I have agree with those who hear a Moody Blues vibe to this. Their lack of a good lead singer held them back. I am glad you enjoyed this Justin because the best is yet to come on this album.
Personally I can't agree with you on the lack of a good lead singer. While I don't think he was amazing, to me the vocals fit the feeling of the music very well and the instrumental work becomes the star of the show, which is fine by me. That said, I can definitely see your point, most bands that had a lot of success had a very distinctive or charismatic singer... Also agree that the best is yet to come, pretty sure I know exactly what you're referring to!
When you feel the vocal melody sounds like the simplier folk tunes you know they achieved something that will stay with you. There aren't so many artists who can make it.
And now the twin guitars magic. Iron Maiden has a lot to owe to this band. Always loved this song. It's the first album I heard from them, and I bought it in the dark. Just looked the cover, the year, and "well, I'll buy it...". Waiting for you to hear Vas Dis on the second album, hahaha
Wishbone Ash were often at their best when they incorporated folk infuences into their work, and this track is a great example. Phenomenal guitar work from both Powell and Turner, and a lovely full sound - this, along with Phoenix, is the best track on the first album.
WA were a leading prog/rock crossover of the early 70s. More impressive given how young they were at this point.......gifted guitar work when they'd hardly turned 20! Good perceptive critique again Justin......
Thats one of the songs, that travels with me for some days after hearing it again. Everybody is reminded now and then of his own errors. The Errors of Wishboe Ash are few, if they only had let John Wetton sing more on Number the Brave. I wish you would also check out this album, even if most of their fans don't like it that much. I think, it was a splendid one. Cheers!
Very glad you're going through this whole album, it's great the whole way through. Such a cool and innovative band that is finally getting the credit they deserve. Love the drumming and guitar leads in this song, definitely one of my favourite tracks from them! Cheers 🤘🤘
The beginning kinda sounded like a Moody Blues riff. You need to react to some of their best stuff, which you will find on their " Live Date's " album. Phoenix, Warrior, Throw Down The Sword, The King Will Come or Blowin Free, oh, what the heck, do em all.🤣🤣
Yes, some of us do! 🙂 Some of us stay through the entire end credits of movies even when there's no mid-credits scene! And once again I have to put in a vote for anything by Scritti Politti from the "Cupid & Psyche '85" LP (or, from this century, "White Bread Black Beer"...
The track title always strikes me as a perpetuated typo which might one day be corrected, but it's the melodic interplay and the stylish tempo changes that matter in this song. A hard-working band in the studio with a great producer to do justice to their collective efforts. Part of a very satisfying album.
Well, you're getting closer to the two long songs on the 2nd side of this album that are among their best ever: *Handy & Phoenix.* I'd rank them both as good as Sometime World on the Argus album. I'll wait patiently...
A somewhat forgotten band, not too 'famous' well known in the U S i believe🤔,they have a unique sound, and 1972's "ARGUS" was voted best album of that year here in uk! A bona fide classic😊
Never a huge fan of these, as I've touched on in another comment, but I do know they can pull out the goods at times. Even if only for part of a track and not the whole. Today though, not one of those times... I just thought this plodding, 70's to the point of predictability, and boy do I wish they'd pick a singer. Just dreary with an average break.

It’s almost English medieval vibes.
The go to Wishbone Ash for me is “Argus”
Brilliant LP.
Can't wait for your reaction to Phoenix!!

This is a fantastic album. It has an element of Jazz with Rock and yes English Folk. English Folk music helped to create much of Americas music,
And now the twin guitars magic. Iron Maiden has a lot to owe to this band.

Wait for side 2, only 2 songs but they take it to another level , and yes I recommended this track to you !😊

Dual lead guitars at 1:08! I have always loved Wishbone Ash for their guitar work. The singing - eh!, but the guitar work amazing!
Great choice JP. Was in college in the early 70’s. A good record collection had a Wishbone Ash album.
I love this song. Imho one of the best from Wihbone Ash. It's so simple yet so full of harmonies.

Up to their album Four and the Live Dates were the deal. Keep on going, Justin. They are a different type of band.
Don't sleep on the Wisefield albums. Some stellar songs and while I adore Live Dates, IMHO Live Dates II has even better guitar work.
Justin. I would like to see you react to their song Persephone. I think you'll like it.
Yes, I heard you “sing” along at the end 🤪

Made me chuckle hearing you at the end of the credits 😁

I'm listening 11:20 😂
Have you heard Handy yet? Don't know what album it is from, but the bass alone........JP
This whole album is fantastic, their best by far. You lucked out.
Nice choice,JP--as others have indicated.. Argus full album. :-) T
Actually-- I've always preferred Side A of this debut album. Four killer tracks!
Ty Terry, I've covered Argus :)
@@JustJP Apologies,bro--- I thought maybe I'd watched your Argus reaction awhile back...Sometimers. lol T
@@TerryKrysinski no worries at all!😄
I hope you come back and finish this album, the B-side has a lot of great stuff on it!
Will do :)
Great song/album, as is Pilgrimage, but you should do the entire 3rd album ("Argus"). Every track is a 10 ;~)
