Shaun one of the things I appreciate about your channel is the fact that you explore all areas of America rather than the same cliche tourist traps Florida, NYC, and California. All those places have incredible things to see to be sure but so does the rest of the country, and nobody has even seen the rest because all they do is go to the same 3 places.

All things Lincoln in Springfield, Illinois. Be sure not to miss the Lincoln museum and New Salem, where Lincoln grew up, and Lincoln's Tomb (it's massive). You can also tour there the Old State Capitol building. There's an old one that was preserved during Lincoln's day but since then they also built a new one which is quite impressive incidentally and worth a visit, but in the old one was where obama announced his candidacy for President. I loathe him in just about every way conceivable, but it's history, and something for you to tour while there. Mall of America in I believe it's Minnesota.

I live in Nashville and have for 30 some years. Lower broad street has really changed over the years. There were always Honky Tonks, but it was much more laid back. Now it’s like non stop Mardi Gras in New Orleans! It’s great if you want to party like that, but if you want to sit back and listen to some music and have a few drinks, there are dozens of much better places to go in the city. I hope you got to visit some of them before you left.❤️🤗🐝

Growing up here, I took this for granted and thought all downtown areas were like Broadway. The only other downtown places I knew were New Orleans and Panama City. Also, party towns. When I first started traveling for work, the girl I went with was also a Nashville native. Our firm would always give us an extra day to explore the cities we went to. We were shocked when we would go to a downtown area to party and nothing existed or not to the level we were used to. We even went to high school on Broadway, so seeing places that weren't like Broadway were a culture shock for us, lol.

There are places right downtown you could get packs of water you just have to search to find them. They are hidden.
For instance, there is a Dollar General near the Arcade (open air shopping mall) downtown...Or in an unassuming building downtown. I would never have known where the Arcade was at if my friend from Nashville hadn't showed me one time.
Most Hotels have bottled water, though. Sometimes the charge, sometimes it's free. You can always ask the front desk. Also the tap water in the links and water fountains (near public bathrooms, ocassionally you might are one just hanging on the side of a building or in a park area) around the city is perfectly safe to drink

Shaun, sadly, you've still not been to a real honkytonk. You have been to country bars, but they're not the same.
Fun fact: back in the day (way back) throughout the South, (and no doubt up North as well), the African American community had their own clubs, usually out in the woods or not far from the outskirts of their town. In most of those clubs, you'd find an upright piano made by the Tonk Piano co. Because of that, the clubs were called Tonks. Honky is a pejorative of the Black community referencing Whites. I'll let you decide what a "HonkyTonk" is and why it's called that. 😊

4:45. White Castle is an INSANELY famous fast food restaurant in the US. It used to be more famous than McDonalds. I'm surprised that you had never heard of it before. White Castle's specialty is small hamburgers (today we call them sliders). Back when I was a kid in the 1970s, people would buy 10 White Castle burgers for $3.00!! The restaurant chain in mostly in the southern US states now. I just did a search and the closest White Castle to me is 176 miles away on Long Island, NY (I am in Massaschusetts).

White castle is great... It isn't Michelin star dinner... It's you've been out drinking and you want something to eat, low cost good filler. Remember to get the dusseldorf mustard. Onion chips and chicken rings 👍

Shaun I’ve always wondered if you got your sign off ( have a good night morning evening or wherever you are in the world), from Art Bell? I listened to him for years. He always signed off that way. Did you listen to him too? It’s nice to hear it again.

It's a shame that the Uber driver said stay away from White Castle. It's the original fast food burger joint. It also invented sliders. Is it the best place around? Nope, but when you come out of bar hopping those little sliders hit the spot. The sliders start at $.72 each. I used to come out of the bars, order 4 of them for $1 back in the day. It's just the experience.

It’s not really known as great burgers, more like a place to go late at night when you have been drinking. Like the Waffle House.

The area you're staying at is more of a locals area, not much for tourists, which is a good thing. It's best to experience a bit of the local life rather than just the tourist cliche places. I lived, worked, and partied in that side of town in my youth.

@Shaun Yes, you went Honky Tonkin'.. It's a real thing, especially in Texas. Next time you come to Texas you need to go to Arkey Blue's and 11th Street Bar and Grill in Bandera and to Luckenbach, TX.
White Castle are nasty burgers. Once you've had Whataburger you won't want any other. And, you have had Whataburger.
Also, come back when you can attend. Mardi Gras in NOLA and/or Fiesta in San Antonio.
