This is great my friend. I used this machine for many years (80 to 95). I must have bounced so, so many times when developing/recording tunes. The problem I know realize was that the bounced tracks were mono early on for the backing tracks. The later tracks could be separated better into stereo. Playing real time with the jams was great, and you had to be right on the groove when recording. Great days. I record digitally since 1996, and have been thinking of fixing my (2) A3440s. Hello :), when you record, at all times you see a jack connected to the headphone output of the TEAC, where does that cable go? because when you use SYNC mode the channels are heard poorly, you cannot monitor the channel that you record in SYNC mode. That is to say, then you can't make a recording only with the 4-track machine? without using an external mixer etc? Because if you connect to the Teac Jacks directly and monitor the channels there in SYNC mode, your monitor of the channel you are recording cannot be heard or it sounds very saturated.
Hi! Yes, you can make a recording just by using the machine itself, without using a mixer. In fact, the first tracks were actually recorded with tge sync mode. I used the mixer when I had to bounce the tracks and when I had to record drums (that had more than one microphone mixed in one channel). So the headphone jack output is actually connected to my headphones for monitoring. And yes, sync is not the best sounding, but it’s not that bad (in my machine at least) for multitrack recording without a mixer, you’ll have just to set levels very carefully ;)

I know the SYNC isn't the best sounding, but then there's something wrong with this machine. It doesn't sound bad, it sounds horrible! When you put it on Play it sounds great, but I go into SYNC mode and for example the Bass Track1, Drum Track 2, Piano track 3 that are already recorded in Play sounds great! but I put on SYNC to monitor myself recording a guitar for example, then both me and the other 3 sound super bad!! Like I eat them when a preamp is blown or when you're super saturating the signal. Being that I was careful when recording the levels and as I said in play mode it sounds great. Sometimes only channel 1 allows me to monitor myself in SYNC mode, sounding clean. I have a Fostex too and everything is recorded there without a problem, it doesn't have SYNC, it's a little more modern. But I liked the TEAC because you can use it in autonomous mode, supposedly. Someone there said in a forum: NO YOU CAN'T MONITOR YOURSELF IN SYN MODE FOR THAT YOU NEED A MIXER. But it's illogical. That's why I asked if you monitored yourself from the headphones and I saw that you recorded directly to the front preamps. Do you think it's the mother board? PCBs are no longer discarded.
.. This is why they put inserts on mixing desks or just record on computer and send audio onto tape there is no magic sound on the Tascam pre amps. Things get interesting if you record smpte on to one track from reaper daw and then sync reaper from your A-3440 so reaper plays or records when you start the A-3440
Your English is very good. I can appreciate this I because I am a student of both Spanish & German. Have you ever visited the USA? Every once in a while you pronounce a word like someone from England. Most of your speech sounds like that of an American pronunciation with a German accent to me. I was born & raised in Texas by people born & raised in Texas etc., etc. I live in the Texas hill country that has a lot of German immigrant influence.

But I know, I got a bunch of influences in my accent, sometimes it’s a bit confusing :) I’ve been to America, but I never had the chance to stay enough to visit it more.. Senza quelli non posso registrare. Comunque è un gioiellino
