I just bought it and for only $29 you can not beat this Swiss army knife of a plugin!!!!
Can't beat it for $29
I love this plugin! Was really biased towards it at first thinking "oh just another one trick pony attempt" but I was really surprised how well it doesn't just only work on the master bus but how much I love it when actually mixing.
wish I could use it
Great deal too. I was expecting the price to be much higher.
What format do you need it in?
Very clear explanation of what this plugin actually does without pushing an agenda unlike some other videos I watched on this plugin haha. Thank you! :)
Great review as always Mike!
Of the newer plugins on the market that are of this type (kinda simple, meant for bus processing, finalizing, hyping, etc.), this one is my favorite. It has the right amount of control, it's not overly complex, and it give me results. It's pretty good at getting a good sound really fast on a rough mix, but where it really shines is on the stems when the mix is almost done. It can help focus the tonality of the entire stem, which can help adjust things so that there is just a little more separation. It also hypes things up in a really cool way if the mix is already solid (not so much if the mix has problems, as it will tend to magnify them, but that's to be expected). The clipper / limiter is something that is very welcome. The difference is subtle, but it's there, and this is the only plugin that I know of that has an easy way of comparing the two modes.
For those wondering, this isn't only for EDM either. I'm using it on a Mariachi album and it's working out great! On the violins stem, the widener combined with the magic and highs knob, really puts a nice final touch on the strings. On the guitarra / vihuela / guitarron stem, it tightens up the low end, and allows me to hone in on the exact tonality of the guitarra / vihuela, and excite them slightly so that they pop out nicely.
I might be able to get similar results with other tools (not sure though, because this one seems to hype things in a unique way), but why take the long way when the short cut is available, and the results are just as good if not better?
I was gonna pass on this one. Glad I didn't.
Thanks 2 Tone Tony!
I was pleasantly surprised as by this one as well. That said, It's easy to overuse. Also agree it is good for more than just EDM.
Cheers!
Mike
Yes. After listening to the mixes with fresh ears, I had overused it (easy to do with a new toy). Things were too exited by the high and magic knob. Backed it off a bit and good to go!
Nice!
The limiter is great ..I used studio one limiter before and the headroom on this is way better
he left out the first step when using this, you set the input control to where it is green peaking with a touch of yellow, it will turn red when the signal is too strong
classy review as always
Cheers!
Thanks for another great rewiev, Mike!
Thanks Tom!
In the Waves tutorial video, they call the low control an "enhancer" rather than calling it a (low shelf) EQ and the stated context of the control is "spectral processing". I'm not sure what they mean by that. This can be found at about the 3:45 mark. The manual only refers to it as "low processing".
That probably means it works like a low end exciter rather than an EQ. Think Waves Vitamin/LoAir/MaxxBass
Bob Yatron Sounds about right. I wish they included some real tech info in the manual, which doesn't say much. I don't recall seeing the word EQ anywhere in the manual.
Yes, I think the Low is more MaxxBass technology. and I think the Body is more Vitamin style processing. The manual is very light on details.
Michael White Oh, ok, well that sheds some light on it. Thanks. I bought it, I'm really impressed by this thing at the intro price. Almost worth $29 just for the clipper, IMO.
And whatever is happening with the "magic" knob is great too. Very good at focusing drums without making them seem artificially forward.
