One of the best bands ever! They never received the recognition they deserve! And "Handy" is one of the most brilliant rock compositions ever!

I’m not a musician and I’m not an expert at anything in music , but just like your good self I know that they are very very exceptional , could I say brilliant ? Well I couldn’t argue they are not 😊👍😎

Never a Wishbone Ash fan but just for a moment (only a moment mind) I could hear that magic when you're 16 listening to fine rock music. I'm only 67 so for me it's Atomic Rooster.

Wow never heard a bass solo like that ever! It's as if the bass was telling a story in its own musical language. Who does that? What an innovator! so inspiring... I'm at a loss for words really.

Named after jazz/blues musician John Handy. They covered Jack McDuff on Pilgrimage ‘Vas Dis’. Wishbone had so many different influences blues and jazz as well as folk. It’s what makes their music so varied and different.

If you saw them play this live it was a real privilage as they rarely did it. When they did do it Steve Upton was let loose with a drum solo and the other 3 took a 5 minute break, oh happy days.

This song would've been so much better if it had ended at 15:15. The dual lead guitars by Wishbone Ash is their calling-card which distinguished them from so many other bands in the terrific 1970s. i always loved whenever Wishbone Ash went into their instrumental sections, but I never really cared for their vocals, except for Phoenix, which is another gem. Their first 4 albums are very good, but after that not so much!

Ending the song with a Beatle quote! Phoenix from the same album, as lenghty is the next one to listen to!

Memories! I started listening to this reaction while watching a livestream of the volcano erupting in Iceland. The combination of the two really brought back memories of multimedia concerts, early laser shows, and late night parties...Good catch Alan!

I like your analyse of the mood about this intro. Yes, it's really a conversation, you are right, I like what you tell us. I listen to this song anew thanks to you. They took time to develop such great moods on their first album. What a risky but wonderful thing to try.

One of my favourite bands back in the 1970's. Glad to see new people discovering them.
Another forgotten band from the same era I would recommend giving listen is Uriah Heep. I saw both live several times back in the day.

    • @alan-reacts65

    • @tonym480

Hi Alan, I was tempted to recommend Salisbury, from the album of the same name, but at 16 minutes I thought it might be a touch on the long side 😄 Instead, from the same album, give 'Lady in Black' a try. This was one of their more 'popular' numbers from the time that got some air time on the radio.
I tried to post a link but YT deleted my comment, re posted without.
I've only found your channel today, but looking at your play list I see lots of stuff that is right up my street as an old rocker from back in the day. You've got a sub from me. Two newer bands that I don't think I saw in the list that might appeal, Mexican Rock trio (3 sisters) The Warning, give 'Evolve' or their cover of the Metallica song 'Enter Sandman' a listen, try the live version from 2022, and from Japan, Lovebites. Almost anything from them is so good, but as a starter, Holy War seems a popular choice with reacters. They have 2 of the best guitar players I have ever heard, anywhere, lots of old metal influence with more than an echo of bands like Iron Maiden, Judas Priest and Garry Moore guitar on several of their songs.

@tonym480 Tony 😊 at the risk of sounding a little cheeky 😂 thier are 12 reactions to the Alejandro sisters and I’d say 8 or 9 to Lovebites .. @ Swansong included 😊and other Japanese bands “ band maid “ wagaki band “ unlucky Morpheus 👍 welcome to our little channel bud .. one old rocker to another 😎👍

Alan I know this isn't a Billy Strings reaction but did you know he played heavy metal and just played a reunion show March 22nd with his friends band "Flesh And Blood Robot" Apparently Billy was in a metal/hardcore band in high school before he switched to playing the music that is father taught him, bluegrass. But when he heard his friends band was getting back together for a reunion show for the first time in 18 years Billy asked he could be the 2nd guitarist. It was sick seeing him up there for almost 40 minutes headbanging and killing it on guitar.
If you search RUclips for "Flesh And Blood Robot with Billy Strings" a bunch of videos will pop but the best one is a RUclips page called "Been There Scene That Records" They filmed the whole set and they're front row right in front of Billy.
