@@Mryodamiles overripe and mushy is actually how Malaysians like to eat them, though that might be too mushy. But we usually use the really mushy ones in curries and stews, after fermenting them into "tempoyak".
Mango and papaya are mainstream fruits in the US as well. The episode wasn't specifically about uncommon fruit, just tropical fruit, I guess. Though I will say that the big supermarket in my little city in mid-coast Maine rarely carries fresh papaya anymore. They used to. I asked about it and they said not enough people buy them. But I would buy them all the time if they were there. So I think there might be another reason.
As usual Ayesha exaggerated her credentials. She wasn't ON the mango board. She was one of their influencer partnerships and that entailed featuring mangos as her favorite ingredient.
Durian… South East Asia (not just Indonesia)… Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia. So many varieties and has become somewhat of a popular delicacy in China now. I grew up with it since my family has a durian orchard… As a kid, I didn’t like it, but as an adult, I love it. It’s like a smelly creamy and sweet custard. And you need to have a GOOD one to really appreciate it because if you get a bad one, it just won’t do. Usually, the exported ones (especially to America), aren’t so great. I reckon Brad would appreciate a good one because good ones have a sweet and somewhat fermented flavour. Also, REALLY dense in nutrients, so that’s why it’s been nicknamed the King of fruits.
Dragon fruit are also called pitayas and they do grow on cacti which happens to be a cousin of sorts to the prickly pear and are a bit similar in taste and colors
My best guess is that they didn't throw it away! In kitchens they try to waste as little as possible, so they probably just set it aside, maybe let the crew or other people in the area try it as well!
That's how I felt about jackfruit! It looks almost identical to the durian but IDK much about if they're related or anything like that. The jackfruit, even not fully ripe, had the flavor of Juicy Fruit bubble gum. Like pineapple, mango, and banana had a baby. It's SOOOO tasty and I can't wait to get my hands on it again!
BRAD IN A FLORAL SHIRT ALERT! Also, In south east Asia they do fermented durian. If Brad didn't like the smell already, wait till he gets a whiff of it fermented!

As a person who lived mostly in the tropics, it’s funny to me how they describe tropical fruits as exotic or cosmic or out of this world. Lmao. To me some of these are backyard fruits, as common as apple or lemon would be for their region 😂🤣🙈
