Ian Corzine Hi Ian, great video. Question, if we are using someone else’s print material online, in our video can we acknowledge that it is someone else’s, state they are the author or source & still use it? Can we only use excerpts or the whole thing? Thanks!
Thanks SP! It depends on the purpose -- are you EDUCATING or doing COMMENTARY? If so, then use of short excerpts with full attribution is Fair Use. Thanks for watching!!!
I had a over an hour long video of a Cinco de Mayo parade. Recieved a claim for several seconds worth of La Cascabel. Couldn't swap it or mute it. Ended up cutting it out. Almost as if the copyright holder didn't want to let go of the possibility of future ad revenue
The tools probably work the same way you erase background noise using Audacity. Maybe it's not perfected. Overall, I've started to focus on quality content over quality video. Just for the sake of avoiding copyright strikes
This is soooooooo helpful. Starting out, we don't have much money to invest in programs or professional advice. So your channel is ABSOLUTELY a BLESSING to new RUclipsrs. You provide answers to key, important issues that most people have NO CLUE. Not only that, you keep us from getting sued, and like you say, Even worse is they take your channel down. Thank you
funny that youtube still didn't want to "split" the ads revenus by length instead... Could be way more fair for all parties. Per example a 15minutes videos with a music of 5sec of BonJovi should not have 100% of the video's revenus. THAT was makes everybody mad about the situation.
It's easy to claim that their 5 seconds of copyrighted material is responsible for 100% of the view time, now go argue that in court. Part of the problem is that we small creators have none of that resource to fight egregious claims from copyright holders, especially big corporations.
Thanks, Ian, for being here, and for being timely and on top of this issue. Sadly, I don't think that most creators have any defense against the corporate copyright claimants, fair use or not. Part of it is the reality that the United States court systems are for the rich. Isn't a "manual copyright claim" in RUclips the equivalent of a Digital Millennium Copyright Act take-down notice? If I dispute a DCMA take-down notice (which I think I would be doing if I disputed a manual copyright claim), aren't the only two responses then available to the claimant (1) go away, and (2) sue me in court? So who has all the money and lawyers? I certainly don't have the funds to deal with a lawsuit. So we just do what they want, whether they are right or not.
Thank you #2 for your other video that suggests a request for retraction first. Since that is one step short of a DCMA counter-notice, it is certainly worth a try (and if through an attorney, even better). A ray of hope!
Hey Tony! Thanks so much for your kind words. Well a manual copyright claim is not the same as the DMCA takedown notice. It’s really more of an intent to take revenue. There is a takedown noticed process but allows the original copyright holder to actually take down your video.
*So, bottom line, policy is becoming a loophole around the law to keep the poor poorer and the rich richer. Got it.* *p.s.* *My online souvenir shop if anyone's interested:* teespring.com/stores/express-shirtself .
I don't get it.. so singing a couple of lines from living on a prayer results in copyright strike, but what about all those guitar channels where people sing entire cover songs? why they don't get copyright strikes?
Hi Gert!! Thanks for watching and for reaching out. It all comes down to whether the creator gets his or her money or not. A small YTer will probably get a strike because their channel is not producing any revenue; whereas a big YTer only gets a copyright claim, but is allowed to keep the video up because the copyright owner gets revenue from ads on the channel and additional revenue when the channel is monetized. It always comes down to money. I hope this helps to answer your question. 👊😀
Hi, Ian. For using some copyrighted material for fair use purposes whether it's commentary, criticism, education, or other transformative uses, couldn't the original copyright owners get in trouble for ignoring the fair use purposes that a RUclips creator has created?
Informative, thanks! I got an automatic copyright strike 2 weeks ago on music I have a license to use. I hadn't realised the company wasnt involved at that stage. It's still outstanding and as of today I qualify to be monetized. Hoping it doesnt affect anything!
@@iancorzine thanks! I've desputed it and contacted the company per their instructions in my license, will the money come to me once the claim expires?
What about the DMCA video take downs? Those are the worst because they end up in strikes. Anything being done by RUclips to avoid those? I got my whole videos taken down for using a few seconds of blurry background. RUclips should give chance to creators to edit out the DMCA copyrighted content too just like manual claims so we can avoid strikes.
They're even worse because if you contest them, you have to give name, address, number and consent to Federal Court jurisdiction -- know what that means? Big corps with endless resources sue you in federal court. Sometimes I get so PO'ed!
*Audio scrub* : Back in January 2014 I uploaded a video titled "The Boring Bus Tour of GTA4 (Xbox360)". Upon upload, the background music was flagged by ContentID as conflicting with a copyright owner. RUclips offered to scrub out the offending audio or mute it entirely, so I picked the scrub option. The upload went up, and the only effect was the sound effects were muddied where the music was scrubbed out. In November 2014 I re-watched the video and found that the music had been restored, a list of song attributions had been added below the description, and a banner ad appeared in the video (I'm not in the RUclips partner program, so none of my uploads are monetized). I assume the copyright holder chose to let the music remain and just skim off whatever ad revenue the video might generate.
You are correct!! In fact, that is a great example of how YT used to help make the videos watchable instead of just taking down the videos and/or the channels completely. Thanks for watching and for sharing your experience. 👊😀
You cannot get a copyright strike on content i d upon upload, video can only get claim or block. A strike is only done manually when the video is public.
A famous creator from Mexico shared that a large news corp claimed his video for 3 seconds of content, taking a large amount of money from the man. Here's the thing... the content the news corp struck belongs to the creator! The news org had previously interviewed the creator, used footage from his video to make the news package, and then published that package on RUclips. The algorithm scanned around and struck the creators content (because it was the same used by the news corp even though it belongs to the creator) The system went in favor of the large news corp. Eh, it's CNN! It appears as though, although you can manually accept and deny these infringements registered by the algorithm, 1) the algorithm is in favor of large corps. 2) the inter at CNN in charge of denying or accepting claims just clicks accept all the time, milking the creators' hard work.
OMG! What a story ... unfortunately, it's one I have heard all too often. Thanks for watching, Cleo! Have you have gotten a Manual Claim on your channel?
Around 2005 i used to make videos,i was kind of new,but i used a bunch of clips.i notice movie sights do it a lot,so would it be ok?im making a new sight and wondering what to include or not.i just posted master of illusion, the dance scene was some random clip.is that ok?
The problem: many copyright claims seems to be a scam. I.E. if a creator does not dispute the claim the corporation making the claim simply gets all the money. If a creator does dispute the claim the corporation will wait until the very last day/hour/minute/second to remove their claim and without ever sending a single word of apology. Such claims are not mistakes - they are phishing attempts and therefore they are premeditated fraud attempts. They are only attempts of fraud when the creators dispute those claims, but they are in fact real frauds when uninformed creators don't dispute the claims the the con artists collect the money. This needs to be addressed and fixed, to protect creators. I have an example: On one of my channels I demonstrated a piano and played a few bars of music on it. The music I played was the opening to the first movement of the Moonlight Sonata, composed by Beethoven and performed by... well... myself. The company CD Baby Pro Publishing made a copyright claim. If I didn't dispute it they would get all the money. Again, it is not a mistake, it is textbook fraud.
I have so many people share stories just like this. It is definitely companies and/or individuals trying to take advantage of others. It is so sad the a few bad people ruin some good for the rest of us. Thanks for watching AND for sharing your thoughts (and experience). Hopefully you won the dispute. 👊😁
@@iancorzine HI Ian. The dispute resolved in my favor, but I don't think anyone looked at it. The dispute resolved at the very last moment, which leads me to believe that it is an app, not a human. This reinforces my suspicion that the whole thing is a phishing attempt, therefore a deliberate attempt at fraud. The whole thing is just programmed in and they must be raking loads for money from millions of RUclips creators that never dispute those claims. I am not a legal expert but I would go as far as to say this is a case of conspiracy and racketeering, because it is well thought out. Of course I have nothing but circumstantial evidence, however, nowadays scammers don't necessarily target big payouts that individual victims are likely to report the authorities. There are now plenty of scammers that go after pennies, from millions of victims. At the end it all ads up to millions of dollars. And they can just play dumb, "Oh, there must be a glitch in our system." So, when you dispute they walk away from the claim, when you don't bother disputing they take your money. I might be just a cute little puppet bunny, but I've been around the block a few times.
If there were any way to prove that we could probably save the world. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. 😁 AND congratulations on winning a battle against one of the big guys. You are one of the few success stories.
Ian Corzine mostly Alternative Rock and German Rock, but also other genres. I bought myself a new guitar and a better microphone because I wasn‘t satisfied with the quality of my videos. Would you recommend deleting all of my former content and start over New by recording everything again? (45 subs / 75 h )
Ian this couldn't be explained more clearly than you have just done, i am very interested in what YT will come up with in the next couple weeks as far as a quick edit. As always clear and easy to understand info delivered. 🙏👊✔
Awwh Joe!! Thank you so much for the kind words. Coming from you, a real student of RUclips and online social platforms, that makes me feel so good. Thank you always for your steadfast support.
Thanks Ian for all of your info! I however am having a hard time with fitting what I do as a paper crafter in this. I know this may seem straight forward for some but I would really appreciate any direction as to whom to talk to about my project I'm currently working on and now hesitant to upload it. Any advice? TY! Jules
Very interesting. The video I uploaded today was immediately marked as partially monetized...I immediately put it on Private and asked for a manual review. I don’t understand why it was marked as such. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us. 🤗
Hey Sara! That happens to me all the time. You should transcribe. That way, YT’s computers will understand that your video is totally safe. Give it a minute before you Private it and YT will figure it out.
Hopefully that did the trick for you. Sometimes it does take extra work but it's worth not getting a strike or a copyright claim. Thanks for watching and for sharing your experience. 👊😀
I feel, after learning about this further, that it is granulizing the fair use, thus limited it. Instead of making more generic protections for reasonable usage of copyright material "fair use," this is heading towards situations where large operations can potentially keep up with this extra effort to remove the "issue," but small creators will have trouble keeping up. Small creators will just start attempting fair use less, which is what they want, watering down their content to stay afloat...thanks Ian, really great stuff, as always
I have been a photographer in the music business for 45 years. I now also produce music videos for my clients, with their music, and they are in the videos! I have to spend my precious time getting copyright notices and disputing them. Would it help if in the beginning of the video they say, "my name is Will Ackerman, and I have given permission for my own music to be in this video?" It is obvious they are in the video. The client can provide written permission, but if RUclips is automated, it won't help. Thank you for your thoughts. CD Baby (Orchard) is issuing notices against the very people they are supposed to be protecting. THEY ARE IN THE VIDEO and IN THE CREDITS. Thank you, Ian. Do you have a video on this?
Hi! My problem is when i upload a video from a film which has a copyright, the youtube send me this message: ''Your video is bolcked in some countries due to copyrights and to avoid that try to download a song from youtube library''. I wrote the name, date, publisher...but it did not work and i also used the songs of youtube and merged them with my video but the same probme is always existed. Perhaps the problem is with film because i used to cut many videos of. And when the first one was warned by youtube, youtube warned all videos that i uploaded from this film even if i used all mentioned above?
Question about a concert. I posted videos from concerts I attended for quite awhile on one of my channels, and NEVER had a problem with any of the artists -- UNTIL I posted one video of an artist singing an old song in a concert. I was SHOCKED when he hit me with a COPYRIGHT STRIKE! My channel wasn't monetized, I had no desire to profit from his song, I just wanted to share a great experience at a concert. I DID dispute it however, saying I didn't own the SONG, but I OWNED the ticket to the CONCERT, so I had a right to post it. I never heard back, but I'm certainly disappointed in this artist. He is worth $80 million dollars. I'm "just" a service connected disabled veteran. This guy could buy and sell me a million times over, yet he got greedy over a song. Smh. But are we allowed to post videos of concerts??? I mean, we DID buy the ticket to the concert!!! Thanks for any advice.
@@iancorzine Here look...ruclips.net/video/jLafgrgISJs/видео.html just listen to the 1st 8 seconds... They muted literally my intro music and then my video plays... All my audio is there because the music wasn't throughout my video.
Hi @Iam Keva and @Ian Corzine, I am new about how copyrights on you youtube works and about fair use which brought me here and view comments. I have a question related to @Iam Keva, in that case you are muted on the intro or any part in the video, will your content still used for monetization, if views grow? I'm uploading a new content but we dance a song played at the background 20 secs and it is is audible on the video. Hope you see this hank you so much!!!
i saw disclaimer text on some youtube channels description. "(Copyright Disclaimer Under Section 107 of the Copyright Act 1976)". Can you explain about it? Because there are some channel use the same disclaimer text on their videos.thank you
appreciate this video a lot, when i go into the studio and see the copyright strike, it kinda highlights a area in like a clear to white rectangle. the question can i make a cut at the start and end of the copyright and get around the copyright, or would i have to delete the whole copyright spot?
I received two content id copyright claims on composition grounds on one of my videos: One was for Megalovania, and another was for a metal remix of the same song. Yes, the original Megalovania is playing, but that's because it's in the game's files included with the download from Steam. I had thought since the remix's composition is based on the original, the dispute should go back to the original. Should I dispute it, leave it be, mute most of the audio (because the song is playing for most of it), or take the video down?
Ian, great information! Thanks. As you know, copyright infringement is more serious than most people realize. If convicted, it can include jail and up to $150,000 fines per infringement.
You are correct!! However, it costs money to bring a lawsuit and most people would just as soon file a take-down request. It is those people with deep pockets that want to "enforce" their claims. You are ALSO correct that it is a serious problem AND I think that is why YT is trying to protect themselves from any kind of future lawsuit. Thanks for watching!! 👊😁
i got copyright notice for the background music. I never understand it. I did put Credit, the name of songs, and links from other youtuber on description. i recorded it and putted it on my gameplay video. When i get email from youtube and get confused. i took down the video and re-editing it and replace it with a new background music.
Hi Ian, some you tubers are putting video together from all different sources and make it a 10 mins video, ie, like car accidents or encounter with a ghost clips, is that legal?
I would bet that one of those videos is going to get them a strike for using copyrighted material. RUclips is cracking down on everything that might even be seen as a violation. All they can do is try it and see what happens. Thanks for watching. 👊😀
I intend to read out portions of books available in archive.org. Somebody was saying that upto four pages would not involve copyright/ fair use law violation. Is that true ?
People, this is another very important and VERY informative video! Thanks again for being one of the good guys out there in utubeland! Marking for later reviewing & study by the way loL
In other words, youtube wants nothing to do with fair use and leans to corporations to get rid of fair use? Which leads means to question what if fair use was completely eliminated from the law because that seems to be the direction we're headed?
Well it’s such a good discussion, isn’t it? Think about it RUclips actually benefit substantially from the fair use doctrine. If we get real honest with ourselves they make a lot of money with copyright infringement. However they have to get along with the big corporations, and the big corporations heat fair use because they want to be paid for any and all use of their art. So, in my opinion, RUclips takes measures like those discussed in today’s video, because they want to appear like they’re doing something to help the big corporations.
Thank you for this video. What about if you aren’t intentionally including copyrighted music, but it is in the background of short clips where the focus is talking, cheering, laughing ? I’m working on a video from a trail race and running into that problem
Hi, this is a great question. I would love to help out and answer any questions you may have! I have a LIVE Q&A show this Saturday. You can drop your questions and concerns on my LIVE show and TUNE IN. Kindly check this link to get a notification. facebook.com/yoursocialmedialawyer/posts/1231061260678010
I had Sony/EMI claim something in my video the doesn't even exist. I have disputed the claim and am now waiting 6 days and no response. The claim states the them to Game of Thrones is in my video, which it is not. There is a remix from the Days of Thunder soundtrack that is a free use version. So this is an example of the abuse of the system. This has happened to me at least 100 times over the past 2 years. Mostly from scam companies that are trying to steal money from creators, but in this case it is a major corporation. I can send you a screen shot if you like.
Will we be able to make musical covers with the original or redone instrumental background or acapella with Article 13? If yes, why, if not why. Someone explain to me in detail, it seems like we won't be able to do any creative or entertaining videos......
Simply showing the video without audio will still give you a strike or a claim. You used material that you did not have permission to use. You need to watch my video about Fair Use and it will explain more about this topic. ruclips.net/video/6_WWRJ71Hqo/видео.html
To answer this question correctly from a legal standpoint: In short- youtube does not have the legal right (by contract or otherwise) to determine when and how "fair use" applies- "fair use" is a statutory limitation that youtube can be forced to follow to the letter of the law by federal court order. (noting that the Communications Decency Act does not apply to matters arising under any theory of copyright law.) Simply put- a website cannot "change the law", and copyright law can be enforced to the letter of the law by federal court order against any site that doesn't follow the law. Its also worth noting that federal law requires that sites that violate the first amendment tob be stripped of any and all government funding, or else face litigation under 42 USC 1983.
Is there anyway for someone who is doing a gaming channel like me to ensure theres no way their video gets said strike? I've gotten a few without me meaning for it as even with the music off some reason ambient music is what gets it. So can I put something in the description that can avoid this trouble?
Hi Ian! I believe you've come across channels who do movie reviews like mystery recapped, scifi recapped, etc. Are they monetising from these videos? Don't they get copyright striked from the movie companies? Cause I wanna make a channel like theirs too. So I'm asking you first.
Google allowed me the option to allow them to remove copyrighted audio last year. I was filming a lady making Nitrogen ice cream in Utah and was totally oblivious to a song that was playing in the background.
@@iancorzine They use liquid nitrogen to freeze ice cream. It's really cool but we don't have it in Texas. Here is the video. ruclips.net/video/QsYMLBi-vfo/видео.html
Awesome video, extremely informative. Quick question, do basically, if u create a wedding video and I put 4 copyrighted songs in there, I can just simply accept the copyright and let them place ads on my video? I don’t care about not making money off of it. My other channel is small and not monetized. Please answer.
Yes, you can accept the copyright claims, but you need to make sure you don't get strikes. That will terminate your channel. There is no rhyme or reason why certain channels get copyright claims and others get strikes. It all depends on YT. Good luck. 👊😀🍀
RUclips has some powerful algorithms that pick up on EVERYTHING!! You cannot get around them by stretching the audio or altering it somehow. Your best bet to avoid a strike is to get some free music or create original music yourself. Just saying 👊
can i use a short muted 7 seconds clip of another youtuber's standard license video in my original video when I am talking over it educating about healthcare? Will i get a content ID claim? My work is all original but adding this will just help me explain stuff.
thx man, maybe one day, if you can make a video to react to it, so that way maybe it's a proper way to dispute each copyright claim. As well as reacting to the fan made vids on my channel. I'll put the section at the top for you
Yeah, this doesn’t please me as a new content creator 😡 What RUclips is calling a manual copyright claim is not manual at all! My very first video I uploaded got a claim on it within 5 min of uploading it. RUclips said the copyright owner claimed a certain portion and it had the time stamps. Problem was, it was music I had a license for from one of the royalty free sites! And on top of that, the name of the song they said that I was using wasn’t even that song. Then I do some research and come to find out that there’s shady companies going to music download sites and laying copyright ownership to swaths of music (saying they work on behalf of the artist with the intent of laying claim to millions of poor unsuspecting souls on RUclips! I would def check into this crooked scam going on, cause it’s alive and well
I am only uploading videos of old tube radios to demonstrate that they work and how they sound for my listings on eBay. I haven't received any strikes because I am not monetizing my videos. Are there any legal issues I should be worried about? Many other sellers use short videos to demonstrate products for sale. Thank You.
Putting music in the background will NOT help you avoid a strike. You must have permission to use the sports highlights AND if you want to put some music in the background you will also need permission to use the music. I would suggest you watch this video before you do anything else: ruclips.net/video/6_WWRJ71Hqo/видео.html. Then let me know if you have any other questions.
I want to make a cooking show that builds on/is inspired by a famous cooking show on the food network. Do I need to avoid showing it in my show? Or should I take the risk and dispute any copyright claims under fair use?
I have a copy write question: So Disney Channel has a wand channel thingy and i wanted to use that design n instead of Disney in the mouse ears have my channel name. Is that possible without any copy write issues😢🥴
Hi! Been watching these videos for guidance but still can't find clarity on something. How much of a consecutive copyright material eg a movie clip is acceptable? Like is a 10-15 second clip Okay? Because I've seen some creators literally play 2 seconds of a song, or chipmunk voice it to avoid the issue. Any help would be appreciated thank you!
Hi Lebo!! What I normally tell creators is to use only 2-5 seconds of a video (10 sec max). It is hard to determine how other creators get away with longer videos. The chipmunk voice actually "modifies" the original video and keeps it short at the same time, so I can see why that passes YT's tests. I hope it is my videos that you have been watching for guidance. If not, I have several other videos that will teach you more about Fair Use and copyright and might answer any other questions you have. Good luck AND thanks for watching.👊😁
Hi, such a great video I learned so much. question, what if you appear in one of those videos and it’s not your video and they’re making revenue from your image? Would that be subject to copyright?
Question? I tried to put up a video and it says it was copyrighted. Can I waive my share rights for profit? I don’t have enough subscribers anyway I just want to show this interest video from a movie but I don’t want a strike either after I put it up. Great tutorial also.
I am working on starting a RUclips channel in the tech products niche and to promote those products in compilation videos with affiliate links in the descriptions below the compilations. I will be using manufacturers' promotional videos in the compilations as other channels do. That certainly means using copyrighted material that is often 30 seconds long or longer. In order to avoid copyright strikes and stay within RUclips's reused content guidelines I will be changing (transforming) the promotional videos by editing, using my own voice overs, changing background music, adding text, adding channel logo and using transition effects. Should I be safe using manufacturers' promotional videos since they will be used to advertise those products? Do I really need to obtain permission from the manufacturers or the affiliate marketing programs that I sign up with?
Hey, thanks for this video. I know I am late to the party on the timing of the video and watching it. But I am in the process of starting a new channel and am very concerned about it and copyright law. I want to start a movie/series review channel using clips from movies, can I do this? Or should I come up with a different way to do the channel?
How do so many RUclips users use copyrighted music in their videos? I see it all the time. Never mind you just answered my question. So basically they get all the ad revenue but you can still use it?
Well, the overall reason is because social media platforms make a lot of money on use of copyrighted content. But in the micro, the content filters often don’t catch the copyrighted material. And, A lot of copyright holders don’t complain about use of their art on RUclips.
@ Corzine I am new to Tube so please answer this please. IF those kids get had credited Bon Jovi were they then OK via attribution ? I also thought that brevity was considered fair use ? Like a 3 second clip which might represent less than 1/2 of 1% of an entire video ? Last But Not Least does the copy write owner really need to do a manual search every few days on a video that is getting big views ? A few days of your material on someone elses channel could be tens of thousands of "Theft" views stolen from you. I Mean cant tube come up with software that prevents copy write material from being downloaded from their site ?
Any chance of making a video that addresses Fair Use rules for content creators that provide lessons on how to play songs on instruments? I've had some success disputing copyright claims, but it would be nice to avoid the headache of getting a claim in the first place. Is there a way to avoid them? I've been putting "fair use" as one of my video tags, but that's just spitting into the wind!
Wow! This is a really good point. I need to get down into detail about reaction videos. There is a plan for the video coming out the next few weeks, thank you for the reminder.
I commented on another video of yours, I am young and need help, I can’t find where you can put links to music and stuff in the description, they say in the future any money from those videos gets put into the song writers bank account. Can you tell me where I could find or how to create these links already liked the video👍 need much help please notice
Creators!!! Do you like the new RUclips Timestamp policy? Or is it just another way they're taking our ❇️ FAIR USE ❇️ rights away?
Ian Corzine Hi Ian, great video. Question, if we are using someone else’s print material online, in our video can we acknowledge that it is someone else’s, state they are the author or source & still use it? Can we only use excerpts or the whole thing?
Thanks!
Thanks SP! It depends on the purpose -- are you EDUCATING or doing COMMENTARY? If so, then use of short excerpts with full attribution is Fair Use. Thanks for watching!!!
Ian Corzine I am doing commentary & tying it in to a bigger story. I assume that is still ok?
I had a over an hour long video of a Cinco de Mayo parade. Recieved a claim for several seconds worth of La Cascabel.

I really agree -- yeah, there are some logistics to it -- but I think it would be the most fair. THANK YOU for all your help!
Exactly my thoughts
It's easy to claim that their 5 seconds of copyrighted material is responsible for 100% of the view time, now go argue that in court. Part of the problem is that we small creators have none of that resource to fight egregious claims from copyright holders, especially big corporations.
Agree 100%
Ha! Thanks Tony!

Hey P&P! Thanks for watching! Was it a copyright strike, or a copyright claim?
@@iancorzine it was a content ID claim I think. Def not a strike.
Oh, ok, good. Copyright claims don't affect your channel -- you just lose the money for the video.
You cannot get a copyright strike on content i
d upon upload, video can only get claim or block. A strike is only done manually when the video is public.
That is good to know Max & Sujy!! Creators ask me this all the time. Thank you. 👊😁
Forgot to add... RUclips's answer was more or less, " We can't get involved in legal matters between you and CNN."
OMG! What a story ... unfortunately, it's one I have heard all too often. Thanks for watching, Cleo! Have you have gotten a Manual Claim on your channel?
Really?? That's just BS
Ian Corzine Thank YOU for creating this pieces of gold. Fortunately, not yet. But it’s so limiting to be scared unclear rules.
I have an example:
On one of my channels I demonstrated a piano and played a few bars of music on it.

Hi!
My problem is when i upload a video from a film which has a copyright, the youtube send me this message:
''Your video is bolcked in some countries due to copyrights and to avoid that try to download a song from youtube library''.
Ahhh, that was refreshing clear and easy to understand. Thanks Ian!

@@iancorzine It's possible that large corporations may pursue some small violators to make an example as a warning to others.

People, this is another very important and VERY informative video! Thanks again for being one of the good guys out there in utubeland! Marking for later reviewing & study by the way loL
EJ!!! Thank you so much for your kind words!! I so appreciate your support.
If a large corporation knowingly makes a false copyright claim on YT, and does it repeatedly, are they not engaged in both criminal and civil fraud?
🤔

I received a COPYRIGHT STRIKE for using popular music in doing some Dance Covers. What should I do?
Hello, I just want to ask if giving credits to the rightful owner of any video content can help us avoid copyright claims?
Thanks.

Good luck. 👊😀🍀
If you speed up or slow down some music, will it still get copyrighted??
RUclips has some powerful algorithms that pick up on EVERYTHING!! You cannot get around them by stretching the audio or altering it somehow. Your best bet to avoid a strike is to get some free music or create original music yourself. Just saying 👊

David Mendel hey Leonardrose_pro on IG fixed up my suspended channel
How do so many RUclips users use copyrighted music in their videos? I see it all the time. Never mind you just answered my question. So basically they get all the ad revenue but you can still use it?
Well, the overall reason is because social media platforms make a lot of money on use of copyrighted content. But in the micro, the content filters often don’t catch the copyrighted material. And, A lot of copyright holders don’t complain about use of their art on RUclips.
This was super helpful. Thank You
Sup OG!!! Thanks for the kind words.
Social media lawyer? Enough said, I subscribed. Lol
Thank you. Please let me know if you ever have any questions. I am here to help creators be successful. 👊😀
I got a claim on music from the RUclips library!! What????
@ Corzine I am new to Tube so please answer this please.
IF those kids
get had credited Bon Jovi were they then OK via attribution ?
I also thought that brevity was considered fair use ? Like a 3 second clip which might represent less than
1/2 of 1% of an entire video ?
Last But Not Least does the copy write owner really need to do a manual search every few days on a video that is getting big views ? A few days of your material on someone elses channel could be tens of thousands of "Theft" views stolen from you. I Mean cant tube come up with software that prevents copy write material from being downloaded from their site ?
How to credit photos from internet, im planning to make history related video
Any chance of making a video that addresses Fair Use rules for content creators that provide lessons on how to play songs on instruments? I've had some success disputing copyright claims, but it would be nice to avoid the headache of getting a claim in the first place. Is there a way to avoid them? I've been putting "fair use" as one of my video tags, but that's just spitting into the wind!
What if I buy my music in Spotify and put it in my youtube video does it help me to not get copyright strike?
Always very interesting :)
Thank you man!! You know I do it just for you!! 😁😁

Thanks so much Guilherme!
Thank You Sir 👍🏼👏🏼✅. Not Cool Jovi, Not Cool 🤔
Wish I had seen this prior to now, good stuff.
Hey Ian, could you talk about the "react" niche of videos on youtube, specifically reactions and commentary of TV/Film/animation?
check his fair use videos one of them explains how commentary videos are considered fair use
Wow! This is a really good point. I need to get down into detail about reaction videos. There is a plan for the video coming out the next few weeks, thank you for the reminder.
Thanks, man. These will definitely help. I’m also going to make some more videos that are very specific on reaction videos.
I got a copyright claim and ifs said heads up. After 3 months the owner removed the video and the gave me a strike.
Which is going to last 3 months
Mobile Freelancer what happened that got you a copyright ?
Awwh man. I hate to hear this. Are you going to go to copyright school so that this strike can drop off your record?
@@iancorzine I did the copyright school and passed still never came off
@@805coastlifeadventures got a strike I messaged the owner still waiting for a reply
Should happen within 90 days after the strike -- when did you get it?
