Great job my man! Straight to the point with not some long backstory asking you to “like and subscribe“ every few minutes. I wish all RUclips videos had this format. I liked and subscribed specifically because you didn’t ask me to and got straight to the point! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
I did a new construction window just like you did, except after I cut the hole with the masonry saw, a neighbor who was in construction for 50 years told me to take a chisel and break up all the clean-cut edges. If not he said it will crack down the clean-cut lines. I have no idea if this is true, but I did what he said. Thank you for the video, it was really done well!
You should always chip out a jagged edge around the opening and also overlap new paper and wire with the existing paper and wire. This helps reduce cracking and gives you better waterproof situation around the new window.
That’s how you do it! Got to be a mason too, doing stucco windows , I lived in San Diego for 33 years, all stucco houses, now I live in big bear, no stucco all wood siding with wood trim in and out, no retro fit up here all nail fin and some block frame…. Great vids!!! Odale vato 🙃
The extra work is definitely worth it. I have some windows similar to this, the others have a foam stucco trim around that may be a little more difficult. Hoping to find a video on that. But this video definitely helps. Thanks
Nice job…I did the same for the whole house and it looks fine…in 10 years I haven’t had any leaks…I only have one window left to do…it is an odd size( dumb size) not only that but it is the kitchen window and the sill is part of the countertop which will be installed after I take care of the window….so most likely I have to order the window …
Thanks for the video. If I want to put a window into a stucco wall, can I just frame inside, cut exact opening through stucco, and install block frame window (no nail in fin), by screwing directly outward through the window frame directly into the studs, and then just caulk around the whole window? Will that make it waterproof enough? Will just caulking around the whole window make it water proof, as there will be nothing getting tucked around it, just caulk around it?
Thanks for the video. If I am installing windows into a stucco wall that has no windows, what type of fin do I want to order on the windows? Or will any one really be ok? Different fins I’ve seen listed are: 1 3/8-in Setback Standard Z- Bar Wide Z-Bar No Fin (Block Frame) No Fin with Sloped sill Adapter Nail Fin No Fin/ Block Wall Single Wall Flush Fin Dual Wall Flush Fin Stucco Key
Hello, thanks for the video I have a window that is the size of the last window showed in your video and it is leaking through, I removed the drywall and it looks like there is no flashing could it be leaking for this reason when it rains?
Nice install. How would you go about installing a new construction window on a stucco house with 2x4s around the perimeter the window, which are also stuccoed.
This is not the right way to install window and patch stucco. Caulking a small strip of paper to edge of cut and window will fail. Not chipping back stucco and tying in and nailing lath to existing will cause a crack at the joint in time. Just google or youtube waterproof retrofit windows in stucco and don't make this mistake.
True, the window was flashed no better than the existing, the lath should be lapped, & chipped edges rather than cut would be a better adhesion for the new stucco... All that being said, that window may not have a valid warranty, but will likely hold up better than the one it replaced. It is near impossible to get a solid waterproofing onto 60 year old tar paper. My 1971 waterproofing has flashing tape inside the paper only, nothing around the frame, nothing above or below square aluminum frames with no weepholes. New windows have internal moisture control, & will channel water out away from the waterproofing membrane.
Thank you I'm a small contractor bidding some new construction windows soon. How much should I charge with the window install? Also do you have the customer pay for the window themselves or better for the contractor to buy?
Great video! My favorite part was when you used your wife's spoon...lol. The stucco on my home is a very thin layer on top of styrofoam. Will this technique still work for me? Thank you.
No it won't you need completely different materials Fiberglass mesh and base coat cement and acrylic finish coat none of those materials are used in this video and he did a horrible job on that patch worst job
Straight to the point gotta love it, but you missed the tape, nor did you try to protect the window from damage on the stucco repair. Overall more informative than other videos so 3.5 out of 5
@@mrnoe67tiktok we live out east. We were quoted 6500 and 4700 for 3 windows equivalent by 2 different contractors. Is this exorbitant or about right. It's one door, one window and a window removed.
Do you have to put a drip cap over the top of this type of window when installed in stucco without any trim or pop outs? I think you did an amazing job and you make it look so easy. I'm about to have someone do this to my windows in place of wood trim, but I'm really scared about water. There is a roof overhang all around the house, but not sure that's all that protective. It looks to me like you didn't do a drip cap.
The stucco finish looks great, nice blend in
