As someone who is not into cEDH personally (at least not yet), I think there’s a fantastic general rule you’re pointing out here, and something to keep in mind not only in building a Commander deck, but in life and in our pursuits more broadly. Work (and play!) around your strengths, rather than trying to be what others think is the best line. You end up more creative that way and sharpening/enriching what is most unique about you. 😊 Thanks as always for your great videos Rebell! ❤
cEDH became so indulgent with good stuff that someone saying "¡if you are gonna play a fringe commander dont try to force it to be a bad version of the meta deck also try synergies" is refreshing
I had been looking for a take like this on Will! You made it so much clearer to find the direction! I probably wont push him into cedh but you certaily made me think of fun ways to look at it!
Honestly I love Will so much. Even though he doesn't get as much love as Rowan, dropping 2 mana Baneslayer Angels or Lyra's does just tend to kill people!! I doubt it's enough for cEDH, but in a more staxx focused list, I could see some kind of almost tempo style plan? Stick a threat, protect it, disrupt your opponent at key windows. Use your (now very undercosted) big flying beaters to pressure their life totals, whilst still gaining you life and enabling you to play out potentially more things. All with the option of a potential combo wincon, and the option to do stuff like 1 mana Archon, or Rule of Law, to help prevent others from interacting with you! No idea if this has any legs, I just really wanna see something like Baneslayer kill someone in cEDH lmao
Yeah couldn’t agree more - don’t try to jam good stuff - try to make a good deck ! And honestly even certain things a that are considered so busted are just that way bc of meta and typical play patterns. A la Dockside for example. Wheels are an example of cards that are terrible in isolation bc they give opponents so many cards, but situationally potentially game winning.
I'm a little confused by cutting drown in dreams while including stroke of genius. Is there some kind of interaction that makes drown not strictly better?
I think it would be helpful for new players to discuss how you discover those lines of play. New players such as my self don’t have all the knowledge to rely on to think them up on the spot .
I like the idea a lot, but I don't understand how the decklist you posted would ever generate enough life reliably to cast for a reduction of 6. A hushbringer attack here and a few incidental spells will hardly allow you to get a reduction of 6. The density of reliable lifegain seems way to low.
Mimeoplasm has been a commander thay i feel could be unconventionally broken. Then Indominus Rex, Alpha (Ira) makes me think maybe there is something here. Okay ya, greater good +foodchain works but sultai has got to have better creature combos...Hulk lines...Razaketh? Mikaeus? No no Bisy...Inalla tho! NO! Worldgorger Evelyn you have mount doom and Broodlord lines dude!!! But how do u grind? Ur not fast enough...sh*t... And now im back to my true love Thrasios/Vial "CatFish Soup v2.0" How the hell do channel my inner Rebell? Tell me ur ways!!!
I get this is for cEDH, but saying "don't just try to play good cards in the color, find ways to make a good deck by looking outside the common cards" and then posting a 2,300$ dollar deck list in the description seems a bit... pointless. I at least thought for a second there was going to be an attempt to make something good without every single meta card in the game.

Every time I see a new video I start budgeting to join the Patreon. Love seeing your content
i really like your deck building philosophy on this one reminds me of how i generally tend to approach decks

A good niche card for Will is Iceberg. It's super strange, but it essentially turns any cost reduction into colourless mana.
This was so cool. I’m LOVING your content.
Wouldn't Minamo, School at Water's Edge be an auto-include? Having an extra untap from lands seems pretty strong in this sort of deck.
minamos in the list
Love this

Been brewing will a ton lately and wanted to find other people brewing

I tried to pull this combo off with Azo Heliod, this might be a better fit, lol
Can you make a cedh Chun Li deck?

My suggestion is to look up a desired effect, then read every card that has that effect. eventually you’ll have a pretty solid line of options
