I've had to put in a bunch of research regarding this exact period (Sengoku Jidai) about a year ago, for a small film production.
And making things short; from what we were able to see, as of yet, this new adaptation of "Shōgun" appears to be the ONLY production I've ever seen, that get's the Sengoku Era as right as possible. Going from textiles, colour-blocking, Kosode-patterns, Hakama- & Kobakama-length, head- and facial-hair ect...
Absolutely looking forward to this !
Edit; And yes, you butchered pretty much every single vocable to unrecognizability, yet your research is very sound and actually gives a decent base for people who would like to research further into the period. Great job :D

This show brought over Japanese "masters" to oversee the dress, gestures, historians...ect. It had a prominent Japanese producer and was shot in BC Canada. The authenticity was a key concern in all aspects.

I got to work as bg for the show as one of the samurai and I have to say wearing the costume was one of my favourite parts of the experience. Also I gotta give props to all the costumers, hair and cosmetics, and people there to ensure authenticity. A dream experience.

I'm too much of a weeb to not twitch every time you butcher the names. Just know that Japanese hardly every contracts sounds as Slavic languages, or to a lesser degree English or German do. It's a very strict consonant vowel pattern.

In the novel Toronaga and Ishido are the only Daimyos in the realms that have uniform colors for their men. Every other lord thought it was a waste of money.

Hi Chaos, the prop master Dean confirmed in my recent livestream that Ishido's faction dress in green but I am not sure about Toronaga.

Thanks Constance! It hasn't been advertised very much. It was held back because of the strikes I think so it was originally supposed to debut in 2023. I hope it gets some attention because the reaction so far has been very positive. Also, Clavell has other books in the saga, so maybe we will see more adaptations.

I do love the video but couldn't help but flinch when you said people's names. Still, I'm looking forward to your coverage of the show!

Looks great!. Japanese aesthetic is deceptively complex under the apparent simplicity. Everyone can make a sketch and make it look Japanese, but getting the details right with their functionality, proportions and overall philosophy is hard. The simplest example would be: is the pattern on the Kimono embroided, patched, or dyed?
Buildings and armour are far more complex. I really love them and it melts my mind thinking about how their architecture influenced our modern architecture and used the great principles to create something abhorrent...
