    I think pure black and white art actually looks very good in manga. Gives it a nice texture!

      Yeah, not to mention you have to often think outside the box if you want a specific contrast or texture (especially when you have no means to get screentones)

    A simple tip is to create charts to study creating different shades. I try to do 10 of them from white to black.

    By far the best video ive seen so far on value, that finally actually explained it with concrete examples, instead of just stating what they are and moving on without examples of how to actually apply it! Loved it!
    One bonus tip that helps me a lot when doing colour illustrations, is to also remove your saturation and hue, through a filter, to check if the values work for the chosen colours. One good rule of thumb i saw recommended is that you illustration also needs to work when you put it into greyscale. The simple trick of checking the values on your colour illustrations can really help identify problems.

    • @aphlearntodrawmanga
      @aphlearntodrawmanga  9 месяцев назад +3

      Great question! You actually create values using hatching/crosshatching. :)

    • @NerdSpeak
      @NerdSpeak 9 месяцев назад +3

      Hatching and crosshatching are techniques for actually drawing in the shading. The level of darkness of the shading is itself a value. You don’t have one without the other. Darker shadows = darker value. No matter what, once you start applying shading whether that’s with flat blacks or grays or if it’s using crosshatching or hatching, that shading is in itself giving you more variety in values.
