often not, but I didn't NOT go see movies because I don't agree with his politics. Galaxy Quest is one of the greatest comedies, I'm glad I didn't avoid it beause I don't like Tim Allen.
Tim Allen will always be my favorite buzz lightyear from toy story.
Ok Incel
What? Please stop lying. Chris Evan insulted the homophobic people who are crying about the single frame kiss scene. No one brought up grooming 😂😂 whatever fits your narrative though.
@Just One Question Yes. It's a family movie about action. No romance needed what so ever.
Yep, not only that, Disney executives made it clear that they want to shoehorn in gay propaganda in their movies made for children. Plus the whole Florida and abortion stuff, yeah glad to see families not supporting a company actively trying to break them. That's why Minions is doing so well this weekend, big slap on Disney's face, but they'll find other excuses for that.

Well, Actors know they don’t own their characters. It’s the movie studios that do. I’m sure Tim was hurt when he wasn’t cast as the voice for Lightyear, but in hindsight, he dodged a bullet.

Such a interesting show, loved Home Improvement.
He can't be Buzz Lightyear without Tom Hanks and their time with those characters had ended gracefully.
Toy Story 3 would've been a graceful ending. 4 was a garbage, cash-grab sendoff.
Damn shame.
Tim Allen, you’re truly a role model and a true man!
He's absolutely correct, this has nothing to do with the Classic Toy Story Saga.

Thank you lady for this great interview :-)
He's right, the movie doesn't have a connection to the toy because in the universe of all the movies "Lightyear" came before Toy Story. The toy was based on a 90s TV show Andy saw that was technically based on this movie. At least that's how it was explained by the director or producer of "Lightyear" which makes since as to why he looks different and is voiced by someone else. Lightyear Buzz is a real person, Toy Story Buzz is a toy.
Star Command the tv series was more of a connection to the Lightyear I've heard it was a decent movie but it's in no way a 90's movie.

Tim Allen! Love this man, made my childhood. I love Tim as buzz but I’m not upset about him not being in light year since it’s a spin off with Chris, especially since it failed. The issue I believe people have is injecting woke politics in a kids movie
If two straight characters kiss in a kids movie, is that injecting politics into it? Or only when there's a kiss involving a type of relationship you're bigoted against?

I've been re-watching Home Improvement seasons lately. I'm on season 7 right now. That show pretty much raised me as a kid.
