shottas was filmed in 97? damn i never knew it was shelved for 5 years before it came out in 02. i first saw it in 05 and even then it still seemed like a pretty new well done indie film. only had a 200k budget and it came out incredible. thats not easy
The Marley brothers are so cool. If you are in South Beach (Miami) on a Monday night (reggae night), they can usually be spotted at the Purdy Lounge. They just blend into the crowd and are laid back.
Shottas is honestly one of the realist movies ever created. It doesn't have to be "ghetto" or a "hard lifestyle" only in Harlem, Compton, or Chicago! I got love for Boyz in the Hood, Menace 2 Society, South Central, etc. but for real this guy keeps it straight fucking 100. Ky-Mani was not raised as one of Bob's children so he did not have a piece of that life. He made himself and Ghetto Soldier is the best song I have ever heard hands down.
definitely one of the best. id say boyz in the hood because it relates to like every damn person that grew up in that time where as shottas how many people in real life go from being nothing to rich ass kingpins living in mansions, not many. boyz in the hood, everyone had a friend who was a dope baller with a future who got gunned down by someone for no reason who had nothing going on in there life and no future, dying in your friends arms, friends going to prison, friends getting paralyzed, knocking up your girl at 18, that shit was so real

just looked it up, Bob Marley is worth $130 milllion. So how the fk was this guy living at bottom in a "wooden house"? Where tf does the money disappear to? cuz obivously his family has to get their fair share.
Yeah, he is the black sheep of the family. He was given a settlement and they could either invest it back into Marley brand and get an allowance or take the settlement and that be it, no additional money from the estate ever. He don't talk baad about them but they are not that close.
Pretentious as fuck....damn shame. You can see right through it, my dad is a boxer doesn't mean i can step in the ring with Tyson. He turn on the accent, puts it on, then suddenly no accent...his music aint up to much neither.
Because i am of Afro Caribbean decent and here in England its a major part of our national identity.Down to the way people particularly in London talk ( white or black) in "urban areas" talk.but even in the modern vernacular in general. We have a long long musical and cultural relationship with those islands way pre Bob and Marley was half English himself. Catch a Fire maybe his greatest album was recorded here for example.
Let me start by saying that he is a personal friend of mine and he is one of the realest people that you would ever meet. He was raised in Miami so of course you would notice his American accent. However when we are around our island family we want to identify with them.
T.C.J B I was getting ready to go in on you and tell you to read the book to know his life. Then I saw that the poster above got you together lol. But I really respect your response to them. Very mature. Very rare in these social networking societies.
Shottas gon b classic forever.

Read his book, Dear Dad. He wasn't raised as a Marley or in the Marley Household.
Bob had a lot of children spread out. Don't think he grew up w/ brothers
SuperHooper He was by one of Bob's several other women--not Bob's wife.
Qualial not true. He was treated as an outsider by the family. Read his book, Dear Dad.

Shottas 2....
That music in the background kinda annoying
.
