  • This is the process of lowering the casket and sealing the Burial Vault. This task is performed either in front of the family, in front of 1 or 2 family members that stay behind, or under the supervision of the funeral director.
Families may chose what takes place at this time, it is our honor to perform this task in their presence if they so wish.

I totally respect your work. It's incredible to watch you work. People don't see the hard work behind the scenes that men like you do. I was always taught that there's a special place in heaven for people as yourself. God Bless you sir.

This guy is incredible. Doing all this on his own but also with the deepest respect for the departed. He’s always dressed up wearing a tie and taking his time and all with extreme care. There’s a special place for you in front of the pearly gates. What an incredibly beautiful vault.

I have never seen someone take so much pride and care and have so much respect for not only his work and the casket/vault, but for the deceased as well. I’ve usually just seen two guys doing what he’s doing…but they usually just wear jeans and t-shirts. They don’t necessarily go out of their way to do a shitty job, but they aren’t doing it like this guy does. They lower the casket into the vault that’s already in the ground, and then lower the lid onto the vault and step down on it to make sure it’s in place. Sure, that works, I guess…but it seems a little disrespectful, especially compared to how this guy does it. Much neater here.

Comes a time when you have to just say good bye. Even with the beautiful casket and vault. You can't stop decomposition. If the money is there to give a nice burial then use it. To know you put them to a restful sleep, that should-I hope, give you some comfort.

How is the vault itself sealed to prevent water ingress? With some special waterproof glue or silicone around the seam between the lid and the vault itself?

I believe that a butyl tape is used. Similar to what is used to seal automotive windshields to the the body of the vehicle. It's very strong and makes for a tight waterproof seal.

The design of the vault top edge is a V shape that fits into the vault top channel. The vault top as mentioned above has butyl in the channel. The V pierces the buytl surface to seal it. Wilbert vaults seal this way. There are RUclips video's that show how it works. Butyl is also used to seal windows on a passenger airplane.

@@timw8228 Pretty much all main-stream vaults in the U.S seal this way.

I just can't comprehend people spending all that money to have it buried in the ground. But to each their own
