I love how this movie subverts your expectations. In any other horror movie, Luke might have ended up actually having to protect Ashley from *insert generic horror villain here* after his little fake home invasion was revealed. Instead though, Luke is *THE* horror villain, an entitled, smarmy, selfish little bastard of a villain and I not only love to hate him, but I love to root for Ashley to escape from him. This movie is totally an underrated gem more people should check out.
The movie ended on somewhat of a cliffhanger when Luke told his mom he wants to visit Ashley at the hospital, meaning he might try and go kill her before she confesses what happened.
Likely won't happen in the slightest. I take that his "desire to see Ashley at the hospital" is his last attempt to get away with murder. Her survival destroyed all of his plans. Garrett, Ashley's boyfriend, and Ashley's ex-boyfrriend are all corpses in his house. Everything he could've gotten away with; now unraveled because she survived. She is capable of telling everything she witnessed. It'll cause an in-depth investigation which will end in Jake's conviction because of his efforts to clean up matters. I don't believe a sequel is needed, nor would it make this movie better. The whole story is that "You're not as smart as you think." Jake constantly fooled everyone in his life. Elaborately lying to everyone so he could get his way. He thought he researched the perfect murder plan and thought he'd get through it all. But multiple things occurred that caused diversions in his plans. - Ashley refused to drink and fought back every time she could. - Garrett's attempt to free Ashley ended in Jake murdering him, adding an unexpected body to the count. - Ashley's Boyfriend pissing himself thus getting Jake to clean up after him. - Ashley's survival trhrough her cunning and quick thinking.
did anyone realize when he was talking about Jeremy around 17:40 he said “there may be stranger things going on here” and jeremy is played by dacre montgomery who plays billy😂
I really wished there was an extra scene with us seeing him actually getting caught. Like this ending is great and I love it but seeing actually get arrested and have to live the consequences would have been the best.
Something I’ve noticed. At 2:37, the game they’re playing is “The Forest”. A survival game where your stuck on an island fighting for your life. Minus the plot of the game, I think that it’s a perfect fit for this movie
How? He’s an insanely intelligent and sociopathic killer? (for a 12 year old of course) In my opinion if Ashley died then I would have enjoyed the ending a little more.
@@ceirami8540 Personally I wanted to see Lucas get beat tf up. The movie was still good though but I'm happier Ashley lived. Lil boy out of order. This movie made me low-key not want kids anymore 😭
It’s honestly so satisfying to see Ashley win in the end, he tried so hard to do this whole night right, but she made it out, and hopefully when she recovers she’ll reveal it all
Well, this is rebuffed when they show the mid-credits scene where Luke convinces his parents to go "pay Ashley a visit" at the hospital, showing that he'll possibly get away with it still.
Even then, there’s no way a well off American family will ever lose in court against the testimony of one witness especially when the suspect is a child. She’s dead or guilty nonetheless.
@@phoenixmorphix counterpoint, that witness is the VICTIM, yes a normal witness, prob not, but she went through it, she was the one in the situation, thus her word is way more reliable than a child who is the accused, especially a rich bastard of a child
@@phoenixmorphix well, the whole case is predicated on the idea that Jeremy killed them all, then himself. Ashley was supposed to be a victim whose future was tragically cut short. He planned the whole thing out to tell that story. He was asleep in bed, that's his alibi. He wouldn't know what went down, he couldn't. If he did, how'd he get in his bed with the pencil in his door? His own alibi means he can't be a witness. Checkmate.
You know on paper Luke lost but with real world affects, I doubt police would believe that a 12 year old boy killed this many in one night with no lethal injuries. Honestly it’s probably gonna go down in a “no one gets punished cause police are incompetent/ one guy gets punished way too late cause police are incompetent” sense
Yeah I found the ending pretty unsatisfying tbh. Like, sure, it heavily points to Luke not getting away with it, but I wanted to _watch_ him coming face-to-face with the consequences
I disagree. There is enough evidence that Luke couldn't cover up that even I can think of. Including time of death not matching, fingerprints missing where it should be, rope burns on the tree from pulling the body, prints on the roof in the snow matching an adolescent, evidence missing where it should be like where did the weed butt go? They would find it heavily concentrated. The likelihood a child could sleep through all that and would he have been in bed during times of death. The more I think about it the easier it falls apart.
@@Alphasnowbordergirl this exactly. anyone who thought about it long enough would realise how quickly it would fall apart, because the plan was made by a 12yo boy who thinks he's a genius who knows everything
i would assume it's based loosely on the real life 15-year-old who killed his whole family. the interview footage is on youtube, reminds me a lot of this
Not me. I started watching knowing there was a HUGE twist that presented itself early. Glad I knew this because I never would of given the movie the time of day. The last time I went into a movie not knowing anything, it turned out to be a secretary walking around her office, talking to her boss on a intercom for over an hour. I was so mad, and promised I would have to know what a movie is about before wasting my time. That’s just me though.
@@flamingoseatshrimps1361 The assistant. It has a decent rating, but I was bored out of mind. When it finally ended, I was mad. BIG MAD. I wanted to throw something at the wall for wasting my damn time. That’s why the trailer didn’t reveal anything. There was literally nothing but her walking around. Never again. Nope. I need to know thoroughly what a movie is about before I EVER waste my time like that again. I’m glad people in the comments was saying “Better Watch out” had a good twist, because if not, I would’ve kept it moving. That’s just me though.
I mean yeah cuz it means nothing. They aren't leaving that house because THEY HAVE TO stay for questioning and she'll just tell the cops at the hospital he did it before they put her in Op. Plus if Luke claims he was 100% asleep then he will need no medical attention, so he doesn't need to be sent to the hospital. Luke, and his parents are going to be grilled on Luke's friend (ESPECIALLY LUKE since his friend is dead) her boyfriend, and ex. Because honestly if I was questioning them I would be suspicious as hell why Luke's friend was even around if he was asleep? Like yeah he's dead but that doesn't explain why some 11 year old is there at his friends place as his ass is passed out from pills with 3 literal 18+ year olds. Luke really fucked this up by killing his friend because its the one thing that is the outlier in this "3 way 18+_ year old murder"
Despite what the ending implies in the credits "I'm worried about her, can we go an check on her at the hospital?" YALL REALIZE the parents called the cops lol. The whole family has to stay there and be questioned. There's literally no "Oh excuse us officers, we're going to be leaving to follow the ambulance". Even the kid who they will claim was asleep has to stay. With the body count there's going to be INTENSE questioning for everyone about everyone elses's relationship with the victims. Since she's still pretty lucid, she'll have more enough opportunity to tell them who actually did it before they put her in operation. So despite what some are thinking, 100% this kid is getting caught.
I don’t think they will make a sequel since it was made in 2016 and anyway they can’t shoot it this year because of the virus which probably means the kids will be too old and I think it’s better with a mystery at the end for what’s gonna happen
Some things you left out is how luke only wanted his mother to hold him and at the end his mother was holding him again. And another cometic scene where luke says “there is is so many wonderful uses for duck tape” and that’s what ash puts on her neck. I watched it last night and am so happy I watched the movie first before this. It was a big psychological thriller
This movie was genuinely uncomfortable to watch. With it’s sad and shocking kills, tone of a slightly funny action movie, and memories of being that young made it so weird to witness. 10/10
I've had two people simp for me. One has ultimately gotten better and well-adjusted, but the other? I genuinely wouldn't doubt that he'd try to do something like this, only less gracefully nd way more whiney.
I just watched this movie for the first time and I really liked how they clearly referenced Home Alone with the paint can scene, which helps boost the idea that Luke is a similar character to Kevin. Then when Ricky dies it hits home that this is the darker more realistic version of Home Alone since it's what would have REALLY happened to Marv and Harry when Kevin spiked the cans at them...
Then make it a saga by having the kid all grown up, and come to get revenge called "Santa's coming to town." Where he dresses up as a mall Santa or some shit
How tf did he think he was getting away with this 😭. Even if Ashley died his Fingerprints are on goddamn everything, gunshot residue is on him, blood def on him too, if he goes to “visit” Ashley it’d be so obvious that he was the one who killed her I-

Maximos Dellis what she kills him?
Maximos Dellis that could work
Likely won't happen in the slightest.

Something I’ve noticed. At 2:37, the game they’re playing is “The Forest”. A survival game where your stuck on an island fighting for your life. Minus the plot of the game, I think that it’s a perfect fit for this movie

Abbyy Marie oh god

The police will believe it once they hear the whole story.

Sara McGrath well, in a way that makes me admire him, but at the same time making me want to slowly strangle the kid to death.
I love the fact that he skipped the last part when Luke saying to his mom that he wanted to go to the hospital to see Ashley is doing fine.
@Kamareon Davis really, or did I missed something ?
There is actually an end credits scene where Luke says he wants to visit Ashley in the hospital. I smell a Halloween 2 type sequel! Hospital style
