This Park sign describes "the Snake"
"You are standing at the top of curves that road enthusiasts affectionately call "The Snake". Over the years Mulholland Highway has tested the merits of cars from Duesenbergs to Teslas. This particular stretch of road is a mecca for motorcyclists. It's sharp turns offer an adrenaline rush and a chance for fun, fame and often folly.
To your left is "Edwards Corner". It was named after the late Ed Savko, long-time owner of the Rock Store., a popular road house just down the hill. Hundreds of riders have (----) on this challenging 180- degree curve, perhaps showing off for spectators, who often gather here. Other succumb safely to the charm of "The Snake." "

No traction advantage, drop in top end power, it would also be a lot heavier. Cross planes are made to smooth out performance for liter bikes. 600's are smooth as it is. The reason they shifted from inline to cross plane was to give more usable power to the rider, it's a non issue in a 600. There really is no reason for it....

Same as it always has been for stock r6's.
Yamaha uses every cubic cm of that can to meet Euro4 noise regulations. You're gonna replace it anyway probably. The shape is likely to keep internal volume up and weight down.
those dang r6 bikes have always been the best looking 600 since they came out long ago best feeling small light and comfortable wise in fact i need one of those

AS I am old now these lighter bikes are the ticket. They aren't litre fast but with my clean license that is a blessing. R6 is the one.

I've never been into supersport bikes and will probably never own one, but they sure look cool!
I personally like the previous generation r6 better but the new one still looks really good.

This thing just needs a proper exhaust and then It would be perfection.
I knew these lovely bikes would easily sell even with people complaining that it's "not new", I believe that it *is* new, they changed enough of IMO.
Either way it doesn't matter how much hate a bike gets, they will *always* sell, I mean bad bikes sell, you think a good one won't because you don't like it? To me, the more variety on the streets the better, our streets are still flooded with GSXR 1000's and Harleys.
Death666wish my problem with it is that it looks recycled from the R1. Yamaha used to be unique in that their 600cc and 1000cc models looked considerably different. The same can't be said for the other Japanese bikes. I often have trouble telling the gsxr's and kawasaki's apart (although due to the fairings on the new zx10r it's now more obvious.) Call be bias because I ride a 2008 r6, but I just don't think it looks as good as the previous model.
I personally like the looks, it's more streamlined than the R1 is. Still, they're not identical the way the Kawasakis were.

Good new's is they they might now have to wait 6 months to get a new exhaust for it being the same engine and all that!
I could be mistaken but I believe they offer these with the option of an Akrapovic add-on from the factory.

Hill Top adds unnecessary weight to the bike and r6 doesn't need aid from traction drive that a cross plane crank provides, unlike the r1.

the new r6 doesn't make any sense in buying it. it has less power than the previous unless you buy the extra kit with full exhaust and retuning the ecu. For this money you almost buy a liter bike. only pros is the front suspension

upshift93 even with upgraded brakes, i don't think is worth it to puy full price for an old bike,just because it looks like the r1. Yamaha is really smart though, knows that the 600 are over, so didnt envest any time of rebuilding this bike and with the same technology, are going to make millions.

Arlis Hermlin abs kit just because of euro 4 regulations and makes the bike heavier also. traction control not that sophisticated. they just put whatever had in their shelves without any serious development.
loukas koutsouris yeah but it all adds up. 600cc class is dying though, I'm glad we got any sort of update at all on this bike. This is probably the final generation of the bike

Hence why I just stick with used bikes. At least when you crash you aren't burning 15k down the drain but rather 5k.
You are absolutely right sir. But the 2006-2009 can be and that's what I was referring to. The new R6 is obviously an improvement from the previous generation but not by much according to many reviews. So my argument stands, you can pay for a brand new 2017 R6 for about 14k OTD or you can get a good condition used 2008 for 5K. I have a 2007 CBR600RR in excellent condition and paid five thousand for it.
All reasonable arguments you make for sure. ABS is definitely a great add on but don't forget I can get a 2009 with ABS and pay a lot less than 9,000. The quickshifter you mentioned doesn't come standard on the new R6 only as an option. I totally understand where you are coming from though. Me personally, I am on a budget and I am a street rider. Hence why I got the CBR and the not R6. Even so, I think there is extreme value in paying 5k-6k for a used good condition R6 with low miles and well maintained. At least to me. If I had more money MAYBE I could justify paying 9k for a motorcycle but its hard for me to rationalize that when I can pay 6k for a great used model. The 5k I paid for my CBR, I basically got lucky with that and there was a lot of haggling. In conclusion, my argument is this: You can pay 5-6k or you can pay 9k, for the street will the difference really be worth an extra 3k? You can find a stock 2008 bike and use the 3k dollars for mods if you feel like it. Just my opinion though, I do admit though the new R6 is one sexy ass motorcycle though!
The new R6 doesn't have a fuel meter because Yamaha is all about the track. In many ways I respect Yamaha because they literally tell the consumer "This bike is meant to be on a track. We don't care about your street life." Got to respect a brand that refuses to compromise performance for street life. That being said, I am a street rider and Honda tells its consumer "We know you ain't going to the track and going to stay on the street. If you go to track, ehhh its whatever". Yamaha is my second favorite brand behind Honda. If the R6 was more street friendly it would be in my garage in a heartbeat. An excellent brand for sure.
