First thing I noticed is the raw recording already sounds good. That’s the number rule of mixing! Get it right at the source and even stock plugins will sound nice on the mix.
I drive a BMW if I wanted to drive a Kia I could.. but the experience is much nicer in my BMW .. do they both drive yes!! That's how I look at plugins of course you can do most of the things needed but once you you see how much faster you can get to where you want to be .. there is no turning back
It makes me laugh thinking about how the most educational and professional music / recording tutorials come from a puppet 😂 but they don't get more helpful than this , clearly this is professional work and it's very generous of you to let us in on this kind of stuff. I've normally been successful with my recordings but I stopped recording for a few years and needed a brush up , thanks for making these videos
@@ReidStefanMusic would be nice to see a video "how to make your mix sound like a master"😁 the decision making involved with moves made in the mixing level etc.

This is just an ad for slate products and guess what? ya sold me bruh lol i only deal with slate because of you. got the mic and all because of you and built this template because of you. instantly re-inspired to write again after hearing my voice thru this chain.
I sold my AKG C414 Xl II for the slate mic and haven’t looked back since. It has the best sound for vocals at that price point. Pair that with a bae 1073 and you’re good to go.
This videos are always so helpful my guy!!! In addition to this I would add the use pf automation on volume, levels and fx to really make it all special and perfect 🔥
I cannot find this song anywhere and she killed it. Love this tutorial because SLATE has been so confusing for me to learn but sounds so good. Can you link the song on spotify???
Really slick process on this! Good job! I'm not into presets usually, but I wondered if your sauce preset would also work well for more rock/ metal music styles. Anyway, great content dude!
I always thought to myself Reid is the number one ventriloquist teaching people on RUclips. Hope you a Karra have a wonderful life together in Vegas. Also when's this banger coming out!?
perfect !!! I am from Brazil ... I followed all the content, but if it is feasible it would be good to try subtitles not only in Portuguese but in other languages very good
I love this video. One thing I'm curious about is how come you are deciding to put the reverb and delay on the channels instead of a Return tracks? I'm curious of your thought process there and what your creative reasoning behind it is, as I tend to go for Sends instead, but hearing how nice it sounds, I should perhaps be implementing such on channels too. :)
Well if you are going to use the effect only on one single source, then it is easier and faster to put it directly on that track. Keeps your session smaller and tidy.
He seemed to use it as a time saver and a cool trick for the viewers to try. Technically its used the same way, just in shortcut form. He kept the dry signal at 100%, and blended in the reverb and delay. Same way a send would work.
Hi Reid! I love watching your videos and I feel like I have learned a lot watching you explain stuff. I'm having issues with my setup and I would of loved to know of there's something I can do to help my problem without going and spend a fortune on new gear.
Do you make videos about making beats in different Genres? Like "How to make a Deep House Beat"? I would be excited if you make a video about making a Electronic/Chillstep or Future Garage beat
Hi Reid! Love your channel! If you’d have to give a rough sketch, how many layers of vocals should be recorded for a commercial song? Like lead/s, lower harmonies, high harmonies etc. thank you
I love your tutorials I’m a fl user and i would love to see a tutorial on how can i keep my vocals not be louder then the beat and the beat not louder then my vocals and when i turn them down they sound lower then they should also when I upload to youtube the sound goes so low you can barely hear everything then
Great tutorial. I'vz just the kiloheartz Plugins, not the complete All Pass, but i have the Waves Complete 14. Could you make please some tutorial with waves, or what equivalent can i use in spite of INFINITE, MO-TT, FG-DS, Thanks
Thanks again for these great insights. If you would have tracked with the VMS, with no hardware, what would your tracking chain look like, your first VMR slot? The Sony mic --> Neve pre emu --> Distressor?
yes both karra's singing, and my voice are recorded thru the Slate ML-1 going thru my analog preamp, EQ, and Compressor. I didn't use any of the Slate mic emulation software in this mix

It seems the vocal is already processed at the begining, it seems it got rid of resonances. You did not apply any surgical EQ but low cut filter. The raw vocal was exteremly clean.

But even you have a good source you should know what you gonna do to make it better and make it sit on the mix too.

Your chain will sound pretty mixed cause your chain is going through compressor analog it’s butter 🧈 - def considering having the hybrid setup
yes Analog gear makes your recordings sound way better, but the starting point is still extremely far from the final mixed results

What are your thoughts on the Slate Academy? Is it worth the sub to get access for a relative newbie or someone who's want to get better at mixing?

hi man
how much should vocal be in leveling?
i always put my beat in -6db
but for vocal , idk
My khs delay is only allowing me to pick time delay and not sync. What time would equal the selection you made?
Did you use any hardware while tracking these vocals?
Yes the same hardware chain I always use, which is a Vintech x73 Preamp + EQ > TubeTech CL1B > Apollo X8... I didn't use any ML-1 "emulation" plugins
