Great bacon transfer! That's what friends are for :) Nice sailing, by the way. These Rustlers are very stable boats, must a pleasure to sail. Fair winds!

Great boat, great video- shame about all the advertising, spoils continuity. I’m sure it’s not your plan but it could be a lot better without so many. Thanks anyway. H

Lovely boat. Is it just me or do Halcyon seem to have an inordinate fear of Orcas?

Bloody nice solid boat, that is about as good a blue water cruising yacht as you'll ever find, Cornwall, Newquay and Falmouth in particular hold a very special place in my heart, and many fond memories from when I was there many moons ago, I'm South African but lived in Newquay and worked as a boilermaker at A&P Falmouth in the latter '90s. Magnificently beautiful and unquestionably the best part of England to live in.
Now back to the boat, please correct me if I'm wrong, to the best of my knowledge the Rustler 35', or is it 36'?? has been a GGR (Golden globe race) staple for some time now. For those unfamiliar with this race it's a retro unassisted non stop solo circumnavigation as per the original race that Sir Robin won on Suhaili in 1968. No GPS, plotter etc all celestial navigation, self steering vane, 2 spinnaker/whisker poles, production full keel boat under 36'.
So in essence this boat is the big sister of one of the most highly regarded high latitude capable offshore sailing boats ever built, if I'm not mistaken the last edition of the GGR featured 5 or 6 Rustlers and were the overall winning boat, several did get dismasted and/or damaged to the point of abandonment, but so did several other boats. I'd have one in a heartbeat, GREAT boats.
Please correct me if I'm not entirely accurate, I am going on my general sailing and boat knowledge so I'd be happy to be corrected or confirmed.
42' cutter rigged masthead sloop with hank on staysail and runners is a great overall size and rigging configuration for a cruising boat, just needs the appropriate hydrovane and probably a self tacker for the staysail and it would tick just about all the boxes.
Did Rustler ever do a center cockpit??

I would agree. With exception of the hydrovane. These are robust, but not very powerful and effective. Better choosing a Monitor, Windpilot or Aries for trouble free transozeanic sailing.

Might be a silly question, but what is the safety concern with the orcas?

    • @drxym

They've been attacking boats around the coast of Spain.

These Orcas obviously purposely damage the rudders of sailingboats. Nobody knows why. Also Halcyone boat deliveries have been victims of this violent orca pod.

While i have never owned a british built yatch i am told they use a lot of "british" standard stuff which makes for a maintenance nightmare outside the UK. Is this true??
