Great News! After listening to feedback HEIPI have adapted their Quick Release Clamp on the tripod head to fit most Arca-swiss plates on the market. We'll now be able to use it even with the little PD straps attached that I use for my sling! Can't wait to receive the final product 😁

Long time Peak Design Travel tripod user (3+ years now, was an original backer). The HEIPI looks to me to be the PD V2... improved head (true ball head), legs (thicker finals) and feet (built in spikes and can use any 3rd party). This tripod was so interesting I backed it and may wind up selling off my PD, if it performs better... and is more stable, even at the cost of it being ever so slightly bigger and heavier.
My biggest gripe with the PD is they should have made the hex tool in the same form factor as the removable phone mount. Since I never use it, it be nice to yank it and stow the hex tool in its place. Having said that, I have been very happy with the PD... it is so small and easy to carry/pack.

Thanks for the review. I love the design, weight, and the load capacity (hope it will work as claimed). My concerns are:
    1. The stability of the center column when extended: How will the design (with open channels when extended) stand wind gusts vs. a solid design?
    2. The snap-in arca-swiss (AS) mount: How secure will it be? Also, the design appears to work with AS QR plates of specific sizes with very little leeway. Compatibility with other QR plates is always a concern. That's why I still love my 20+ years-old ballheads with AS mount as the original screw-in mechanism works very well.
For those who claimed this tripod is a "clone" of the Peak Design tripod, I would say the only things that are shared by these two tripods are:
    1. They both have three carbon fiber legs.
    2. The both use snap cam lever for leg extension and the shapes look very similar.
    3. The snap-in AS mount (looks similar but not exactly the same if you look closely.)
Other than these, the two tripods are very different. The PD tripod features very unique shaped legs and center column for space saving. The Heipi one has traditional round legs and a very innovative center column/second tripod for its space-saving design. The PD ballhead is "reversed" with the ball built-in to the center column while the Heipi has a traditional ballhead (with a pretty big ball).
I am not saying one is better than the other. I just say that are different, indeed very different....

Before watching the video, I can comment that this is indeed the perfect travel tripod for me. This thing is friggin amazing. So fast to deploy, so versatile, impressive load capacity (especially compared to the Peak one at the same price point), super easy handling, and yet so lightweight and compact. Seriously, get one if you can afford one. If not, save for one. It is so worth it.
Disclaimer: I don't work for Heipi, and I'm not on their payroll in any shape or form. That thing just convinced me with smart design, and impressive specs and features :)

I am in the market for a tripod. I like most of the features you demonstrated on screen and the versatility of this tripod. Do not care for the extra tight fit of the plate and the small knob and lever on the head. Hopefully, the manufacturer will correct these shortcomings in future iterations.

I really like that you use the bigger tripod as a support to shade yourself and use the smaller tripod. for the low-angle shooting. Interesting! Speaking of the peak design plates and anchors... how secure is the PD plate WITHOUT the anchors? My only reservation about this is that they keep suggesting in their replies on KS that PD plates at 38mm will apparenlty not be as secure as their 39mm plate will. I attach my anchors to a SmallRig L bracket so I don't have them on the plate itself (I don't have a superzoom that needs a tripod foot, so no worries there) and while I'm currently backing them, I am concerned that the PD plate itself won't be as tightly locked in because it's 1mm narrower, letting the camera wobble just a bit. So how secure is the camera wiht a PD plate and no anchors when locked into their head? To be honest, I have the PD travel tripod and was mostly attracted to this because of the mini-tripod, the better phone mount, and the head itself addresses a few complaints I have about the PD tripod head... so I was looking at this as a replacement that is the same size and weight that fixes some of the things that annoy me about the PD one.

Thanks for the great video Espen, you have a new subscriber! I have a question that you might be able to help me with. It appears that the Heipi's not so compatible with Arca-Swiss quick release plate due to a 1 mm size different (Heipi at 39mm x 39mm and Arca-Swiss at 38mm x38mm). In your video you show attaching your lens with an Arca-Swiss foot and yet you attached the Heipi plate to it. Is this because the fit of your lens foot was not tight enough? Is the fit tight and secured with a standard Arca-Swiss plate? Can you adjust the tension if not? I have L-brackets on all my cameras and Arca Swiss plates on all my long lenses. I love the idea of this most innovative Heipi travel tripod, but if it is not Arca-Swiss compatible is a deal breaker! Thanks in advanced and looking forward to more of your videos.

Never heard of them before. Hopefully they actually deliver a decent product unlike most kickstarters. I'll wait it out until they are on sale instead of backing it. $300+ for a potentially great product vs $300 + for an already existing tripod like the Ulanzi F38 or Peak Design and know what you are already getting. It's a tough sell but it looks promising...just like many kickstarters haha

Great point there Jay in regards Kickstarter. Used them several times and lucky for me the products where always delivered (eventually). However when you factor in delivery charge, tax, import duties, transaction & purchase fee's, it kinda takes the shine off the fact you get a campaign discount to begin with. I was *almost* ready to back this tripod until you showed how it couldn't fit a plate with Peak Design's anchor links. I use a PD hand clutch and 2 anchor links on the QR plate of my supertelephoto and this seems like a concerning issue. I don't feel safe putting my 3.5kg set up on that. What's your thought? Do you feel like they can address this issue or I am better off using a different ball head?

    • @EspenHelland
      @EspenHelland  Год назад

Either using a different ball head or changing the plate have been my options so far. If I'm going out mostly using a tripod I'll just change the plate. I hope they will come up with a good solution for it.

    BEWARE.
Most of us who paid for this tripod on Indiegogo have not received our tripods, which are now three months late. We were supposed to receive our tripods in March, but the shipping date has been pushed back two or three times. We were promised that we would receive our tripods in May. As of May 31, we have no tripod (at least those of in the US and Europe). HEIPI has stopped responding to requests for updated shipping information.
However, backers of HEIPI's Kickstarter campaign for this tripod have received their tripods as of early May. HEIPI is responding to backers on their Kickstarter campaign.
This is very disconcerting to say the least for those of us who are backers of the Indiegogo campaign.
