Yeah, I'm shocked she found for the plaintiff after over 2 years. Sure the paper receipt in the defendants own handwriting was pretty convincing, but 2 years later?!! I can't help but think something is missing in this case. I bet it has something to do with all those coins that were rejected. Maybe the paper receipt reflects the coins that were accepted at the time. And how that part of the transaction was handled, and where and when, was not really covered in the case. The defendant said he replaced the rejected coins with others...but when exactly did that happen? And you'd think some of those would get rejected as well. No real clarity on this case, but the judge acted like there was. I feel for the defendant on this one.

While it may look like "feelings," she goes based off of preponderance of the evidence - is it more likely than not. Every case is different in that regard. You have to consider nuance. What do people not understand about civil cases? Litigants in a civil case don't have to prove their case beyond and to the exclusion of a reasonable doubt.
As an insurance agent, this is why most policies have a cut and dry limit on coins and currencies. How do we know if you really had $50k stuffed in a mattress that burned or $1050 in coins ✌️misplaced ✌️.
Coins have weight to them, 200 half dollars is going to weight considerably more than 80. The plaintiff would have known instantly when he picked up the bag. I can feel the difference between a modern quarter and a silver quarter.

She made the wrong decision. All the counting should be done before you leave. Once you leave who knows what people say. You don't make a case YEARS LATER!!!! This is what separates the Judge Judy court show from the rest. Milan will always feel sorry and have the show pay for their stupidity.

It sounds good what you are saying, but what you fail to understand is that the plaintiff's receipt did NOT match the money that he claims he gave the defendant, and he ONLY won the case because the defendant was honest and admitted on his own that he received the money that would match $100 face value. I will explain: if he was as dishonest as the plaintiff and said that he only received the money for $40 face value (like the receipt says), then HE would have won the case....since the plaintiff did NOT listen to the judge and make sure that "money doesn't leave this hand, without a receipt for that money going into the other hand"...he paid thousands of dollars for $100 face value, and only got a receipt that says he paid for $40 face value.

This was wrong. Here is the thing. My dad, when he was still alive, was a coin collector. He checked every coin he paid for for authenticity and made sure he had them when he left and when he got home.

i didnt understand. so defendant SAID plaintiff turned down 40 (which would have been 80???) that he replaced with other coins. so that would have covered the note because that was a piss poor excuse for a receipt. this should have been one of those split the baby type rulings, and seeing as he HAD the coins, instead of putting a money value she should have just told the man to hand him some coins.
I would think after two years have passed that the statute of limitations has passed. That's a long time. Anything could transpire in that period of time. When you're buying coins, wouldn't it make sense to count the coins before you walk away?
