Back in 2016, I changed out the head bolts with ARP head studs, so I also put in the SLS valve buckets and billet idler pulleys in my 2010 S63. I haven’t had the lifter tick since then.
My G500 has developed this annoying ticking sound after sitting for a couple of months. The interesting thing is that there are only 29 miles since my last Mobil 1 0W-40 synthetic oil change. I greatly appreciate the time you have put into creating this helpful video. The additive seems like a wise step for multiple reasons. Thank you
I’ve tried both oil change techniques and prefer the classic method on my c63. The oil cooler has about half a liter of oil in it. Change it every 6 months no matter what the mileage. I’m using M1 5w40 European formula. It has the highest levels of zinc which has a cushioning effect on the lifters also. All the M1 mb229.5 approved oils have the same amount. Just a little more time and you remove virtually all the oil. So far no ticking on my 2013.
I'm not sure if these engines are the same but on the M113, it has a non-return valve between the oil pump and block which keeps much of the oil in the top-end from draining back into the sump.
I have a ML63. If the car has been sitting, the cam shafts will compress the oil out of a compressed lifter and you will get a tick for a few seconds on a cold start. This is normal until the oil flows back in. If the oil is cold and thick, it might take a few more seconds, but will stop ticking. If your engine is ticking at normal idle, then you have true lifter tick issue. I also let the car come off high idle to normal idle before moving the car. This should also put less stress on valve train. The joy of race engine inspired design.
As an FCP Euro employee. I'm glad that we're supporting other fellow M156 owners! Question: were you getting lifter tick all the time, or still just during startup like most people experience? My M156 went from dead silent, to some tick, to constant tick within a few days. Trying to be... calm.
Sick video and sick car! I, unfortunately, had this lifter tick. Upon opening the valve cover, one lifter on the driverside upper bank was so bad, it had a hole in it. The adjacent cam was extremely worn. I bit the bullet and replaced all the lifters with the upgraded black series lifters and changed all 4 cams. It wasn't cheap, to say the least haha, next step is replacing the plate in the cam adjuster with 63motorsports version so I won't have to deal with that issue in the future.

Generally speaking, this is pretty generic stuff for engines with hydraulic lifters. But if your engine tick is loud even when the car is completely warmed up then it might be a different issue
I just noticed this noise after doing some work on my car, it is a 2010 e550 coupe. Is there any other reason for this noise? I've been having a starting issue intermitently that i've heard could be fuel injectors or the fuel pump. Could fuel injectors cause this? I'm tempted just to try this product on my engine and see if it does something. Oh yea I also have a leaking oil filter/cooler housing but it leaks about a quart every 4 months and I always fill it up as soon as I get the indication.
Engines are sensitive to have low oil. If at anytime your engine oil level is low, you could starve some areas. Fuel injectors are usually fine unless stuck open or gummed up. Depending on mileage you may need to replace them. Honestly, there are so many things that could cause a weird start I don’t know where to begin
@@skrrtgarage3922 sorry I should have been more specific. It is a hard start that happens with very long cranking. Usually when I tap the pedal during long cranking it turns over.
@@skrrtgarage3922 So you are saying lifter additive, then drive , then change the oil and just add mos2 or add both the lifter additive AND mos2 after the oil change?
Marvel Mystery Oil. "Ticking lifters are a nasty symptom. It wears both your patience and your engine lifespan thin. Another benefit of using the Marvel Mystery Oil as an oil additive is that it takes care of the symptom for you. A reason for ticking lifters may be built up oil deposits, which prevent the pushrods or camshaft to make contact with the lifters. Through its cleaning properties, the Mystery Oil can make all deposits disappear for an obstruction-free motion of all moving parts of your engine."
@@skrrtgarage3922 Its been around for 100 years. I use 8 oz in every F-Type oil fill and my oil comes out clean. But I run overall 0W35 and change oil every 1500 miles (filter goes to 15,000) to keep the GDI soot minimal. Don't use MMO in 0W20, as SAE 20 is already rated for economy driving only in GF6 form. GF5 0W-20 that Jag recommends was discontinued in May 2020 by ILSAC for poor engine protection in GDIs leading to premature timing chain and bearing failures. MMO is only SAE 3. So you need to balance it with some higher SAE oil to achieve your target weight.

@@vWaLLBangz Na yo I switched to 229.5spec 5w40 and never heard a single unusual engine noise even cold ever again. mobil 1 0w40 is shit oil too thin and not good on these engines especially when they get some km on it
If the tick is due to the lifters the additive will solve the problem. It may still tick for a bit after start up. When the engine sits for a while enough oil drains so the problem comes back. An engine flush, oil change with an additive is an option. The problem is ultimately due to a design flaw.
I didn't know made oil pumps like that to change the oil. Is that typically for sports cars? I drive a truck, the old fashioned way works just fine for me
Its a better idea to pump oil out, that way you never wear out your steel drain plug in aluminum threads. In some cars, like Jags, theres a pump nipple, so draining takes 3 to 5 minutes start to finish, with no jacking or decladding the bottom. Even without a built-in pump nipple its a 4-5 min job.

@@russellmaguire4316 , did your tick issue go away after the oil change? Perhaps, did you end up adding the additive?
My mechanic said I can leave the lifter sound alone and it won’t do any harm besides making noise, is that true ?
Ive been told those engines are harsh on mounts. Rec replacing every 5 years or so. Or upgrade from oem to the black series mounts.
They certainly are, most mounts get replaced between 60-120k miles
look into eastcoasteuro engine mounts. Better than BS mounts, but you get a slight tiny vibration at stop light.
Mine made it to 120k then the driver side leaked out and that was after beating the shit out of it since 2019 with 55k miles on the car
How long did you drive?
Ice lo que insiste y funcionó gracias por haora
Is it safe to do this even if I don’t have a lifter tick?
I have a 2009 c63
Yes absolutely
Did you add both the lifter additive & Mos2 additive after the oil change?
Yes, lifter additive first. Then once you change the oil you can use ceritec or mos2 additive
@@skrrtgarage3922 So you are saying lifter additive, then drive , then change the oil and just add mos2 or add both the lifter additive AND mos2 after the oil change?
Hello witch adative did you put in first to run the car hard
The lifter additive
Marvel Mystery Oil.
"Ticking lifters are a nasty symptom. It wears both your patience and your engine lifespan thin. Another benefit of using the Marvel Mystery Oil as an oil additive is that it takes care of the symptom for you. A reason for ticking lifters may be built up oil deposits, which prevent the pushrods or camshaft to make contact with the lifters. Through its cleaning properties, the Mystery Oil can make all deposits disappear for an obstruction-free motion of all moving parts of your engine."
I haven’t used that product before, how do you like it?
@@skrrtgarage3922
Its been around for 100 years.
@@skrrtgarage3922 I never had this tick until I did oil change. Had 5w40. Drain it, added Mobil 1 0w40, startup it up 5 min took off ramp shut off. Started next day, lifter tick first time for couple min, went away. Never came back.... how would that get clogged from oil change
@@multiblade04 interesting man I like to see the feedback
@@vWaLLBangz Na yo I switched to 229.5spec 5w40 and never heard a single unusual engine noise even cold ever again. mobil 1 0w40 is shit oil too thin and not good on these engines especially when they get some km on it
My Cl63 2008 engine has stopped worked suddenly, I had a lifter noise issue from before, please help!
Dang I’m sorry man, I wish I could help
Iv been told and have opened the oil cooler to allow the drainage to be completely drained
Liqui moly also has hydraulic lifter additive aside from mos2
Yea I used both in this video, thanks for the comment!
Maybe I missed it in the video what year is this car?
Can u put both at the same time with the oil change?
Yea you can, but I didn’t want to leave the lifter additive in there the whole time
@@skrrtgarage3922 Curious as to why?
My 15 C63 507 is making that noise too.. with only 22 k kms on the engine im pissed its happening so early
Yea these cars can be a little temperamental if not driven a lot
when would the Ceratec be used ?
When u add you’re new oil
my m113k has a tick if i don't start it everyday on cold start but it goes away after 5 10 mins would this work on the m113k engine too
If the tick is due to the lifters the additive will solve the problem.
Yea the pump isn’t totally necessary but it does make the job hella easy
@@skrrtgarage3922 I use an electric pump for my AMG SL63. I use 10w-60 Liqui moly and lubegard additive for engine . Incredible additive
Mercedes has lifter issues all around . My 2004 w203 had this lifter tick issue.
thank you
What Mercedes did you have before?
I used to have this same year c63 in a sedan
i also use the liquimoly with molygen in it( the green jug)
Right on, that’s good stuff.
The best oil I been telling people liqui moly people using motul that oil will really have your lifters making noise I got a video using motul & liqui moly my engine was loud with motul quiet with the liqui moly same as your using
Right on, yea I’m a believer in the liqui moly 👍🏼
Hi mate, can you send to me all that you used to do that please. Thx 🤜🤛
For sure bro. They are in the description box of this video!
I find my lifter tick starts as a result of hard driving. I usually add half a litre from my 1 liter boot tub of oil and it goes. 🤔
Interesting 🤔
good stuff
Thanks homie
Do you know what would happen to the car if you have that problem but still drive it?
If you have that issue and it’s not going away… then it will wear down your camshaft prematurely. It’s definitely something to fix quickly
@@skrrtgarage3922 so I have a 2013 c300 and it has that ticking noise, brought it to the dealer they took it to a local shop for them to check it out. I received a call and he went through all the diagnostic then after telling me what he checked, he goes ahead and tells me “the noise is normal” is that true?
@@lifewithnothing8167 yea its certainly possible its normal. Some cars have noisy injectors. As a general rule of thumb, if you can hear the "tick" loudly when the hood is NOT open... then it might be an issue.
Nice vid
Thanks!
Hey watch out what you say about Italians! 😂 nice trick for the tick
Hahah well that is my preferred tune up 😉
@@skrrtgarage3922 Epic car with beautiful HRE wheels! 👍
Is the additive compatible with the M278?
Lifter additive can be used in any car with traditional lifters.
Did you try it? I'm having issues with mine too.
Has the tick ever came back?
Nope! Thanks fully it’s gone
what about your oil cooler still have oil you can't drain it with a vacuum pump, I would recommend draining the cooler
Solid idea, I’ll do that next time
I owned w212 e63 m156, sound coming now, but if camshaft and lifters damaged, not need to change those parts? Just follow these steps and ignore what damaged at all?
It depends on how long the sound has been happening, wether it’s a consistent sound and the milage of the car.
Mine was clicking when accelerating & it would tick rapidly but I did let oil get a little low so I put liquid moly & I'm gonna change the oil
If your oil level is good, and a hard drive doesn’t solve the tick. Then it’s probably more serious, like bearings or something like that
What's the result bro?
@@BrokeLogic The results were I needed a whole new engine the crank shaft went on it & thankfully I still had the 70,000 mile drivetrain warranty on it, so Acura shipped me a brand new one from Japan for $8800 which they paid for, but I've since sold the car
@@djsthemetereman That's not very reassuring... I just got my truck back from a shop. They swapped the block and now it ticks. They want me to bring it back after my second week with it so they could do a full engine flush. I really don't think that's gonna work, I think it's beyond that point. We'll see I guess.
@@BrokeLogicHopefully everything works out for you & just to let you know my car wound up breaking down on my way to work & I had to get it towed so maybe have them do a more thorough diagnostic
Can i use mos2 with 0w40?
Yea you can use MOS2 with pretty much any oil
Bro your oil cooler??
I didn’t do the oil cooler this time 😬, it had only been 1k miles since my last change so the oil was basically still new.
Hi again,
What oil you recommend, Mobile 1 0w40 or
Liqui Moly 5w40?
Either are fine, the only difference is the viscosity of the oil when cold. The 0w40 is less viscous and better if you live in a cold environment. The 5W40 is a little more viscous and would be better if you liver in a warmer climate
@@skrrtgarage3922 yea mate! Make all sense, I see, I live in UK , so here is cold so 0w40 is better bro thank you so much, because of you I cancelled my service plan with mercrdes benz UK , and I bought this oil pump exactly same as your 🙏🏼 big thanks man

Nice Video but Why didn't you let us hear your engine after you finished.. you sort of screwed up the whole point of this Video Conor
The point is that YOU would notice if yours has been fixed or not, whether I show you normal sound or not doesn’t really matter
You forgot to drain the oil cooler located in front of the radiator!!!
I didn’t forget, it had only been 300 miles since the last oil change so I didn’t bother with the oil cooler.
