It looks like everyone except the dude in white is rocking a 60', and the dude in white has a min (50'). If I'm 5'11'', and muscular should I even use a min, or should MY min be a 60'?
I would recommend fighting around 60 and below for learning. For field effectiveness in line fighting, poles typically take precedence. Shorter lengths are better at skirmishing and flanking. Regardless of length chosen, do not use it as a crutch. Learning with a min-red is what everyone in this video did initially, however, times were different before the advent of the current carbon era. Remember, skill transfers up in regards to length(min->pole), but it doesn't really work the other way. The 58-64'' lengths are somewhat of a "jack of all trades", there are better lengths for specific purposes, but none are as better at encompassing all (although the 6' hybrids are definitely disproving this thought line). A lot of high tier red fighters have used the 60ish range in recent years as a dueling staple because of the inherent flexibility. But this will always shift pending tech and game factors.
I personally use a 60'', however the size is normally dependent on how tall you are as well as what you are comfortable using. It also depends on what your primary focus is going to be. If you want to be a duelist/skirmisher, a shorter red(50-60) is more applicable. If you are wanting to be a line-fighter or generally more field effective, you probably want to get something that is above 6'.
heh I use a 8'6" Tetsubo its absurdly fun, especially in large scale combat. Also id suggest going to Bandeshoppe.com www.bandshoppe.com/shop/color-guard-flags/flag-poles-accessories/default.html best cores for reds i have ever found.
The dude in the green has a duper dope style. I would love to see him fight.
Great video guys
